Reviews of microtek scanner
Best buy, Absolutely
Review of Microtek Scanmaker III by
darkteckno
Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Case colour
...I bought the scanner after Which? made it one of their best buys. According to Which? it has the best scan quality of all the scanners they looked at, despite being one of the cheapest. Sure enough the scan quality is indeed excellent and, although I have not thoroughly explored the software as yet, I have so far been impressed with that also. I would not hesitate to recommend the 3600 to you. This is an Excellent scanner which produces excellent quality print with an Epson stylus 760 printer. I would recomend anyone on a budget to buy this scanner as it does the same as a scanner that costs twice the price....

Microtek ScanMaker 3600
Review of Microtek ScanMaker 3600 by
sbutler1
Advantages: Affordable, solid, good quality and you can rest cups of tea on top!
Disadvantages: Sometimes slow to scan and other scanners do have better quality
...We have had out Microtek Scanmaker 3600 for well over 5 years now and it is still going strong and doing the job for our entire family. I'm not sure how much we paid for it, but it was not a lot because we just wanted a basic scanner that could scan in documents. It is very reliable, easy to use, with a suitable range of features but has the tendency to be a bit slow occasionally.
1. Looks, Design and Size
The scanner is fairly good looking, quite elegant and fairly compact. It measures approximately 17" long, 10" across and 4" high so can fit into most desktop areas. It has a solid build to it and rather funky curve on the lid that gives it some added style. Furthermore, the main surface is flat and you can easily rest your cup of tea, lunch or bits of paper on top! The white colour is easy on the eye and fits in to most rooms quite...

Might be bought at Tescos but still the best
Review of Microtek Scanmaker III by
JAllen194
Advantages: easy to set up, easy to use, and very fast
Disadvantages: see below for this
...You would never believe that you could buy a brilliant scanner in a supermarket would you. Well I have!
If you want a brilliant scanner at a brilliant price then go for Microtek Scanner 3600.
I bought this one for £39.99 in Tescos. So I even had points added to our tesco club card!
For this price you not only get the scanner but installation software plus Adobd Photo Deluxe, Ulead photo impact 5 and OCR software.
Setting it up is pretty straightforward but the installation guide tells you to put the installation CD Rom in and then connect the scanner after the software has been installed.
Although this does work you will get a message saying that it cannot of course find the scanner! This could be of putting but just ignore this and carry on.
Anyway once it is up and running its very simple to use, you can even go into advanced...

Jungle and the FlatBed Scanner
Review of jungle.com by
Alikerry
Advantages: Quick to log on to - instant stock information
Disadvantages: pages are cluttered and cannot print off just the one item
...I have recently come across Jungle for all my hardware supplies. I cannot rate them highly enough. Last week I saw a reccommendation for a flat bed A4 scanner in Windows Made Easy Magazine. As I was already looking for a scanner this article was a great help, it gave fairly all the pros and cons, it reccommended the Microtek 370. I went direct to Jungle they had the item in stock and less than the RRP, not only that they appeared to have identical scanners but different prices, the one at a lower price included a light lid for scanning negatives and slides, and this was something I required. I ordered online at 6.30pm on Tuesday and on Thursday 9.40 am it was being delivered. Now thats what I call service!!
I am at this time looking for a complete system for my father in law who at 71 has decided it is time to keep up with modern...

Windows XP - Make sure you need it
Review of Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Complete package by
P_S_Price
Advantages: Latest Version, Unites NT & Dos based Architectures
Disadvantages: Very unforgiving to older software
...)
Imagine my surprise when I saw RT2 - Platinum edition (runs under XP). Be very sure that you need the features that XP offers you, otherwise you should probably remain with W95,98,ME (or at least have a dual boot machine.
Additionally I had a hell of a job getting my old Microtek scanner to have its drivers recognised. Again Microsoft and Microtek were of little use, and I have had to buy a new scanner .
Check with the Microsoft web site for details on compatibility and make sure your fave software is listed before upgrading....

Good site, very bad service
Review of jungle.com by
digitalburn
Advantages: Good site, good stock range
Disadvantages: Very, very poor delivery rate and customer support
...annoyingly, I didn't hear a word from them about the dispatch being delayed. It just turned up a week late. Oh well, I thought, obviously just a freak, as I had been very pleased with their service before. So let the saga of the scanner commence.
My next purchase from them was a Microtek Scanmaker 8700, a couple of months later. I had to pay for this one by cheque, unlike my previous orders, which were by credit card, and was told that once my cheque had cleared, which would take three working days, the scanner would be dispatched immediately. So taking into account postage time, I would have it in about a week. More than a month later, and I still don't have it, even after several assurances that I'd have it in a few days. So what was going on? I know the cheque cleared fine - no problems.
After a couple of weeks of been given "We do have it...

I haven't had bad experience
Review of Dixons (Shop) by
Steve_pc
Advantages: See, touch and try before you buy
Disadvantages: Some unknowlodgeable staff
...Maybe thats because I don't use retail stores for anything other than browsing. Same goes for PC World. I have only bought a total of 3 things I can remeber from PC World + Dixons. That is GTA, Half-Life., and a scanner. I bought the scanner & Half-Life from Dixons. The scanner was actually very good value, still better value than any mail-order catalouge or computer fair, even today. It was a snip at 49.99. 36-bit colour, Microtek 336cx black scanner, very slim. Produces quality pics. This isn't a scanner review anyway. Dixons were quite useful when selling the scanner, if you know what you want, and they have it in stock, the will want to sell it, obviously. However, for a beginner, things should maybe have been explained, I didn't ask, but then I am very knowledgeable with computers, but if a customer took something home and found he...

New Life to Old Photo's
Review of Microtek FilmScan 2700 by
gizmoregis
Advantages: Cheap as chips
Disadvantages: Family ask you to Scan their old photos too
...Do you have boxes of old 35mm film or slides from before you bought that shiny new digital camea?
This is the perfect gaget for transferring old films onto your PC and it is one of the cheapest that I was able to find.
The FilmScan 2700 can scan 35mm positive and negative film.
Once scanned, images can be saved, printed, shared, enhanced and published.
The accompanying software contains several image adjustment tools allow scans to be fully optimized with maximum image detail and color accuracy.
The unit is able to scan 35mm exposures in slide or strip format with a reasonably high 2700dpi optical resolution.
Each top quality scan is complete in arounf 1 minute 10 seconds. So if you have a lot of images it does take some time, but the scanner does not take a lot of attention and you can watch TV or even write a review on Ciao...

Cheap and not so cheerful
Review of Microtek ScanMaker 5900 by
amason27
Advantages: Spec for price
Disadvantages: Its apparent design fault
...decision to replace it was forced because Mac OSX does not support a driver for the X6.
My first 5900 arrived with the glass smashed to smithereens. This could have happened to any scanner, naturally, in transit. GHQ reimbursed me and I tried a French company, Computerbench. The cost here was 230 Euros all inc.. They delivered very promptly; unfortunately the glass was not stuck to the plastic housing all the way around, meaning that the camera arm complained loudly as it passed over that section and produced a jittery image at that end. After a seemingly-interminable wait, calls (to no avail) to Microtek themselves, and some expense on my part, Computerbench replaced the scanner.
Installation was quite straightforward; the instructions were pretty clear, although - again a Mac problem, though I'm not sure if some Microsoft OS's may...

Good Home Scanner
Review of Acer Prisa 620S by
iharsh
Advantages: Nice design, easy to use, good quality, convenient interface
Disadvantages: Little noisy, price
...This is my first scanner from Acer. I usually worked with UMAX or Microtek, but never with Acer. Let's see.
Complete set consist of the scanner with a slide-adapter, two power supply units, SCSI-adapter on a PCI bus, SCSI-cable, framework for scanning slides and films, manual on fast installation, user's guide, three CD with drivers, software (MiraScan TWAIN-driver 3.20, system of text recognition TextBridge Classic 2.0, utility for copying on the printer Copier 1.2, graphic editor Ulead PhotoExpress 2.0 Special Edition) and electronic manual.
The body of the scanner is executed from a light plastic and is supplied with a small flat cover. On the right on a forward board is present large indicator. From the right party of body there is a switch of a power. The cover is lifted up, is fixed in a vertical position and easily can...
