milan good to visit but not to live there.
Advantages: plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: crowded polluted noisy dirty
...In 1984 I decided to see a bit of italy and get a job nannying out there. I ended up working for a lovely milanese family with 4 children, ranging from 4 mths,to 9yrs. who lived in a street called Via Lazorrotti.By summer we visited the mother of my boss-the countess of naples,no less, for the obligatory 6 week summer holidays!(That was fascinating, and would take another op just to describe her extensive villa, dungeon jewels/artefacts and her lovely ordinary friendly nature.)
If you have ever been to Milan, then you would know how busy, lively, crowded and noisy it is.I find it similar to London,smog-wise,and in summer the temperatures soar into the hundreds, and it is very, very humid.(not my favourite summer time place!)
I used to soak myself in the little half tubs they use out there at least three times a day because of perspiration...

Milan in the spring
Advantages: Great shopping
Disadvantages: Smog
...Flights for a pound, how could I turn it down? Flying from Birmingham with Flybe to Milan Bergamo Airport was a new experience for me but the journey to Birmingham Airport is just over an hour from home and the parking is so close to the airport that you don't really need to get the courtesy bus.
On arrival at Bergamo there is a Bus to main Centro train station just o/s arrivals for just a few euros with a journey time of around 40 mins.
The hotel we chose - the Concorde was out of the City Centre but on one of the 3 tube lines and you could in fact walk in approx 20 mins. The hotel was, however, very luxurious and there was a fantastic Gelateria (ice cream shop) a couple of doors down and lots of other shops on the way to the Duomo which made up for the walk.
Aside from the tube there area also trams and buses and you can...

Milan - February 2004
Advantages: Good shops, architecture and food!
Disadvantages: Cost and language.
...I only just came back from a couple of days in Milan so thought now was the best time to write with the memories fresh in my head. I had a really good time and would recommend it!
I went with my boyfriend from Saturday night until lunchtime Tuesday. So really we only got 2 full days. I would say 4 full days at most is all I could manage.
Not that it wasn't good, just there is only so much you can do and see.
Lets start with what is said to be Milan's most popular attraction - The Duomo.
In all guide books, brochures and word of mouth opinions we had heard we were told that this is the biggest attraction in Milan and a must see.
We decided to go on the first day as we arrived there in case it was hard to find - how daft were we.
There is a metro stop at Duomo and as you surface from the underground the massive cathedral is...

Milan and the Lakes
Advantages: Vibrant, cosmopolitan city and stunningly beautiful lakes
Disadvantages: Pricey, dirty and plagued by annoying gypsies
...that public toilets in Italian cities are virtually non-existent.
The Galleria houses a series of bookshops and also various smart cafes and restaurants, the one exception being a branch of Macdonald?s. I would avoid the smart restaurants but I did sitting outside a café with a cappuccino and an ice cream just relaxing and watching the world go by.
The other main shopping areas are Via Torino and Via Dante, which come off the main city square. The shops here are generally more ?normal? than the ones on the smart streets near the cathedral. The best priced clothes shop is ?Standa?, which is the equivalent of our own M&S, but is probably more closely related in style to the now defunct C&A.
It isn?t easy to find restaurants in central Milan. The few that are there are either very posh or very ordinary ?self service? types...

Milan is a great city
Advantages: easy to visit
Disadvantages: busy and chaotic during weekdays
...Milan is well known around the world as a business city but if you walk around you can find a lot of interesting places for sightseeing.
First of all the well know place:
DUOMO is the main curch in Milan located in a large square. Is a gothic style construction with a lot of pinnacle on its roof. On the topo of the highest pinnacle stand a gold plated statue of Maria, the Jesus Christi mother, that the ??milanesi?? call ??Madonnina?? and has been elected protector of the city.
Inside the curch you can see a lot of old paints as well as the treasure consisting in gold tumblers and crosses.
This curch was built in 200 years using granite blocks coming from caves located near the Maggiore lake.
The blocks arrived in Milan by special boats using the water channels (called Navigli) designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

Milan a Great Place to Visit
Advantages: so much to do and see
Disadvantages: not eneough time
...I have just returned from visiting my brother in Milan ,it was my forst trip over there and I really did enjoy it. What a lovely city. It is Italy's Cultural ,Industrial and Financial Centre. The capital of the north of Italy [Lombardia}. Also is one of the main fashion centres in the world and you can see why when you walk down the main shopping areas and see all the Designer Shops.
I visited the Catherdral-The Duomo which has more than 2,000 sculptures ,numberless spires and capitals. This is a must to visit when you visit Milan. Theopportunity to go up to the roof where you will see the amazing view of the city, that is breathetaking well worth it. One of the largest churches in the world and even though the Catherdral is very large there is a elegant feel to the building. They started to build it in 1386 by Gian Galeazzo Viscanti...

Milan: City Break/ Photographic excursion
Advantages: Clean, safe, elegant, friendly
Disadvantages: None I can think of - perhaps lack of taxis
...too) is you can fill your face with food without actually spending a euro....almost.
Let me explain...
In certain wine bars (and we're talking reasonably classy places, not utter dives) if you buy a drink you can help yourself to a free buffet of typical Italian fare - pizza slices, cold pasta salads etc. This is great if you are travelling on a budget.
Another aspect of Milan which struck a positive chord was the general feeling of personal safety in the city. My friend and I had the misfortune to get seperated from one another on a night out, and had to navigate our seperate ways about 3 miles back across town. Although it was 2pm in the morning, neither one of us was approached or made to feel vulnerable in any way - even though we passed many groups of young revellers and even a few down & outs (of which there seems to be...

A budget base for exploring Milan
Advantages: cheaper than many in the area, clean, comfortable, easy access to sights
Disadvantages: bathroom not great, no restaurant
...Named the 10th most expensive city in the world in terms of cost of living (Mercer's Cost of Living Survey, 2008), Milan isn't generally a city you'd associate with budget hotels. However, that was exactly what I was in search of when travelling to the city for a 3-night stay in October 2008. Knowing that a large proportion of my money would be spent on shopping and eating out, I was on the hunt for accommodation that was cheap, central and comfortable.
You'l struggle to find anything that fits the bill in the centre of the city - anything in the Duomo (cathedral) or main shopping areas tends to be more pricey, or cheap for a good reason (i.e., incredibly basic). We were happy to look a little further out, and eventually decided to book a twin room at Hotel Teco through laterooms.com.

HERE IS... MY MILAN
Advantages: Beatiful town
Disadvantages: Nothing... I hope!!! ^___^
...Hi! I’m Tizi and I live in Milan.
Yes, I’m Italian girl and I would like to speak about my Milan... so I can help you to know better this town, so beautiful and so difficult.
Maybe you arrive in Italy by airport… or Linate, or Malpensa…
If you arrive from Linate you buy a map at newspaper kiosk, and take a taxi only to arrive at Milan city, because it’s too much expensive.
If you arrive from Malpensa there a little train and with this one you arrive in Milano only with approximately 4.5 £.
So in Milan there’s a very good service by bus, tram (particular bus on rails)
To see the most beautiful places, you can buy a ticket to go to every public transport. In fact with 2.20 euro (about 1 pound and 30 pence) you have a ticket for all day long. Instead with simple ticket you can use...

Milan - mixed feelings
Advantages: Shopping, nightlife, public transport.
Disadvantages: Expense, driving, pollution.
...I spent 3 months living as a student in Milan and, to be honest, I didn't like it. I found it dirty, ugly, unfriendly and oppressive, and expensive to boot. This did at least give me the motivation to seek out the best places to drown my sorrows, and I will be sharing some of that knowledge later. I've since returned though, and have learned to appreciate some of the good things this sprawling city has to offer.
Milan is an industrial city in the North of Italy, easily accessible by Malpensa Airport and then a short bus ride. It is also well connected to the rest of Italy and the countries to the north by train, and so however you arrive you will probably wind up at the stazione centrale. It's worth looking at this building, which is an incredible example of the fascist/futurist architecture favoured by Mussolini. Keep a tight hold...
