The Moat House - Stoke
Advantages: Good facilities, Good food,
Disadvantages: None
...We fancied a few days away and decided to visit Alton Towers, unfortunately the on-site hotel was fully booked so we looked for alternatives. After the normal review / price checking we opted for the Best Western Moat House in Stoke on Trent (it is 15 miles from Alton Towers which due to the roads works out to be 40 ins drive).
We booked for 3 night at £116 per room including breakfast directly through the hotels web site. The hotel has an adequate amount secure on-site parking we went into the hotel. The nearest entrance to the car park takes you into the ground floor where the gym, bar and restaurant is located, so you need to take the lift (or stairs) to the first floor and reception.
The reception area is large and well presented, with free copies of The Independent. Check in was the normal fill in some details, take a swipe...

Nottingham Royal Moat House
Advantages: pleasant clean environment -value for money - pool and gym
Disadvantages: parking charge at some locations - clarity of website info
...Needing a hotel room for one night I trawled the internet options found via google and found the site for Moat house hotels.
Two on offer in Nottingham area - Royal Moat is in city centre and very convenient. the other seem a bit of a way out of the centre.
Found the website booking service to be a bit confusing, especially as there were so many diffrent price options for what seemed to be the same type of room! All were described as mini standard double and yet prices ranged from about £100 to £58. Needless to say I eventually opted for the £58 option which provided a room for 2 including full buffet breakfast. (I did check the central reservations phone line and got a response that only one room was available at a price in excess of £120 - they could not answer how it was that the website was showing lots of cheaper options) I...

Not the Hotel from Hell, a Moat Point.
Advantages: Lots to do at the lesuire centre.
Disadvantages: Loose information!
...Instead of staying at the Britannia Hotel, Shane and I decided to book a room over the Internet at the three-star West Bromwich Moat House Hotel, Birmingham. (Okay I was sick of no one answering the phone when I tried to book a room at the Britannia Hotel, so I went to a hotel that I had used in Birmingham before and found to be of a high standard in the past, West Bromwich Moat House Hotel). This hotel has one hundred and sixty eight bedrooms along with a large conference meeting centre facilities accommodating up to one hundred and eighty delegates.
This Moat House is perfectly situated for the M5 and M6 motorways, allowing easy access to the National Exhibition Centre, Hawthorne?s football stadium (West Bromwich Football Club) and of course the city centre.
On arriving you are greeted to ample car parking space. It is free to park...

My moat therapy
Advantages: Affordable high class hotel, friendly and helpful staff and good position.
Disadvantages: Lack of mini bar.
...I have just returned from Plymouth. I went for my sisters hen night and my wonderful husband booked me into a crown room at the Moat House Hotel on the Hoe at Plymouth. He went to visit his mother with our four children.
I arrived late Friday evening and quickly and effortlessly I was directed to my room for the weekend. After dumping my bags I then preceded to the restaurant to have my long awaited for evening meal. I had telephoned at about 7.30pm that evening requesting a table for 9pm.
I waited a couple of minutes to be shown to my table, which seemed like an eternity as I had not eaten all day. I was seated by a window, which had it not been dark, I would have seen the sea.
My booking had been a leisure weekend booking so I had the choice of three set meal. I was quickly offered a drink and due to my husbands instructions I...

Alton House Hotel
Advantages: Posh hotel, it looks nice, but...
Disadvantages: The staff
...I went to stay here in 2006, I think. For my sisters wedding. It was a nice hotel, the architecture inside I knew wasn't real, but it was meant to look posh. Which it did, but only in one room... the reception. So, I stayed here for two days and one night. I didn't sleep on a proper bed, because the room was full in which I was sleeping in (Since its a wedding and all). So in the corner of the room, I had to sleep on a horrible, tiny, lumpy bed. Which can be folded again into a bag. Of course, I can't blame the hotel for the poor bed, because this was my own fault. I'm sure that if there weren't so many people I could of slept on the double bed, which is better.
So, in the early days, considering to be the 1800's - Alton House Hotel used to be a house. Not a hotel. Rich people used to live in this house. It was only in the 1940's that...

Chester Moat House/Crowne Plaza
Advantages: Excellent location, car park very near by, complementary use of lovely leisure facilities.
Disadvantages: Building not very attractive, must pay for car park.
...hotel - there are no windows at all on one side of the building and the entrance is under a bridge. However, once you get inside, the decor is lovely and makes up for the outside.
The hotel has recently had a name change from the Moat House to the Crowne Plaza due to the refurbishments which are ongoing unil May 2006. The refurbishments did not affect us at all - no noise or mess.
We paid £199 for two nights (Easter bank holiday weekend) which included the room, breakfast on both mornings (buffet style with hot English breakfast, cereal, fruit, juice, croissants etc), à la carte three course dinner and a bottle of house wine on the first night and use of the leisure facilities. We also got a newspaper on our door each morning including Easter Sunday which was a nice touch.
Highly recommended - I will definitely visit again....

Lochside House Hotel, Ayrshire, Scotland
Advantages: perfect service, helpful staff, lovely food and rooms
Disadvantages: can be somewhat expensive but you will get great service
...Lochside House Hotel
Located in the western Ayrshire, ¾ distance on A76 from Cumnock to New Cumnock lies the family hotel Lochside. As the name says, it's in the vicinity of two lakes, one of them Loch of the Lowes.
This hotel is owned by the Kyle family, who have purchased the property almost 10 years ago when it was in the state of a more or less ruined old farmhouse and they have advanced and refusbished it into a 3-star hotel which has to offer much more than just bed and breakfast.
I have worked in this hotel but it wouldn't be fair to tell you the Kyles' knowhow, now would it? I always thought it must be a pleasure to stay at Lochside as the service as well as staff was always brilliant, rooms well furnished and properly cleaned, menu vast and lots to choose from, also I've seen many guests coming back and a number...

Hillthwaite House Hotel - a Haven!
Advantages: Value for money, service, restaurant
Disadvantages: Drive is on a very steep hill!
...I've just got back from a long weekend in the Lake District. You might question the wisdom of going to the Lakes for a weekend of watersports and outdoor activities in wintry March, and you'd be right to do so! However, the gale force winds, hail and snow were made bearable by the excellent Hillthwaite House Hotel where we were staying. The hotel was an absolute haven!
Basics
The hotel is a family run business and has about thirty rooms. We were staying on a special weekend offer and paid £185 each for three nights, including bed, breakfast and dinner. The hotel is in Windermere and is about a fifteen minute drive from the M6. It has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Getting There
The hotel had sent a brochure after I booked on the phone and the brochure had a map on the back so I wasn't expecting any...

Food with a View
Advantages: Great views.
Disadvantages: Pay for the car park!
...Well this week resulted in me finally completing the sale to purchase my new house in Cornwall, but the only problem was that Cornwall is still into the holiday season so most hotels were still fully booked up. HELP! What was I to do as being disabled; many Guest Houses and Bed and Breakfasts are unsuitable for my needs. So after looking on the Internet, I found a room at Plymouth Hoe Moat House Hotel.
On arriving at Plymouth Hoe Moat House Hotel you can drop off at the hotel entrance but must go behind the hotel to park in either the underground car park or alternatively in the external car park. There seems to be reasonably ample car parking space, but during the height of the holiday season I think parking places are at a premium. Well there are two hundred and ten bedrooms in this quality hotel, which is situated both close to...

Working With, Living With
Advantages: Great access to Cambridge
Disadvantages: Maybe thinks it's better than it is?
...Ok now hear me out before you start to yell. Whilst I have never stayed in the Moat House Hotel, it is situated in the village I have lived in my entire life.. in fact it's not just situated, it's sitting on my doorstep. If you look out the back of my house you actually look on to the hotels golfcourse, if you exit my road exactly opposite is the staff entrance to the hotel, and if you drive for 10 seconds down the road is the grand entrance. So whilst I have never stayed in it, my experience living around it - and working in it - is what I shall base this review off. Looking for an alternative review? Keep reading.
Bar Hill is a village that has been on the grow for quite sometime now, not population wise - as no new homes have been built in for as long as I can remember - but in a business sense the plan for the village was always...
