Miele S5281: Don't make a Miele of the housework

...Well, my rubbish old vacuum eventually kicked the bucket so it was time for me to rush out and buy (well, add to my credit card) my beautiful new Miele vacuum having heard rave reviews about them from friends. I checked the which guide and other review sites and found that they were rated very highly which confirmed my choice of make and that just left the model to choose. I decided on the S5281 as it seemed a good, powerful, all-rounder. Then came the hunt to find the best price or deal, having not spent any money for while since having a baby I thought that a purchase of nearly £200 online would guarantee me some good discount, cashback or loyalty points. I found the vacuum for between £195 and £200 in many places and also found it in Argos for £175 - same model number but a slightly different name. I was a bit suspicious so...

Miele S712 (pet version)

Advantages: Powerful suction, hygenic and quiet.
Disadvantages: Not widely available.

...After having a Dyson for nearly eight years, we bought this vacuum cleaner. The reason for this? The Dyson proved to be rather fragile and unreliable and had many repairs over it's life, after the bottom part began to crack we decided it was time for a new vacuum cleaner. I purchased mine to replace a cylinder style cleaner that I use for my static caravan. **The product** The vacuum cleaner is a fairly basic model, it does not come with many attachments, i.e. No pet hair brush, or fragrance pocket for those little air fresheners. The cleaner is fairly quiet running in comparison to my upright cleaner (Dyson) which I use at home. Advantages: Easy to store, stylish, compact and powerful

...Not something that I can really get too excited about, buying vacume cleaners but here goes. There was a simple reason I went and bought the Miele S5210, I subscribe to the Which magazine and it had mentioned the Miele S5210 (recent publication) had consistantly come out as the best over all performer. Being as our upright vacume had died recently I saw no reason why I should doubt this and bought one today. All I can say is that it is miles better than the upright I had before, all the attachments pack away in the vacume which means they will be found when needed (unlike the clip on attachements on our last vacume) Myself and the wife are both 6ft tall but the hose is long enough that we don't need to break our backs bending over and the vacume is light enough to pull around without any effort.   My Miele is a pearl of a cleaner

Review of Miele S5 RED Pearl

Doesn't make a Miele out of hoovering

Advantages: excellent suction, variable power settings, quiet, light, easy to clean
Disadvantages: purchase price is steep

...I really don't rate Dyson hoovers at all having owned two previously and suffering the stress and expense that came with continually changing the filters and constant overheating of the motor. They are not cheap and for the price I kept paying I decided it was time to spend just a fraction more and purchased a Miele S5280 for £180. The main reason I opted for the Miele over a Numatic Henry was because my parents have used Miele hoovers now for years and couldn't recommend one more highly. Designed as more of a drag around hoover instead of the normal upright the entire unit is considerably lighter than most Dyson or Hoover products and has the ability to both adjust the suction power thus reducing the amount of noise produced by the motor so that housework can be done late in the vening and early in the morning without disturbing...

After some initial product screening I decided to concentrate on Miele or a Dyson. I was able to test drive a Dyson DC08 and a Miele S5210 before purchasing. I found the carpet cleaning performance of the Miele to be far superior and it felt as if it had much better all-round pickup. This was true for dust, hair and general carpet fluff! I would say that Hardwood/tile cleaning for both was level pegging. Reliability was also a factor in my decision. ...Forget Dyson and others , this machine works in all areas and was actually designed by engineers for people to clean with. Dyson's noisy rocket machines are sometimes obviously straight from the drawing board to the manufacturing base and are clumsy, noisy, often awkward to use with the clunky wand and flatter to deceive.
