...Alongside Gaudi Casa Mila the other art exhibit I definitely wanted to see while in Barcelona was the Fundacio Joan Miro which is an impressive collection of Miro work with many of the pieces being donated by the man himself. About the artist Miro passed away bin his 90th year in 1983 and is one of the great Catalan artists. Much of his work has links to Surrealism and abstract art, for me it his sculptures that are of particular interest and provide the most pleasure however that is not to say that I would discount his paintings and drawings it is just that on the whole I find that the sculpture has more of a ?wow? factor. Certainly it was the sculptures that most appealed to the children with the exception of the giant tapestry that covers a huge wall space and can be viewed from both ground level and also from a balcony where...

...from a Hilton hotel. There were a lot of Americans in the hotel when we were there and they are ‘catered for’ to make them feel at home. Local attractions close to the hotel include modernist architecture with the church of the Sagrada Familia and the concert Hall, Cathedral and Gothic quarter, "La Rambla" promenade, Picasso museum, Modernist Art Museum, Miro and Tapies Foundation, National Museum of Catalonia, Olympic Stadium, Montjuic Palace and Olympic marina....

Deep Chilled Music

Advantages: Great to listen to after being stressed out or something similar, Excellent choice of tracks

...This is one hell of a great album. Ever wanted to listen to an album after a hard days work or stressed out and it helps you relax? Then try this album called Deep & Chilled Euphoria. Mixed by Red Jerry, the man behind the prevoius Chilled Euphoria, he has superbly mixed and selected dance tunes which bring a chilled out feeling to you and helps you relax. I just love every single track on here, especially BBE. This was a superb track to hear when it was released in 1995 and I loved the remix of it which brought a feeling of chilling out to your whole body. All the songs are brilliant and have Groove Armada, Leftfield, Rui Da Silva, Miro, Xstasia, Sasha, Sister Bliss and Moby featuring with many more included. The first CD has 14 tracks mixed in and the second CD has 15 tracks. Both are excellent. So basically...

Thou art quite good.

Advantages: Lots of good modern art
Disadvantages: May be very different when you go - mainly exhibitions!

...I visited Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona last week, and found myself very impressed with the collections that they had to offer. It was the third art gallery I had visited in a week in Barcelona (after Miro and Picasso's collections), and, in my opinion, competed with both. The first impressions of the gallery are of the building's exterior. When it opened in 1995, many of the locals objected to the stark contrast the building with the surroundings. While I admit this criticism from residents, I found the white, glass, huge modern architecture to be inspiring and a breath of fresh air. Indeed it seems to reflect the modernisation and investment put into the Raval area over the past few years. Indeed the purpose of the building, according to the architect, was to "create a dialogue" between the museum and its surroundings...

Review of Museu d`Art Contemporani de Barcelona

Everyone on holiday in Majorca should visit.

Advantages: Free, large gallery of Spanish art, Picasso, Miro etc and good temporary exhibits
Disadvantages: You may not of heard of the artists, but it's good to see something different

...I visited this gallery while on holiday last May, and if I get into Palma on another trip to Majorca in a few weeks time I intend to go back. If you compare the size of the gallery to the island it is on, then Museu d'Art Espanyol Contemporani is bigger than Tate Modern. The gallery's collection, however, is more speciallised to modern Spanish art, mainly paintings, with its permanent collection including Picasso, Miro, Tapies and Barcelo, but most tastes should be accomodated. A few rooms upstairs are given over to temporary exhibitions (Lichtenstein 7/3-17/6/06 and I saw Luis Gordillo on my visit). The gallery is well curated and presented. Entry is free, so everyone who goes to Palma should visit. It's a nice relaxing space, and if you study all the work then you can spend half a day here. Also good if you're stuck looking...

Romy and Michelle

Advantages: hillarious
Disadvantages: Bad 80's Theme tune

...to lie and say that they invented ?Post-It?s!? So they go to their Reunion and everything kicks of!! Performances I don?t think that it?s any secret that Lisa Kudrow, is an extremely good comedy actress, with impeccable timing, grace, talent, and just plain old humour. In this her portrait of Michelle is just truly hilarious! Miro Sovio is also excellent as Romy; she is completely engaging, funny and makes you believe in a character that is completely unbelievable. I was actually quite upset that they didn?t really give Alan Cummings anything to work with, as he is usually a really good actor but in this one he never really does anything other than look gawky and nerdy. Janeane Garofalo does deserve a mention as the gothic bitch. Excellent performance as ever. That it with the good performances but Julia Campbell, Vincent Ventresca...

Review of Romy And Michele's High School Reunion (DVD)

Hola Barcelona!

Advantages: lots to see, lots to do.....
Disadvantages: pick pockets and not being able to speak Spanish..

.... Clean, comfortable, good service and we had a very large terrace) Be very careful of your belongings here, as the area has a reputation for theft. Can?t beat it for galleries and Museums if that?s your thing ? being Picassos stomping ground, along with Miro and Gaudi. Park Guell ? a park designed by Gaudi to replicate an English country garden is a must, as are the Cathedrals. Funky hip bars and clubs and an extremely wide variety of good restaurants. Shopping (if that is your bag) is pretty good too, but fortunately for my bank balance, my boyfriends ?shop tolerance? level is low!...
