Minolta Dimage 7(Superb Camera)

Advantages: Excellant quality pics,lots of functions,easy to use.
Disadvantages: Batteries last about 20 mins if your lucky,Power pack was 50 pounds from jessups.

...Minolta have consistently pitched themselves at the high-end of photography, typically marketing themselves as the 'semi-pro' brand of choice for the discerning snapper. Although a seven year old design, the Dimage 7 is still a highly capable system, offering features which would still be considered innovative by current standards. The Dimage 7 was a serious attempt at bringing high specification digital photography to the well-to-do masses. In 2001, a typical 'compact camera' offered around 2 megapixels, had an only halfway decent lens and very little by way of 'proper' controls and would set you back a couple of hundred quid. ...Let me start by saying, this is no camera for the novice. If you're the point n click type person, you might as well stop reading right now. OK, so if you are still reading then I'm assuming you treat your photography quite seriously, you may even class yourself as a semi-pro. The Minolta Dimage 7 isn't a brand new camera (it's been around since about July 2001), but it's worth mentioning as they crop up second-hand a fair bit these days. It's original price in the UK was a staggering £999, but typically expect them to go for around £300 now on Ebay. Even for it's age, the features of this camera are impressive. A 5.24Megapixel CCD outputting a 2560 x 1920 pixel image. ...This machine will be your best friend. Especially if you don't have a mobile that take photos. You can carry with you easy cause to the small size. Perfect image colours for the daylight photos but not the same for the night especially if you try to take photo people further than 2 meters due to the week flash. The battery last longer than other cameras cause the optical zoom is internal (Minolta pattern) and the LCD screen at the back is small(less energy consumption). So if you want to buy a quality that last with less money is a good selection. Definitely there are better cameras with better night photos. But is difficult to find any camera to take photos at night. Tip for nights photos don't use the flash. Press the button for photo and wait . Try this to take photo a town from above at night. Very good prosumer digital camera

Advantages: Strong lens, quick focus, good feature set, great customer service

...Have had this camera a couple of weeks now and am getting to grips with it. The first thing to strike me was the quality of the lens. The zoom is excellent (equiv 28mm-200mm). Picture quality is very good, up to 2560 x 1900 (or whatever the factor of 1024 x 768 is). At highest res these TIFF files can hit 14MB each, although the less compressed Minolta-specific RAW format is only 7MB. Dropping to the second highest resolution ("Fine" as opposed to "Superfine" or "RAW") brings filesizes down drastically (about 1MB). The RAW files can only be viewed with the supplied software - TIFFs and JPEGS (the lower resolutions) can go straight into Photoshop or whatever. Connecting the camera to a PC via USB is straightforward with XP. Once you have the pictures on a PC you can appreciate the fine detail therein. The only weakness I have...

...of features, some of them 'gimmicky' but some useful ones too (see minoltas website for details) One thing that worried me before I bought the camera was the battery. The camera uses a rechargeable lithium battery (like a small cell phone battery) this means that if it goes flat, you can not put in a couple of AA's to tide you over. However, since using the camera I find that even after a full day of taking flash photos and movies the battery does not run out. That said, a spare battery can be obtained for less than £20, this is worth considering if you are a really heavy user. The battery has to be removed and placed in a separate charger, but this is a simple operation. There are plenty of cheaper cameras out there with a higher resolution, but resolution alone does not determine the quality of the picture. I think overall, considering...

...Part of my job involves taking photographs. Previously I had used a heavy but exceptionally good and hardworking semi-pro Canon Powershot G2, but this was replaced with a Konica Minolta Z5. In theory this should have been better. It was somewhat lighter, and had higher resolution with 5 mega pixels. That was the theory, but the truth is somewhat different. The view screen is useless when used outdoors, as it cannot be tilted (as that on the Canon can) so is not useable whilst in direct sunlight. Whilst the camera is reasonably easy to hold (it is clear that attention to detail has been given to the ergodynamic design of the camera) it has been designed in such a way that it is not easy for left-handed people to use. Struggling to find a DIMAGE-inative title

...I purchased my Minolta Dimage 5 at Schiphol airport, Amsterdam, and having had about 6 weeks of use, and still not used all the features, although I think I am just about ready to write a review about the camera. Buying at Schiphol took over EUR 200 off the price ? EUR 885 instead of EUR 1085 (shop price when I purchased it), although this soon went on two extra 96Mb memory cards.
