A budget base for exploring Milan

Advantages: cheaper than many in the area, clean, comfortable, easy access to sights
Disadvantages: bathroom not great, no restaurant

....00 Triple room: ? 450.00 Junior Suite ? 600.00 (prices may vary - this was posted in November 2008 - check website at http://www.hotelteco.it/prenota.asp for the most up-to-date rates) OVERALL VERDICT At 80 Euros per night, including breakfast, I was very happy with this hotel. It was clean and comfortable, in a safe location, and within easy travelling distance of the main sights of Milan. If you're looking for a cheap and relatively basic hotel as a base for your city break, then you could do far worse than the Teco. A Day In Capri Italy

Advantages: Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: not enough time

...paying Ciao pronounced Chow Hello Arriverderci Aree'veh'dair'chee Goodbye This got a laugh and two very large glasses of chilled white wine (dry and refreshing). The waiter also brought a large bowl of black olives, a bowl of green olives and a bowl of small salted biscuit's (a bit like pretzels) . This cost about £12.00 and even though its pricey it was worth it. We sat for half an hour and relaxed. Capri's little Piazzetta is one of the best known squares in Italy and is a great place to sit and relax and do a bit of people watching. ~ Parco Augosto-The Gardens Of the Emperor Augustus ~ The garden's of the Emperor...

Milan "No Ashtray" Malpensa

Advantages: Clean, Loads of restaurants, comfy seats
Disadvantages: No where to smoke

...in 2006 (over 31 million with Linate, the second airport of Milan, closer to downtown and over 36 million with Orio al Serio Airport, Milan\'s low cost airport). Malpensa is the top Italian airport in terms of international traffic, while the second busiest after Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in total passengers; it is also the leading freight air gateway to Italy. Malpensa serves a population of over 15 million people. Malpensa has two terminals, T1 for commercial traffic and T2 for charter and low-fares traffic. The T1 has two satellites: A - National and European traffic (Schengen area); B - International traffic (extra Schengen area). The third satellite (C) is under construction and a third runway is going to be built. There is also a dedicated cargo terminal called \"CargoCity\" with over 410,000 tons of yearly traffic...

Milan and the Lakes

Advantages: Vibrant, cosmopolitan city and stunningly beautiful lakes
Disadvantages: Pricey, dirty and plagued by annoying gypsies

...I went to Milan in early May with my partner. I still don?t really know why I went there, but I suppose I was attracted by the allure of the big city as well as the proximity of the beautiful lakes of northern Italy. I stayed for 7 nights and paid £450 in total for the flight, hotel and transfers to and from the airport. Another £300 or so was spent during the holiday on travel, eating out and entertainment. There is a lot to say, so I have subdivided my comments into suitable headings: HOTEL: The hotel, called ?Delle Nazioni?, was situated within walking distance of the railway station; this was infact one of the reasons why I chose it. Despite being rated three stars, it was a big disappointment; it would have rated no more than two stars in the UK. The room was very small and, although facing the inner courtyard, there was...

Milan - February 2004

Advantages: Good shops, architecture and food!
Disadvantages: Cost and language.

.... There are Macdonald's everywhere! I had to try the real italian version of my favourite dish ever - Spaghetti Carbonara, bu was disappointed to find the pasta quite hard and stodgy. I thought maybe it was a crappy restaurant but a few people I've spoke to said it was all over Italy like that. There are quite a few chinese restaurants that I heard were nice thought we didn't visit any. One restaurant we did go to was Ajoblanco. It was very nice and served traditional spanish dihes and tapas. It was reasonably priced and the setting was lovely. Would definitely recommend the paella. Well that's about it. I would say couples and sightseeing lovers, or very rich shoppers are the people who would appreciate Milan most. I don't think children would be that interested as there isn't that much for them to do! We got a bargain...

Milan in the spring

Advantages: Great shopping
Disadvantages: Smog

...Flights for a pound, how could I turn it down? Flying from Birmingham with Flybe to Milan Bergamo Airport was a new experience for me but the journey to Birmingham Airport is just over an hour from home and the parking is so close to the airport that you don't really need to get the courtesy bus. On arrival at Bergamo there is a Bus to main Centro train station just o/s arrivals for just a few euros with a journey time of around 40 mins. The hotel we chose - the Concorde was out of the City Centre but on one of the 3 tube lines and you could in fact walk in approx 20 mins. The hotel was, however, very luxurious and there was a fantastic Gelateria (ice cream shop) a couple of doors down and lots of other shops on the way to the Duomo which made up for the walk. Aside from the tube there area also trams and buses and you can...

milan good to visit but not to live there.

Advantages: plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: crowded polluted noisy dirty

...In 1984 I decided to see a bit of italy and get a job nannying out there. I ended up working for a lovely milanese family with 4 children, ranging from 4 mths,to 9yrs. who lived in a street called Via Lazorrotti.By summer we visited the mother of my boss-the countess of naples,no less, for the obligatory 6 week summer holidays!(That was fascinating, and would take another op just to describe her extensive villa, dungeon jewels/artefacts and her lovely ordinary friendly nature.) If you have ever been to Milan, then you would know how busy, lively, crowded and noisy it is.I find it similar to London,smog-wise,and in summer the temperatures soar into the hundreds, and it is very, very humid.(not my favourite summer time place!) I used to soak myself in the little half tubs they use out there at least three times a day because of perspiration...

Little Italy, Big Disappointment

Advantages: Dancing is fun
Disadvantages: Dinner overpriced and bland, expensive

...I went to Little Italy a few months ago with my girlfriend and have mixed feelings about the place. Situated on Soho's Frith Street it is the heart of a really buzzy and lively area of London. An area in which you are spoilt for choice for dining, especially with Italian restaurants, you have to be doing something right to survive. Little Italy is a restaurant, bar and club. In the latter two it succeeds, in the former, not so. As a restaurant, the first thing you'll notice is the abundance of staff waiting to wait on you but somehow unwilling to do so or be helpful. Then there is the food itself, which is grotesquely overpriced at about £30 per head excluding drinks. The bruchetta was like oiled cardboard and our main meat dish favouring better but still fairly bland. So much so I can't even remember what meat it was, probably beef...

Diamond review  Italy For Beginners

Advantages: it´s nice
Disadvantages: none

...So you´re thinking of travelling to Italy and getting to know the country? If you like shock treatment, fly straight to the South, to Naples or Palermo, and throw yourself into the street life there, if you prefer things to move more slowly, though, it may be a good idea to start exploring the country from the town of Trento, 140 km south of the Austrian/Italian border. It is the first ´real´ Italian town, the area north of it, South Tyrol, is more Austrian due to its history, it only became part of Italy after WW 1. Many people there are bilingual, if they want to become civil servants, they must know Italian and German. The valley of the river Adige on whose banks Trento is situated has been inhabited since prehistoric times it having been one of the main branches of the amber route. The Romans built streets there (The Romans...

The Gate to Italy

Advantages: nice scenery & architecture, fine cuisine, great shops, very relaxing place
Disadvantages: nothing REALLY spectacular in a country full of attractions

...Just a few miles south of the Swiss border, Como is the first town in Italy. Very different in style and culture to Italy's thriving cities, Mediterranean holiday resorts and antique sights, Como exudes the mild charm of Lombardy region. I was a bit surprised myself when I realised that I hadn't written anything yet on Ciao about one of my favourite countries, Italy. So when famous Ciaoer ConnaisseurHaggler said she was going to nearby Milano two weeks ago, I decided it was time I introduced the northern Italian region of Lombardy, and its pearl, Como. Como is two things in one - the city of Como, and the Lago di Como (lake). It is not really a holiday destination for itself, but a place which you shouldn't miss when you are nearby. 1) Como is ideal for a day trip or weekend getaway from Milan, if you want to escape hectic...
