Minolta Dimage 7(Superb Camera)

Advantages: Excellant quality pics,lots of functions,easy to use.

...This machine will be your best friend. Especially if you don't have a mobile that take photos. You can carry with you easy cause to the small size. Perfect image colours for the daylight photos but not the same for the night especially if you try to take photo people further than 2 meters due to the week flash. The battery last longer than other cameras cause the optical zoom is internal (Minolta pattern) and the LCD screen at the back is small(less energy consumption). So if you want to buy a quality that last with less money is a good selection. Definitely there are better cameras with better night photos. Although a seven year old design, the Dimage 7 is still a highly capable system, offering features which would still be considered innovative by current standards. The Dimage 7 was a serious attempt at bringing high specification digital photography to the well-to-do masses. In 2001, a typical 'compact camera' offered around 2 megapixels, had an only halfway decent lens and very little by way of 'proper' controls and would set you back a couple of hundred quid. The camera uses a rechargeable lithium battery (like a small cell phone battery) this means that if it goes flat, you can not put in a couple of AA's to tide you over. However, since using the camera I find that even after a full day of taking flash photos and movies the battery does not run out. That said, a spare battery can be obtained for less than £20, this is worth considering if you are a really heavy user. The battery has to be removed and placed in a separate charger, but this is a simple operation. I was travelling a lot and I prefer to use film cameras when I travel and for "serious" photographic work, as I provide a couple of Photo Libraries with images, and most of them still prefer slides, although many do accept digital images of high quality and resolution. A big reason for not using it more often at first was my unfamiliarity with digital cameras prior to my purchasing the Dimage 7i, but the main reason is the fact that I still prefer the colour intensity of my Fuji Velvias and Provias. It avoids the trap of many other digital cameras, with only a few buttons which are multifunctional, as opposed to lots of one-use buttons. This combines with the easy navigation of the camera menus to make the DiMAGE very easy to use. The LCD display is also impressive. The refresh rate is much faster than on other digital camaeras. As a result, it maintains a sharp picture when moved suddenly. However, like many LCD displays, it is only visible face on, with a very small angle view. Moreover, fingerprints greatly affects the view and, although I haven't damaged the screen yet, it is prone to damage, especially from excess pressure on the screen. Struggling to find a DIMAGE-inative title

Buying at Schiphol took over EUR 200 off the price ? EUR 885 instead of EUR 1085 (shop price when I purchased it), although this soon went on two extra 96Mb memory cards. ...Let me start by saying, this is no camera for the novice. If you're the point n click type person, you might as well stop reading right now. OK, so if you are still reading then I'm assuming you treat your photography quite seriously, you may even class yourself as a semi-pro. The Minolta Dimage 7 isn't a brand new camera (it's been around since about July 2001), but it's worth mentioning as they crop up second-hand a fair bit these days. It's original price in the UK was a staggering £999, but typically expect them to go for around £300 now on Ebay. Even for it's age, the features of this camera are impressive. A 5.24Megapixel CCD outputting a 2560 x 1920 pixel image.
