Think twice before buying a Mitsubishi Shogun!
Advantages: Great looks, safety, great for countryside, ?space?
Disadvantages: NON-economic, expensive, depreciates quickly
...thought, I'm practically in the middle of nowhere, I need a 4 wheel drive, that would make me popular with the posh neighbors, wouldn't it?
So you do it, doing a bit of light background research, after all, your just trying to enjoy the Summer Sunshine, but you need to find you dream car along the way.
I decided on getting a superb Mitsubishi Shogun, wonderful car, I read, great to drive I heard. So I started to scavenge around the local Private Dealers, after all, I've got a bit of cash, and for that touch of perfection, I'd rather have perfection in life rather than a hell life of rusting nuts, so I got out, on my mystery search, to find "this" car.
Luckily, just a short walk away from my house, I find a dealer, who's got 1 Mitsubishi Shogun in stock, and its good value he says!
"Oh yes, I love the car, my favorite you see, I can't be...

Shogun
Advantages: Wide Scope, Learn Japanese and Japanese Culture and History
Disadvantages: Few
...Introduction:
Shogun is an epic novel set in 17th Century Feudal Japan. It is one of a series of interconnected (but stand alone) novels including Tai Pan, Gai Jin, Noble House and Whirlwind.
Plot:
The story deals with several themes, the introduction of Northern European mariners into the closed Japanese society, the stuggle for control of Japan itself by the warring factions, the establishment of Christianity, the conflict between the Spanish and Portuguese who are already there and the forbidden love of one of the mariners and a married Japanese woman.
The story is primarily told through the exploits of John Blackthorn, the English pilot of the Dutch ship Erasmus a trader warship sent to plunder Spanish and Portuguese possessions in the New World. The ship manages to make it through the Strait of Magellan and find...

Shogun Sport Warrior, Hit or Miss ?
Advantages: Good Looks / More than capable off-roader
Disadvantages: "Agricultural" feel & Running costs
...the vibrations from the engine/road being transferred to the steering wheel and dash. 5th gear if you are 5ft 10" or over ends up resting on your leg (A right pain when travelling distance). Shoguns also have a tendancy for their engines to "hunt" at low revs which makes them jerky at slow speeds or moving off (Unless you use a generous amount of throttle). The seats however are very comfortable even on the longest of journeys and the leather used (if you opt for that option) is of excellent quality, the slightly raised roof (over the older models) gives an average of around an extra inch or two headroom which is a god send and ensures that you are not doing a Quasi Modo impression at the end of your journey. Mitsubishi claim around 27mpg sitting at motorway speeds for their diesel variants which i would agree with which on balance sounds quite...

Mitsubishi Pajero- automatic 2.8 turbodiesel
Advantages: Commanding driving position, Good ride and feeling of safety
Disadvantages: MPG, old fashioned diesel sound
...The Pajero is a so-called ?grey import?, which is imported directly from Japan without official sanction of Mitsubishi Motors. They are almost identical to the Mitsubishi Shogun sold in this country for a number of years (1980?s-onwards), what the mechanical/electrical differences are I?m not exactly sure and it seems that the majority of people that deal with them aren?t sure either. The majority of ?greys? speedometers are in kilometres per hour, however ours has been converted to Miles Per Hour. The major difference between the official and grey versions is the level of equipment with the Pajero being far superior to the Shogun, depending of course on the specification level. The most obvious difference between Pajero/Shogun is the ?greys? colour scheme, with Pajero?s usually having a different coloured centre section. The long wheel...

Does the new model live up to its predecessors??
Advantages: Economical, reliable machine
Disadvantages: ...can't think of any
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~HISTORY~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The renowned Shogun has been well developed since the model's introduction in 1981.The Shogun can claim to be the most advanced model in its class by employing outstanding features such as Super Select 2 or 4 wheel drive technology and advanced direct injection engine technology. Despite its outstanding passenger car levels of comfort, the Shogun is every bit as capable off road as it has always been. It was the Shogun that originally allowed Mitsubishi to become a serious contender in the 4x4 market in 1981 inning the Paris-Dakar rally in 1984 affirmed the Shogun's legendary status and twenty-five years later the Mitsubishi Shogun is bigger and better than ever before. The Shogun range consists of a huge range, including long and short wheel base versions, choice of petrol or diesel engines...

Built for grunt, not for speed
Advantages: Will drive up the side of a house
Disadvantages: Slowly
...I love this car!
The Shogun Sport is a powerful off roader but a bit more refined than the Shogun. A "Diet Shogun" perhaps.
It has quite a clunky appearence and while it has great road presence, this is due to it looking a bit mean and fit for purpose, rather than it having any great beauty!
The engine and 4x4 system are very effective and easy to get the benefit from but this car is built for power, not for speed. It will pull you up the side of a house, probably with a trailer attached, but you are not going to go very fast. I do not know whether this pay off is inherent in the nature of 4x4s or whether speed was just not very high on Mitsubishi's list of requirements but that is the choice you have to make with the Shogun Sport.
I have not taken my car on off road tracks but we frequently drive in muddy fields or very...

good choice of soft roader
Advantages: a reliable, spacious 4x4
Disadvantages: can feel awkward at times
...We are now on our second of these meduim sized soft roaders, and have never had any problems with them.
Smaller and less bulky than the grown-up shogun, the sport never the less has a good road presence. The higher driving postion, large but well styled mirrors and ample glass gives an excellent view of the road, both in front and behind (marred slightly by the addition of rear passenger head rests) with only a marginal blind spot on the rear quarter.
The all round driving performance is good from a car of this sort. The torquey 2.5l turbo diesel is a good lump, paired to a fairly good 5 speed gearbox. Low gears have plenty of power, but this seems to have compromised top end speed (106 maximum on German autobahn's)..When cold the gearbox can be stiff, lumpy and uncompramising, but soon eases into a well workable transmission. Added to...

WHY TO BUY A MITSUBISHI FTO GPX MIVEC
Advantages: Looks, Sound, Power, Driver/Passenger comfort,
Disadvantages: Some parts can be pricey, weak link rods on front suspension
...-roads are fun especially when in manual mode. Get the car up to 3500rpm and the engine changes in to the mivec mode, switch to manual shift and the fun begins, this is where the engine develops the recognisable growl that you may hear on occassions, drop a gear and hit the pedal and a surge runs through the engine developing into a very quick take off...boy racers in their maxed Corsa's/ Puntos cant cope and neither can a lot of other similar coupes... (remember car of the year in Japan and used for racing aswell with very few mods)
The gear box in this model is semi - automatic with mitsubishi technology called INVECS, basically what it means is that when driving the car in manual the car will "remember" when you change gear at a certain RPM and then apply this to the gear change when it is driven in automatic. So, the car will drive in auto...

Very Poor
Advantages: Looks Great
Disadvantages: Where should I start ... read below
...! Was told by my local main dealer that it must be how I'm driving the car (they'd experience clutch replacements after 7500 miles). Needless to say, I'm an experienced driver 10-plus years, mainly drive the Shogun onthe Motorway and know how to use a clutch. I still have the worn clutch in my garage!!! After complaining toe Mitsubishi, who called the main dealer, was simply told that I didn't have a leg to stand on - if I wanted to appeal, then I should pay for a third party independent inspection - at a cost fo £250! Having spoke to the AA about this, they (off the record) suggested that I wouldn't get anywhere with this no matter what they found.
This car goes back to the lease company in April - thank god....
