...What Is It? The Ministry of Sound 'Anthems 1991- 2008' is a CD set which is a mixture of the best dance songs, mixed by the Ministry of Sound, over the last 17 years. This is a 3 CD box set which contains 63 famous dance anthems of the last 2 decades. Why Buy It I bought this as I have always been a huge fan of the Ministry of Sound. I am not old enough to have heard the stuff before around 2000 as I only got into dance music in the last 5 years and am only 15 so it adds up. Anyway I had heard a lot of the material on this CD on the radio and really enjoyed it, but I wanted now to be able to listen to it in the space of my own home on my i-pod of CD player. Advantages: Mind-blowingly heavy (if you like that)
Disadvantages: Some very dodgy early albums

...It's probably best to summarise this band before going into the detail- Ministry are a heavily influential industrial-dance-metal band (or one man- Al Jourgensen- with various musicians). Combining hoarse, venomous vocals with pounding drums, atmospheric loops and feedback and huge, often fast guitar riffs, this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the band has an interesting history which I'm sure most of you will find interesting. Visually, Ministry are far more interesting than most industrial bands, who tend to be shadowy people working behind their walls of sound with rarely any acknowledgement of the audience. Al Jourgensen's almost Mad Max-like biker-cowboy-outlaw look (which reminded many of Carl McCoy of Fields of the Nephilim) certainly sets them apart when they play live. Advantages: Easy to see at night, SD/MMC card Slot, USB input.
Disadvantages: No AUX in, minor but no twisty dial.

...The MOSCA089 is the perfect in care stereo for those who are bored of the old CDs...with a SD/MMC card slot and USB input it truly makes listening to your whole music library much easier. Though the wattage isn't top of the range, it is still excellent (4x40W) and the sound quality is superb, as long as the song you have is recorded in good condition. First up, the CD player, excellent, press a button and the panel folds down to reveal the CD slot, but wait, wont this stop play whilst i change CD...NO! the player keeps playing even when folded. Very neat! The quality of the CD player is stunnign as long as your speakers can handle the base this thing puts out. Next, the SD/MMC card slot....my preferred method. ...After reading everyone else's opinions on the Ministry and finding that they mostly didn't find it too pleasing I thought that I better stand up for it and give my experience of it. I've only ever been once but it was a great night and a great weekend. So, if you're sitting comfortably then I'll begin... The whole reason that I got to go the Ministry was because one of my mates had entered into a DJ competition and got through to the finals that were to be held, yes you've guessed it, at the Ministry itself. And, because he didn't have a girlfriend at the time, he invited me to accompany him. This meant that I would get a free hotel room for the night and free entry to the club, obviously this sounded too good to be true and I jumped at the chance. ...that are mentioned. As for articles in the magazine. Well they are deeply uninteresting, often badly written and just add to the poor quality of the magazine. What shocks me most is that this comes from the Ministry Of Sound. Arguably one of the best clubs in the world, offering some of the best dj's ever to step foot on this planet. If they actually put some effort into making a magazine, it could potentially be extremely good, but obviously to me they have just boosted out monthly magazines of no value what so ever to make a quick buck or two. The magazine supposedly the voice of the club certainly has tainted my opinion of the venue, and it's operators. Overall, a lot of work needs to be done to improve what could potentially be an excellent dance music magazine. I hope Ministry do quickly because at the moment there not doing much for the image... ...I would just like to say that Ministry of Sound have pulled out of Birmingham and have left their former, rather inadequate venue as simply The Bar. The venue lacks atmosphere and is over designed, drinks are expensive and it's not really worth the visit. It sort of lies half way between a club and a bar and doesn't really know what it wants to be. There are far better bars to go to on Broad street, where it is located, and all the clubbers go to real club venues (sanctuary or code) Stear clear of "the bar" is probably the best advice i could give you... However, the crowd in general seem undemanding and uncultured as clubbers, consisting a large part of tourists who have heard that the Ministry is the premier club in London. The night that I went to were the Logical Progression sessions and I was not impressed. And by the way, the doormen wouldn't let me take my contact lens fluid in with me (I got it back later),one of my lenses dried up and inflamed my eye. It was not very nice, cheers Misery of Sound.... ...OK, before I start getting seriously stuck into dissing the Ministry, I just want to clarify two things. For one thing, the ministry is just a venue so it's perfectly possible that there are some decent nights there, for another I wasn't at the record launch party that the opinionator went to - so,who knows, maybe it was good. However, I can speak from personal experience as to what shak is like and, in fact, what the Ministry is like in general and -to be brutally honest - it really and truelly sucks. The design is so bad that there doesn't seeem to be any one point in the club where people actually stop to do anything interesting like talk or dance. Instead everyone just wanders around the club aimlessly looking for a half decent place to hang out. It might actually be that people are so shocked that the venue doesn't live up to it... Advantages: Brutal and Presedent Baiting

...Ministry are back and they are well hacked off. Who are they hacked off at well none other than a US president. W can now add inspiring a Ministry album to his list of achievements, I am personally very jealous of him on this front. Since their last release in 2003 they have completed a world tour, and lost long serving Bass Player Paul Barker. The split was amicable as Paul’s reasons for leaving were that he needed to spend more time with his family and that he felt that was not learning anything new. Front man Al Jorgensen has wished him well etc etc, but now seems to be getting rather sick about being asked about his former partner in crimes departure “He was an employee, I hired him” is one recent quote. (Note: to all music journalists don’t ask the same bloody questions over and over again it just annoys the artist. This goes... Read review

...I have been buying various dance music magazines over the past few years and have had mixed success with them. I haven't purchased Ministry for a few months now after it went rather downhill while increasing in price. However last week I noticed it had a rather good mix CD on the cover so thought I would give it another chance. I'm glad I did too. I've read a couple of other opinions on this site writing the magazine off, but I would encourage those people to retry Ministry. The cover CD this month (October) is by Hernan Catteneo a future star from South America. It is excellent if your into the more progressive sound. The magazine itself seems to have had a bit of a kick up the arse. The articles are far more detailed and interesting and relevent.
