...programs than you can shake a stick at, and most of them have some optional extras which you can select, such as Turbo (faster, but less economical and uses more water), and Extra drying. The menu system is very easy to use, and there is also a useful 'i' button which elaborates on the program you have chosen (e.g. "for crockery with dried on starchy food" or words to that effect, I'd check but the machine is running at the moment...). Dishes come out very clean as you'd expect, and it is very quiet while running....

G6PD Deficiency - Who Knew?

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Regular Blood Tests, Blood Transfusions and a long list of things to avoid

...Though I'd update this a bit seen as the Genetics department at the John Radcliffe Hospital has finally managed to do a bit more research into both my boys condition. I had never come across this condition before until my eldest son (5) was diagnosed with the condition at birth. He was critically ill at birth and spent the next 10 days in the Special Care Baby Unit, having blood transfusions, and getting a suntan under UV lights. My second child (13 months) was also diagnosed with the same condition at birth, he thank goodness was not as seriously ill as his older brother. I have to add that not every baby born with this condition will react the same way as my children did. I now know people who have not been diagnosed with the condition until they were in their 20's. ***** What is G6PD deficiency? ***** It stands for Glucose-6...

Miele Cleaner

Advantages: Ease of use, Quality, Efficiency
Disadvantages: Initial cost (remember it is designed to last twice as long as other machines)

...A couple of years ago we went on Holiday to Germany and stayed in a self catering appartment on a farm. One of the pieces of equipment in the kitchen was a dishwasher, after 2 weeks using a dishwasher I thought how have we managed before! On return from our holiday one of the first things I did was look at buying a dishwasher. After checking out various different makes I came to the conclusion that the Miele range appart from being one of the most expensive looked as if it was far better put together than the other makes and that it was more enviromentally friendly in use of resorces (electricity, water and detergent). I found a good deal on the Miele G646 and bought it. Setting up the machine was easy, one water inlet hose connected to the cold water mains, outlet hose into the waste drain and the plug into the wall...

Miele S5281: Don't make a Miele of the housework

Advantages: Specialist cleaning, well made and reliable
Disadvantages: None

...on hard floors so I suppose lugging the extra floorhead round with me to swap between rooms is the price I pay for specialised cleaning. I'm not sure what weight the vacuum is but it feels much the same as what I am used to. It has a long cable and the body moves around really easily when you're using the vacuum. There are 6 different suction settings, ranging from minimum which is suitable for light furnishings to maximum which is what I use on the carpets. The laminate floors I use a medium energy-saving, everyday use setting which also happens to be very quiet, such a low-level in fact that you can hold a conversation with the person vacuuming from across the room without shouting. I'm very, very happy with my Miele S5281. You have to take your vacuuming seriously to pay this amount for a vacuum but I think you can really see...

Canon Powershot G6

Advantages: Good quality, easy to use, versatile, gives excellent results, robust
Disadvantages: Mode dial on rear can be easy to accidentally move

...More than enough features for most photographers, fairly compact and easy to use. I've used mine regularly, mainly for work, it's never let me down once and always gives excellent results. When recently photographing a wedding, I had no hesitation in using the G6 as my back-up camera. It's light, and though slightly on the bulky side, it will fit into a pocket, which is more than you can say for a Nikon D2. It's quite well made, the main part of the body being fairly robust aluminium. Mine was put to the test when my wife fell over in New York, breaking her arm. The G6 took a hefty belt on the pavement, and now sports a dent, but on replacing the batteries, it worked perfectly, which is more than can be said for the wife's arm. The only tiny criticism is the location of the mode dial on the rear, which is fairly easy to accidentally...

  My Miele is a pearl of a cleaner

Miele are a German Company who manufacture good quality home appliances and was founded in 1899, they have a UK office and warehouse in Abingdon. The Cleaner. The Red Pearl is a cylinder cleaner and is a lovely Burgundy colour with black and silver highlights and is made of rigid plastic. The measurements are approx. 27cm across, approx. 48cm long including the carry handle and approx. 20cm deep. The machine weighs approx. 18lb (8.5 kilo). It has a silver flexible pipe approx. 170cm long with a metal telescopic pipe 65cm long, 104cm fully extended with a plastic curved rigid pipe of approx. 38cm connecting the flexible and metal pipe together. On the top of the machine is a dial which turns for 6 different settings, the on/off foot switch, the automatic cable rewind...

Miele 1530SC Dishwasher.

Advantages: Very Quiet, very easy to program, load and unload.
Disadvantages: Only Price. But with our last machine lasting 18 years, good value.

...cover every brand of Rinse aid or powder. If you stack the dishes too high and obstruct one of the wash arms - the machine tells you. Our previous Miele Dishwasher (G579) lasted 18 years and the Miele Washing Machine is over 20 so we are hoping for the same longevity from this one....

Miele S712 (pet version)

Advantages: Powerful suction, hygenic and quiet.
Disadvantages: Not widely available.

The Dyson proved to be rather fragile and unreliable and had many repairs over it's life, after the bottom part began to crack we decided it was time for a new vacuum cleaner. Purchase We went to our local Currys store and had a look at a few machines, the initial plan was to get the cheapest Miele cylinder (Miele S380) and use it exclusively for upstairs and then we would get the new Miele upright for downstairs.
