Marvelous Millie's!
Review of Millies Cookies by
SweetTooth93
Advantages: Wide variety, lots of stores, friendly staff, the occasional free tester, scrumptious products, fairly cheap
Disadvantages: Some things can be expensive, nutritional information
...I've never been a huge fan of cookies, or muffins for that matter. If it was a choice between a big cookie, or a simple bar of chocolate, i'd have, without a doubt chosen the chocolate!
However, over the past week or two my love for cookies has been put to the taste, and although i'm still not a huge fan, they're certainly growing on me! As my previous few reviews have stated, over the past short period of time, we've had family over from across the globe, and throughout there stay we had often found ourself in Edinburgh. Nine times out of ten, we'd end up going for a meal, or a bite of lunch. However aswell as lunch or dinner on our visits, we also became quite partial to a trip to Millie's Cookies!
**
What is Millie's Cookies?
I have often passed Millie's Cookies shops and stalls in the past, but never actually enquired what...

Mack 'n' Millie
Review of Thoroughly Modern Millie by
kirstymack80
Advantages: happy musical, good night out
Disadvantages: pricey but worth it!
...Well here is a fact for you. The Mack likes the theatre. In fact she loves it. As she hadn’t attended a show since the summer, as a treat to herself she thought she’d book to see one of the new musicals in town, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’.
* Booking *
As I’m fortunate (or unfortunate, depends how you look at it!) to work in London, I went along to the box office at the Shaftesbury theatre to book my tickets.
We were 3 rows from the front, as recommended by the lady in the theatre, as right at the front was a little ‘too’ close, according to her. The stage is raised and we’d be craning our necks.
At £40 per ticket, this wasn’t cheap, but heck, it was December, and this was our treat!
Tickets do come cheaper – Grand Circle are £27.50 and £20 and Stalls and Royal Circle are £40 and £35. Group bookings and concessions...

Ruby & Millie Nail Varnish
Review of Ruby & Millie Nail Polish by
natalie.d.gibson
Advantages: Vibrant colours, great packaging
Disadvantages: Chips if only wear one coat
...I have purchased many Ruby and Millie products previously such as lipstick and eyeshadow but in my mind the nail varnish is by far my favourite.
Ruby and Millie is a range developed by Ruby Hammer and Millie Kendall and is exclusive to Boots.
The range is very modern and this is reflected in the packaging which involves clear plastic so that the contents can be seen, and mirrored silver, all bearing the brand name.
Boots Fashion Brands (which includes Ruby and Millie, Karen Millen, Urban Decay etc) frequently has special offers on such as '3 for 2' or '500 advantage card point when you purchase two products' so this makes it more affordable.
The nail polish costs £8-50 which is not bad considering it is quite an upmarket trendy brand, however I wouldn't describe it as a premium cosmetic brand.
I chose two nail polishes...

Ruby & Millie - The Best Yet
Review of Ruby & Millie Mascara by
natz_welch
Advantages: Lasts, does not clump, great coverage
Disadvantages: Pricey, hard to find on the high street
...Not being a typical girly girl make up is something I do not like to pay out on, however Ruby & Millie have seemed to have converted me in the realm of mascara.
I am on an constant search for a mascara with the following components:
1. It covers and thickens the five lashes that I have making them look like I have more than I do
2. It does not clump
3. My eyes do not run for the rest of the day
4. It does not run out or dry up after 2 weeks
5. Does not cost a arm and a leg
And after years of using number 17 until they changed all their products I was a bit dubious to paying out and went through a numerous number of high street brands each one disappointing me more than the last!
Then low and behold one Christmas a couple of years ago I received a Ruby & Millie gift set for the eyes containing their purple/black mascara...

Ruby and Millie lipgloss
Review of Ruby & Millie Lipstick by
rockchickange
Advantages: Stylish packaging, nice shades and a nice treat
Disadvantages: Expensive!
...Ruby and Millie lipgloss has always been out of reach for me. One of those products that you see in magazines and wish that you could own but know there's no way you can afford to spend £13 on a luxury like a lipgloss.
Then one day I decided to blow some money and bought one.
Some of the shades are scarily vivid - I went for number 15 as it's a bit shimmery and has a bit of colour but isn't too bright.
To use it you twist the bottom and the gloss oozes onto the brush. The first time I used it I wasted quite a bit by accident as it doesn't come out straight away on first use. After that though just a couple of twists is enough.
It glides onto your lips and gives them a really shiny glossy look with less of a sticky feeling than many other glosses I've tried. However, as with every lipgloss there is an element of sticky...

Ruby and Millie compact powder
Review of Ruby and Millie - Compact Powder by
vivwoods
Advantages: Looks stylish
Disadvantages: Can be a bit expensive
...I really like all of the Ruby and Millie range even though it is quite expensive.
I began using the range last year and have done ever since.
The compact powder is in quite a nice size silver compact, though upon opening you will find the size of the powder is a fair bit smaller. In it there is a small thin puff which is only usable on one side, and there is a mirror too....which i find handy for touchups. It also comes with a black tiestring bag which i found useful to put my bits of makeup in ,then in my bag...as you always lose something in your bag when you just throw them all in loose.
I find the colour good...i currently use compact powder colour 3,which is suitable for me.I think it lasts ok too,i maybe touch up later in the day...but i did with others i have tried.
I have found it better applying it with a face powder brush...

Ruby and Millie lipstick
Review of Ruby & Millie Lipstick by
shanee
Advantages: moisturising, long lasting, chic
Disadvantages: only available at Boots
...I was first given a Ruby and Millie lipstick as a present. I had never used it before and now I think it is the second best brand in the world (MAC will always be my favourite). It is incredibly moisturising and at the same time long lasting, reasonably priced (£10) and comes in a really cool long silver tube. The range of colours and textures is fantastic and I like that they have colours to suit all skin tones. The range was made up by a couple of make up artists and so they really know what they're doing. The only drawback is that I can only seem to find it in large Boots stores. I think this range of lipsticks is suitable for anyone....

Totally Up-To-Date Tilly
Review of Thoroughly Modern Millie by
Critchyboy
Advantages: Totally and utterly entertaining!
Disadvantages: Prices for the seats at the back!
...“OK – baby is arriving in July, let’s make a list of the things we’d like to do together before I get too huge and round to do them and just go out and do it!” said my wife to me at the beginning of the year.
“Sure, what’s first on the list?” I replied.
“Go to New York and do that…actually no. If we go there we need to save up and do it properly and there’s no time for that.”
“Fine – no New York then. Anything else?” I enquired.
“I would love to go to see Amanda Holden in Thoroughly Modern Millie in the West End.”
“OK. That’s settled then – anything else?”
“Nope. I think that’ll do for now, that’s probably quite enough for you to be getting on with!”
She’s getting more fanatical than me – I’m actually really rather worried…

SEX, HILLTOPS AND GORILLA-GRAMS
Review of Millie's Fling - Jill Mansell by
nicci13
Advantages: Very good sense of humour
Disadvantages: It ended!
...If you are after a light hearted, quite predictable read, but also a read where you are still tempted to turn to that back page just to check that it is going to turn out the way you suspect, then this could well be the book for you! It even has that essential dose of sex included - yes, thought that would get your attention!
We meet Millie, our heroine, on a hill top where her boyfriend is asking her a very important question – will she let him move in with her as he is about to be kicked out of his flat and has nowhere else to go?
Our heroine doesn’t tell him where to go (although the reader may feel that she should have done exactly that, or is that just me), but instead goes off to talk to a woman who is quite obviously very distressed, meaning that Millie puts 2 and 2 together and makes 4 and a half, believing...

My girl Millie
Review of Family Poems by
dizzymonkey
Advantages: ? a little rhyme to amuse my daughter
Disadvantages: not very good!!!!
...It may not be a work of literacy art however it was intended for a very special person in my life who unlike you lot is highly unlikely to criticise, bear in mind that the intended audience was a one year old little girl who loves me and please be gentle with your more than likely harsh words of criticism!
My girl Millie can touch her toes,
My girl Millie can point to her nose,
Can you?
My girl Millie loves to sing and dance and laugh,
she loves to chat and play and bath,
Do you?
My girl Millie can brush her hair,
My girl Millie can share,
Can you?
My girl Millie can pat her head and rub her tummy,
My girl Millie can hug her mummy,
Can you?
My girl Millie can smile at daddy,
My girl Millie can kiss her teddy,
Can you?
I know the rhyming isn't perfect and there is no real structure but remember intended...
