Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom lens user review
Advantages: great zoom range, good build quality, image stabilization, universal
Disadvantages: maximum apertures only average, high price
...down - which is a good thing in my book since it prevents most of the accidental bumps it might otherwise receive.
The lens has a metal mount and plastic construction, it feels sturdy and stable in hand. The zoom mechanish is of good quality, uses a double trombone design and when fully extended, the lens almost doubles its length. There is almost no wobble in the barrel when full extended. Lens front does not rotate when focussing or zooming. The filter thread is 72mm and a bayonet type shade is supplied in the box.
The zoom ring is located on the front half of the lens body, it is moderately stiff, with no uneven movement on my sample (I have heard of uneven zoom rings on other people's lenses though). There is some lens creep - when pointing the lens straight up or down with the barrel partly extended, the barrel will slowly creep...

Minolta Riva Zoom 115
Advantages: Easy to use controls, Compact size, nice silver finish, Good picture quality
Disadvantages: Small viewfinder
.... The camera has a powerful flash with good range and exposure when used. Also has red eye reduction with self timer. The camera has a silent rewind button when film has reached the end - useful if your in a quiet place.
The zoom range is good from 38-115mm enough to bring distant objects close. The camera feels comfortable to hold and the controls that are needed the most like zooming in/out and shutter release button are close at hand. The only drawbacks i found with this camera is the small viewfinder. I personally found it very small for a 35mm zoom camera and i don't wear glasses!! You have to squint at times to take good photo. Also i wish the camera had date/time print facility that enables you to print the date/time on photo when picture was taken. But if you don't mind the small viewfinder i think this camera would be a good...

Canon EF-S 18-55mm Zoom Lens
Advantages: Cheap and light
Disadvantages: Grainy photo quality, low zoom
...I recently purchased a sweet Canon 400D/XTi Rebel from Amazon.co.uk (£45 cashback!) and this standard zoom lens (Canon EF-S 18-55mm) came with it.
As far as I know, you cannot purchase the Canon EF-S 18-5mm on it's own, as it's designed specifically to be sold with the 400D/XTi Rebel package. I'm sure you can pick up a cheap one on eBay though (probably removed from a kit package, or being sold due to an upgrade from kit package). I've seen the EF-S 18-55mm sell for around £25-£35 at undamaged/rarely used condition on eBay, which is quite cheap!
I obviously chose the kit lens package with my 400D/XTi Rebel as it only adds about £40 in the price difference, and I couldn't afford a new lens at that time.
Before I start reviewing the actual lens, I'd like to say that is is a kit lens. It doesn't have a great built quality...

The Minolta Riva Zoom 130
Advantages: Superb Features, Good Design, Durable
Disadvantages: Can take a while for a photo to be taken
...-framing guide
+ 130mm zoom
- Could have more features if we were to be greedy!
- The camera can take a while for a photo to be taken but this is due to the camera focusing.
All of the functions perform well and the landscape view is particularly useful although a tripod is recommended!
PHOTO QUALITY:
+ All of the photos i have received i have been more than happy with the quality of the photo.
OTHER:
+ Good instruction manual
+ Great looking camera
+ Mine came with a free case, film and two batteries!
+ Great value, i got mine for a bargain £80!
I would highly recommend this camera to anyone!...

The Canon 10-20mm EF-S lens, perfect for landscapes.
Advantages: Excellent quality pictures, Useful wide angle range. Good build quality.
Disadvantages: No lens hood, Not compatible with all EOS cameras
...Introduction
The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-f4.5 USM lens is a high quality wide-angle zoom lens that is ideal for landscape, architectural and interior photography.
It is designed to be used with all Canon EOS cameras with an APS-C sized censor and an EF-S lens mount, it cannot be used with Canon full frame or film cameras, also some older EOS models will not accept this lens either.
To see if your camera is compatible with this lens, check your camera for the following.
All Canon EOS cameras have a red spot on the lens mount to denote the lens alignment for EF mount lenses, check to see if your camera has an additional white spot to denote the lens alignment for EF-S mount lenses, if it does, then this lens will fit.
Focal length
This lens has an actual focal length of 10-22mm, but because of the x1.6 crop...

Canon Lens
Advantages: Lightweight
Disadvantages: None
...This is a good quality lens that offers good value for money. It's a great lens for any canon enthusiast and incorporates plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. After using this product for a few months I have not so far come up against any reliability issues but only time will tell. I therefore would recommend the product. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need.

Good alternative to a kit zoom lens
Advantages: Good for shooting in low light, compact, discreet, low weight
Disadvantages: None really
...This lens is an ideal "normal" lens for a digital SLR camera.
It gives a similar field of view to using a standard 50mm lens with a film SLR camera.
The reason for this is that most DSLR cameras have a sensor that is smaller than the standard 24x36mm area on each exposure in a roll of film. (24x36mm is often referred to as "full-frame")
All Nikon DSLRs (apart from the new D3) use 16x24mm sensors known as "DX" size. These dimensions are 1/1.5 the size of full-frame, so the term "1.5X Crop Factor" is often used.
If you take this 35mm lens and multiply by the 1.5X crop factor then it gives 52.5mm, which is the equivalent field of view this lens gives compared with using film.
DSLRs are often sold with a basic "kit lens", for example an 18-55mm zoom lens.
While being able to zoom is often useful, the downside is that...

Great 2nd Lens
Advantages: Fast Focus, well built, reliable excellent performance all round
Disadvantages: Heavy, you will need a tripod
...As you may be gathering, I have been investing in camera stuff recently...
This is the 2nd lens I bought for my camera which is excellent. It takes very good and sharp pictures all the way through and is not prone to glare, possibly due to the very large hood it comes with!
The operation of the lens is very simple and fits on both the Sony a-mount as well as the Konica Minolta mount. Zooming is done through a large in the middle and if you are focusing manually it is through a front ring. Again there is no distance indicator for the focus ring but that is only useful for nerds as you will not be able to focus and measure distance at the same time unless you want to get a tape out to check!
The longest zoom is at 300mm. Now bear in mind that digital SLR cameras have a "crop" factor in the majority of cases and the Sony a-100 has...

Cheap lens = cheap photos!
Advantages: Worst lens for a professional but good to start out with; cheap; easy to learn with;
Disadvantages: Worst lens for a pro, frontal element rotates,
...is made out of plastic, except for the lens itself. The slot where you insert it into the body is made out of metal so I was slightly assured that it wasn't going to fall off. There are two rotational bands; one for the small zoom provided and one for focussing. You can have it in two ways; automatic focus or you can control the focussing yourself. The manual focussing I felt, was incredibly difficult to do on the 18-55mm lens. I cannot explain why. But for most people, they will find it a lot easier to do manual than automatic, as it is a lot quicker. However, beware of unsharp results. The automatic focus is quite fast and accurate but if it focusses on the wrong area of the frame, you will have to turn to manual to rectify this.
The optical zoom on this was predictably disappointing; the focal length was short. I liked the 18mm as it...

Nearly one 'L' of a lens
Advantages: Useful range. Fast f/2.8 aperture. Great IS. Superb image quality.
Disadvantages: Lens hood costs extra!
...Having owned and used a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM zoom lens for around 15 months, I feel that I have some well balanced experience with it.
Being an EF-S lens (the 'S' standing for 'Short' back-focus), it is designed for use ONLY with cameras having APS-C size sensors. Do not attempt to use one on a full-frame DSLR or 35mm SLR camera. Firstly, such lenses have a reduced image circle which will produce severe vignetting on large sensor cameras and secondly, the mount of the rear lens element could be struck by the camera's mirror, causing serious damage.
On a Canon APS-C size DSLR, this 3.2x zoom provides a useful range of focal lengths from 27.2mm to 88mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 which is consistent throughout the zoom range. This fast aperture makes the lens eminently suitable for low-light work, particularly as it...
