Milan is a great city

Advantages: easy to visit
Disadvantages: busy and chaotic during weekdays

...Milan is well known around the world as a business city but if you walk around you can find a lot of interesting places for sightseeing. First of all the well know place: DUOMO is the main curch in Milan located in a large square. Is a gothic style construction with a lot of pinnacle on its roof. On the topo of the highest pinnacle stand a gold plated statue of Maria, the Jesus Christi mother, that the ??milanesi?? call ??Madonnina?? and has been elected protector of the city. Inside the curch you can see a lot of old paints as well as the treasure consisting in gold tumblers and crosses. This curch was built in 200 years using granite blocks coming from caves located near the Maggiore lake. The blocks arrived in Milan by special boats using the water channels (called Navigli) designed by Leonardo da Vinci. GALLERIA Just...

A budget base for exploring Milan

Advantages: cheaper than many in the area, clean, comfortable, easy access to sights
Disadvantages: bathroom not great, no restaurant

...Named the 10th most expensive city in the world in terms of cost of living (Mercer's Cost of Living Survey, 2008), Milan isn't generally a city you'd associate with budget hotels. However, that was exactly what I was in search of when travelling to the city for a 3-night stay in October 2008. Knowing that a large proportion of my money would be spent on shopping and eating out, I was on the hunt for accommodation that was cheap, central and comfortable. You'l struggle to find anything that fits the bill in the centre of the city - anything in the Duomo (cathedral) or main shopping areas tends to be more pricey, or cheap for a good reason (i.e., incredibly basic). We were happy to look a little further out, and eventually decided to book a twin room at Hotel Teco through laterooms.com. LOCATION Hotel Teco is located on a tiny...

Milan: City Break/ Photographic excursion

Advantages: Clean, safe, elegant, friendly
Disadvantages: None I can think of - perhaps lack of taxis

...My friend and I decided to head off to Milan for a city break as a pretty last minite decision after finding extremely cheap flights with Ryanair. We only had a few days to prepare so an 'itinerary' as such was out of the question. Actually, our reason for making the trip was for my friend to carry out some 'research' for her urban environment project for her art degree course. And I'm a keen photographer, so hoped to get some good snaps. So, all in all, our only agenda was to go there and soak up as much of the Milanese atmosphere as possible in a few days, and then hopefully transfer that experience to a roll of black and white film! So, how did Milan present itself to us? Well, I must say that for me it was one of the few European cities that totally lived up to it's perceived external image. There is glamour round...

Milan, the city I love

Advantages: I love my city
Disadvantages: traffic, climate (too hot and wet in summer)

...I'm an Italian woman, my name is Silvia, I'm 44, and I live in a little town not far from Milan. But I was born in Milan. Many people think Milan is good only for work, fashion and food., but it is really more than these. In Rome or Florence is easier to see historic buldings. In Milan you have to search for them. There are the Castle, where Leonardo da Vinci lived and worked in XV century, the very beautiful Cathedral, with his treasures, but there are a lot of little monuments, churches and historic houses. There are very difficult to find without a guide or someone who knows the city very well. If you want to visit Milan rimember this places! Sant'Ambrogio, one of the most ancient cathedrals of the city, named like the patron saint of my city. La Scala, one of the most important opera theatres in the world (now it is closed...

Milan "No Ashtray" Malpensa

Advantages: Clean, Loads of restaurants, comfy seats
Disadvantages: No where to smoke

...in 2006 (over 31 million with Linate, the second airport of Milan, closer to downtown and over 36 million with Orio al Serio Airport, Milan\'s low cost airport). Malpensa is the top Italian airport in terms of international traffic, while the second busiest after Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in total passengers; it is also the leading freight air gateway to Italy. Malpensa serves a population of over 15 million people. Malpensa has two terminals, T1 for commercial traffic and T2 for charter and low-fares traffic. The T1 has two satellites: A - National and European traffic (Schengen area); B - International traffic (extra Schengen area). The third satellite (C) is under construction and a third runway is going to be built. There is also a dedicated cargo terminal called \"CargoCity\" with over 410,000 tons of yearly traffic...

Milan in the spring

Advantages: Great shopping
Disadvantages: Smog

...Flights for a pound, how could I turn it down? Flying from Birmingham with Flybe to Milan Bergamo Airport was a new experience for me but the journey to Birmingham Airport is just over an hour from home and the parking is so close to the airport that you don't really need to get the courtesy bus. On arrival at Bergamo there is a Bus to main Centro train station just o/s arrivals for just a few euros with a journey time of around 40 mins. The hotel we chose - the Concorde was out of the City Centre but on one of the 3 tube lines and you could in fact walk in approx 20 mins. The hotel was, however, very luxurious and there was a fantastic Gelateria (ice cream shop) a couple of doors down and lots of other shops on the way to the Duomo which made up for the walk. Aside from the tube there area also trams and buses and you can...

Milan and the Lakes

Advantages: Vibrant, cosmopolitan city and stunningly beautiful lakes
Disadvantages: Pricey, dirty and plagued by annoying gypsies

...I went to Milan in early May with my partner. I still don?t really know why I went there, but I suppose I was attracted by the allure of the big city as well as the proximity of the beautiful lakes of northern Italy. I stayed for 7 nights and paid £450 in total for the flight, hotel and transfers to and from the airport. Another £300 or so was spent during the holiday on travel, eating out and entertainment. There is a lot to say, so I have subdivided my comments into suitable headings: HOTEL: The hotel, called ?Delle Nazioni?, was situated within walking distance of the railway station; this was infact one of the reasons why I chose it. Despite being rated three stars, it was a big disappointment; it would have rated no more than two stars in the UK. The room was very small and, although facing the inner courtyard, there was...

Milan - February 2004

Advantages: Good shops, architecture and food!
Disadvantages: Cost and language.

...I only just came back from a couple of days in Milan so thought now was the best time to write with the memories fresh in my head. I had a really good time and would recommend it! I went with my boyfriend from Saturday night until lunchtime Tuesday. So really we only got 2 full days. I would say 4 full days at most is all I could manage. Not that it wasn't good, just there is only so much you can do and see. Lets start with what is said to be Milan's most popular attraction - The Duomo. In all guide books, brochures and word of mouth opinions we had heard we were told that this is the biggest attraction in Milan and a must see. We decided to go on the first day as we arrived there in case it was hard to find - how daft were we. There is a metro stop at Duomo and as you surface from the underground the massive cathedral is...

milan good to visit but not to live there.

Advantages: plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: crowded polluted noisy dirty

...outfit" there- which cost me £100 in English money-17 years ago,and that was just the dress! which I thought was quite enough. Most of the houses in Milan are of course, huge stone floored City Flats-italy is highly populated and there just wouldn't be the room for ground houses. The villas and country side are very pretty. I love the charm of the flat, orange roofed villas with grape vines clinging to the walls and posts. What I love about the banks offices and houses over there, are the luxurious style-and -their size! Huge tall ceilings, vast floor areas impressive mosaics, huge stone coloums... the fountains, and polished marble everywhere!-an architecturist delight! The Romans sure knew how to build, and their influential mark is felt very predominantly, everywhere. As a city,Milan isn't my ideal holiday place,as it is so...

Milan a Great Place to Visit

Advantages: so much to do and see
Disadvantages: not eneough time

...I have just returned from visiting my brother in Milan ,it was my forst trip over there and I really did enjoy it. What a lovely city. It is Italy's Cultural ,Industrial and Financial Centre. The capital of the north of Italy [Lombardia}. Also is one of the main fashion centres in the world and you can see why when you walk down the main shopping areas and see all the Designer Shops. I visited the Catherdral-The Duomo which has more than 2,000 sculptures ,numberless spires and capitals. This is a must to visit when you visit Milan. Theopportunity to go up to the roof where you will see the amazing view of the city, that is breathetaking well worth it. One of the largest churches in the world and even though the Catherdral is very large there is a elegant feel to the building. They started to build it in 1386 by Gian Galeazzo Viscanti...
