...We have had out Microtek Scanmaker 3600 for well over 5 years now and it is still going strong and doing the job for our entire family. I'm not sure how much we paid for it, but it was not a lot because we just wanted a basic scanner that could scan in documents. It is very reliable, easy to use, with a suitable range of features but has the tendency to be a bit slow occasionally. 1. Looks, Design and Size The scanner is fairly good looking, quite elegant and fairly compact. It measures approximately 17" long, 10" across and 4" high so can fit into most desktop areas. It has a solid build to it and rather funky curve on the lid that gives it some added style. Furthermore, the main surface is flat and you can easily rest your cup of tea, lunch or bits of paper on top! The white colour is easy on the eye and fits in to most rooms...

Cheap and not so cheerful

...Please note: I'm a Mac user so the software issues here are Mac-specific and I'm unable to comment on how the 5900 runs with a PC; however, the hardware issue is machine-non-specific! I bought my first Scanmaker 5900 from GHQ Computers, a reputable store in Britain which specialises in Apple software and hardware. I'd tried several computer superstores locally to no avail. It cost £125 + VAT from GHQ (online) in May 2004. My choice was governed by budget and special requirements, i.e. I needed 4"x5" transparency scanning. Might be bought at Tescos but still the best

...You would never believe that you could buy a brilliant scanner in a supermarket would you. Well I have! If you want a brilliant scanner at a brilliant price then go for Microtek Scanner 3600. I bought this one for £39.99 in Tescos. So I even had points added to our tesco club card! For this price you not only get the scanner but installation software plus Adobd Photo Deluxe, Ulead photo impact 5 and OCR software. Setting it up is pretty straightforward but the installation guide tells you to put the installation CD Rom in and then connect the scanner after the software has been installed. Although this does work you will get a message saying that it cannot of course find the scanner! This could be of putting but just ignore this and carry on. Dell Dimension 2400

Advantages: Monitor, Business, Keyboard, Look.
Disadvantages: Slow, Heavy, Space taker.

...Well the Dell Dimension 2400 I could say is pretty good for business purposes. Dell does let you customize it but its more of a business system. Its not really all that fast, it has two ram slots no agp slot. Which means no video card, which means no high quality good games. How ever I recommend this system for typing, at home jobs, and for searching purposes. Pretty good size monitor but thats about it. Works with windows xp and lower O.S. <Operating Systems> Very good for a started computer and last a long time. Not the best for traveling and taking along with you. Not a bad system though but don't take my word for it try it out see what you think about it. Comes with a cool keyboard and mouse, plus I like the style....

Slim. Sharp. Stylish. The Scanjet 2400.

Advantages: Fast, simple image scanning. Very stylish design. Excellent Price.

AMD Xp2400+ ! !

Advantages: Relatively Cheap and PowerFUL! FOR applications and Games.
Disadvantages: can burn out really quick if your CPU fan plays up.

Review of AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 266FSB

My HP Scanjet 2400 Experience

Advantages: Inexpensive
Disadvantages: Not too user-friendly

...My HP Scanjet 2400 experience began when I inserted the installation CD, this began to run and immediately stopped with a 'Macromedia Projector' error message. I presume 'Macromedia Projector' is software used to momentarily give a flashy display before the installation starts. Overkill that died!!! I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 so my guess is that there was a conflict. So I explored the CD, found the Setup files and ran these to install the software. I think this worked, although I have no idea if I got the full software set. Next I tried to scan a series of A4 (paper size) documents as A4 documents using the HP Director control software. Could I do this? Not without a good deal of manual intervention because after each scan the scanner insisted on removing the margins and I had to manually drag them back into place...
