Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...?Inside I?m Dancing? is the latest film from Damien O?Donnell, the director of ?East is East?. I saw it two nights ago at my university arts centre and must admit that it is the best film I have seen for some time. This film has bene out for a while, so it is probably now available for rental on video/DVD I would imagine. The storyline is thus: Michael Connelly (Steven Robertson) is a 24-year old resident of Carrigmore Residential Home for the Disabled who suffers from cerebral palsy. Irish pub???

Advantages: Busy and cheerful

...O'Sheas is a mock Irish pub near Canal Street which boasts a very crowded bar most nights. The decor is straight from a traditional Irish pub (supposedly), with wooden floors, beer barrels and cutsie signs (usually 'old' Guiness ones!), while the whole aspect of the pub is gloomy. However, rather than put you off, it means secluded little corners and it doesn't hurt your eyes after one too many the night before! The staff are friendly (but not Irish and don't even try for bad fake accents :-)) and helpful, and there is quite an extensive range of food available (although not great). The beer is reasonably cheap, although sometimes they charge at night for entrance (bit poor for a pub!). Probably better to visit at night rather than during the day!...

...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. With Blockbuster?s things are different slightly ? which add a great deal of benefit to us the customer. Neighborhood bar, nice watering hole

Advantages: Great neighborhood bar, excellent food, tons of sports on TV, friendly bar staff

...San Francisco is one of those cities that has so many bars, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. Pat O'Shea's is definitely one that stands out in the minds of its loyal patrons. O'Shea's is a a mixture of several different environments. One of the biggest clientele that O'Shea's draws from is students from the University of San Francisco. They're good kids for the most part, but you definitely have to be ready for a college party environment, generally on Thursday nights and occasionally on the weekend if something big is happening at the Univ. On weeknights there's tons of sports on the tube, all 20 sets that they have. The owners of the bar are huge SF Giants fans, so there's a lot of baseball on during the season. They also have several bus trips to games that you can get tickets for. In the fall, football takes precedence...

...Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs. I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player. In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place. The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was so I could play divx format DVDs on it. The DVD player in a ps2 doesn’t recognise this format and scene as I have several divx movies already on disk and on my laptop to put onto disk then I wanted a DVD player that would recognise and play this format. Another plus to this format is that it saves space on disks as it compresses movies into smaller file sizes without compromising...

DVDs for a fixed monthly fee...

Advantages: Simple, easy to use, quick delivery, good customer service
Disadvantages: May not have all the titles you are after

...I was using one of those sites that offer you points or a few cents for trying out free offers (don't recall which one exactly, may have been 'IPoints'...) and it had Lovefilm's FREE two week trial. I signed up free for the minimal membership which allows you to keep one DVD at a time for as long as you want (with no late fees!) and although I had to give my credit card information, the agreement states that you will not be charged anything if you cancel within the two week period.. The membership ranges from £9 to £15 per month now; I do not recall how much it cost mid last year to be honest.. The other memberships get you 2 and 3 DVDs at a go. I added the films I was interested in to some sort of 'wishlist'. The idea is that they send you one DVD, you keep it for as long as you want, then they send you the next one on your list...
