Konika-Minolta Magicolor with magical printed colours
Advantages: Vivid colours, reliable, prints beautifully
Disadvantages: Photo printing quality is only 7/10 in my rating
...We bought our Konika Minolta Magicolor 2350 laser printer four years ago. We use it at home but I print quite frequently. We decided to buy this printer because it is specially designed for optimal performance in Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, and other environments as well. This was important for us, as I use Windows but my husband is an IT professional and uses several other operation systems on his computers and sometimes also he wants to print something. He worked for a company where there were a lot of printers of this type and he had really good opinion about them. This opinion hasn?t changed since then.
Price of the printer and cartridges
When we bought it, it was on offer, so it was ?only? £650. It was a serious discount because its full price is £900.
There are four cartridges in it plus the drum cartridge, we had to change...

Magicolour but not Magical! Konica Minolta Magicolor 2450 Printer
Advantages: Great print quality
Disadvantages: Slow, expensive
...As with most ICT departments in schools we have the need for occasioanl colour laser printing and to this end we purchased a Magicolor 2450. The initial purchase price was reasonable (£450 ish) and the feature list impressed us.
The Product
The printer itself has a fairly small footprint it is about 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 18 inches high. The unit is predominatly a greyish cream colour with a dark blue top section. It looks quite good on a desk.
The Features
Well it is a colour laser printer, print quality is excellent. The paper tray is large holding approx 100 sheets which eliminates the constant refilling that so many inkjets suffer from. The printer has a network interface so that it can be easily shared as well as the standard parallel and USB conneections.

Konica Minolta 2550 - a step up from the entry level printer
Advantages: Quality prints, quiet
Disadvantages: A little expensive to run
...The Magicolor 2550 is positioned as one of Konica Minolta's entry level colour laser printers, well almost entry level, as it offers some very nice features without taking the price of the device too high.
The specification on offer from this full colour model is a cracking 20ppm (pages per minute) in monochrome and 5ppm in full colour. The native resolution is 600dpi with a x4 dithering method which beefs this up to an effective 2,400dpi. The model on review here is the standard model, which has 128MB of memory, is network ready and offers Postscript 3 printer language in addition to PCL6 and PDF support.
The 2550DN which is the next model up adds a built-in duplexer and has 256MB of memory, it also adds Pictbridge support for direct connection of a compatible digital camera. Both models are capable of handling a monthly duty cycle...

Magicolor 2350
Advantages: Easy install, great interface options, very fast black output
Disadvantages: colour output very, very slow at A4 size
...have to see a big sheet of steel with the connection sticking out? minolta dropped the ball a bit there.
I have one other little gripe that minolta really should listen to:
"please, please put a back light on the display"
the display is awkward to read except in very good light.
The installation was very easy - especially important on my mixed OS home network. wizards for windows are included on the software CD and a pretty easy PPD install is available for linux/unix which worked straight away. thats a rarity!
The machine has one or two disadvantages over inkjets though, firstly it takes a while to wake up. when you switch it on it can take up to 5 minutes to be ready to print, although it more usually about 2 minutes, and it tends to make quite a lot of noise going about it. secondly its outout is not quite as good as a top...

Review Minolta Z2
Advantages: Infinately (well almost) settings, accurate settings, only for the keen photographers
Disadvantages: autofocus and metering inaccurate, not good for occasional snappers
...I bought a Minolta Z2 about 6 months ago.
I have been an avid amateur photographer for years, done the photographic clubs etc, got bored with the expense of processing etc and I have always had Minolta cameras. But then the digital cameras came along and changed all that. There aint nothing wrong with Minolta?s reliability, but there?s certainly an air of cheapness of the finish when it comes to Konica, but times are hard, they?re squeezing more and more out of nothing and that costs nothing. But it seems to me that as Minolta are still in control of the upper markets (e.g. 7Hi). It looks like Konica have stamped their position on the lower end cameras, i.e. this one and its predecessors: Z1, Z10 blah, blah. The workings have definitely the stamp of Minolta, I just hope that the Konica haven?t compromised with the quality...

Minolta's best yet
Advantages: Same fast printing in COLOUR as well as black
Disadvantages: Can not reduce quality to save toner
...Minolta 3100 colour laserjet printer is the flagship of their range.
For small workgroups it's ideal.
I personally use it to print a regular magazine, in superior quality, for subscribers.
After using my inkjet printer for a few months and being frustrated at not being able to print both sides of the paper automatically, I decided to upgrade my whole output to colour laser.
I first tried a budget laser printer from Minolta but found it very slow and noisy.
On looking through their brochure, my attention was drawn to the 3100, priced at £1500.00 this was the best of the bunch for me.
There were higher priced units but they were more suitable for large corporate businesses rather than my 'work from home' business.
With a printing speed of up to 16 pages per minute, duplex printing, high capacity toner cartridges...

Minolta Z2, best of its class
Advantages: Great for beginners and more experienced photographers
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
...The Konica Minolta Z2 was our first digital camera. We took time to research which cameras on the market had the features which we required. Previously to buying the Z2, we had been using a Ricoh which had many features, so we did not want to lose any and hopefully gain some more. The Z2 certainly fitted our criteria. As we spend part of each year in Corfu, Greece and we drive there in our Type 2 VW camper, we needed the camera to perform in many conditions, including being able to take photographs on the move from the van.
The Z2 has a clear screen and a viewfinder, which we personally prefer to use.
The Z2, apart from having a fully automatic option also has several pre-set options, these include portrait, for close-ups, action for those subjects which are moving but also fantastic for using while we are moving in the van, night...

A year with a Minolta A2
Advantages: Versatility, great results, long battery life
Disadvantages: sluggish shutter speeds
...The A2 will work in RAW mode and its results although slow to record are of a very high quality.
Overall it's a great camera and a good next step from your first digital experience.
If you can afford the difference choose this over the A1 version just because of the viewfinder.
Hope this helps you...

A cheap, high quality colour laser printer
Advantages: Small, excellent quality output, takes glossy paper and networkable too
Disadvantages: Slow to print in full colour
...Having paid £250 for this printer, I have found it to be an outstanding quality colour laser printer for home use.
To start by looking at it's size, the printer takes up much less desk space than my previous colour laser printer. It is 430 mm wide, 395 mm deep and 341 mm high. On the front of the printer is a fold down tray were you feed in the paper, which then comes out at the top. Above the paper tray is another fold down area where the toners go.
In terms of print QUALITY this printer gives an excellent finish with a semi-shiny appearance. Having compared it to printers costing over twice as much (such as the OKI 5000 series) the print quality is as good, in my opinion. Konica Minolta describe the print resolution as PhotoART-9600TM resolution (600 x 600 x 4) and I have to say that it's excellent.
The printer...

These printers are an absolute nightmare...
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Clunky, Noisy, Toner Leakage, Paper Pickup Problems, Sensor Problems, Cheaply Built, The List Goes On...
...We bought 6 of these printers back in early 2005 and after 1 year, were riddled with different problems - e.g. paper not picking up, numerous paper jams, "cyan/magenta/yellow/black toner not installed" error messages (will get to this one later), video underrun error (which basically colour washed the whole page it happened to be printing at the time.) Even after a month we had to call konica minolta to send out a printer engineer because 2 of our printers refused to pick up any paper, and these 2 still have trouble picking up paper even now.
The insides of these printers can get very dirty with toner which will cause a whole load of other problems like the "X toner not installed" error messages mentioned above.
It seems that due to what looks like a design fault - where by the electrical contacts for the printer cartridges are...
