Most people remember the old classic Nokia 3210, quite heavy with its redeeming feature being snake. Since then Nokia has come a long way and I've had several Nokia phones in my time: the good old 3210, a 6210 which was originally intended for business and had a huge memory, a cute 6233 with a 2megapixel camera along with many other features, and finally a 6500 slide. WHY/HOW I GOT IT A couple of years ago a company called 'future phones' called me and I set up a contract with them for a 6233 on the 3 network. ...After using my Nokia 6300 for around a year I decided to upgrade. I had the choice of a number of phones however opted to go for the Nokia 6500 Slide. I can see where some confusion can come from when it comes to the Nokia 6500: The Nokia 6500 Classic and Nokia 6500 Slide are two quite different phones. The classic came first and has a more traditional mobile phone layout and boasts a medicore 2.0MP camera. The slide on the other hand is the upgrade to the Classic and boasts an ultra sleek slide design with a pretty good 3.2MP camera with flash. It also comes with a front facing camera however unfortunately it can only be used while making 3G video calls and not just to take pictures. Although the phone looks very sleek and well built. I have had the phone for around a month and when I press the buttons it sometimes does not...

...After recently getting rid of my old Orange contract and moving to O2 I decided to get a new phone as well. After much deliberation I decided on the Nokia 6500 slide in black. I could have got the silver phone at a much cheaper price but I decided that the black one looked too good to turn down. First Impressions If you look at the phone from a top down view you will see that the screen is quite big. Infact it is 2.2 inches which is fairly big. Below the screen are four buttons as well as 4 directional buttons in silver. The bottom two buttons are the main calling buttons. The one on the bottom left is the green "call" button which is used to dial a number you've typed in or look at the recent call list. The one on the bottom right is the "end call" button which ends calls and, when in the menu, takes you back to the home screen...

Advantages: Wide array of featues, good build quality, overall friendly interface, excellent call clarity.
Disadvantages: Battery life could be better, some features not implemented as well as possible.

...would still recommend the Nokia 6500 to any buyer, particularly those who have been missing out on a number of newer features. The problems I have encountered may be mildly irritating at the time but they only slightly detract from an otherwise very good product....

...I got a Nokia 6500 slide with a monthly contract deal from 3 mobile a few months ago. I had not had a Nokia before, but obviously knew them to be one of the largest handset manufacturers, so thought I would get this one to see what I was missing out on, the truth is....not a lot really. GOOD BITS. the phone is good looking, has a solid feel to the slider mechanism, a good camera with flash. BAD BITS. Battery life is a joke, ideally, it needs to be charged every day. The phone regularly completely crashes and re-sets itself, meaning all your personal settings ie. ringtones, wallpaper etc are set back to factory settings. In sunlight, the screen actually gets darker, and more difficult to see, then gets lighter in dark circumstances, surely Nokia know this is the wrong way round?? Advantages: Slim, lightweight, looks good.
Disadvantages: Texting can be difficult until you are used to it.

Slidey 6500

Advantages: Smooth slide and large screen
Disadvantages: Bad button sensors and silient tone.

...This mobile is very asthetically pleasing to the eye. The slide is extreamly smooth however it is not an extreamly reliable phone as the slient on mine has stopped working and also the buttons have to be pressed quite hard for them to work after a while however the screen is quite big and the options and quality on the phone is amazing th graphics and sound are relatively good and the camera is fabulous, also this phone doesn't scratch easily however the phones I have had in the past with other brands to nokia I have had have been much better and for this reason I would not reccommend this mobile. Great Nokia Phone, impressive 6500 slide.

Advantages: Stylish, well built - good quality, easy to use

...I got this phone as an upgrade on my O2 contract from the 6300, initially when comparing, I felt the 6500 slide was quite large and heavy but after a month I feel I can comment more appropriately on all of it's features. LOOK & FEEL The phone generally looks quite stylish. I own the fully black model which I feel gives it quite a modern look, I have found quite a few people noticing the phone and questioning me on what model it is etc. At first I felt the phone was quite chunky in comparison to my older model but after a few hours it became normal and is quite nice to hold. BUTTONS I have heard how other users have had problems with the buttons on this phone but I have found them to be fine and so far have had no problems with them.
