Advantages: Good modernised collection of dance music.
Disadvantages: Maybe not what people expect from William Orbit

...William Orbit, the man who relaunched Madonna's career and dance DJ has recently divulged into a slightly alternative them for his latest albumn. He has selected 11 classical pieces of music from the likes of Vivaldi, Beethoven and Handel and added his own modern touch to create Pieces in a Modern Style. The pieces are still at a slow classical speed and are not for those who only like fast dance music. The pieces are also quite disimilar to the Ferry Corsten remixes that had so much airplay when Adagio for Strings was riding high in the charts. However as a relaxing albumn this does just the job. As a respected producer William Orbit has managed to modernise classical music and bring it to the masses.... Read review

...I graduated from salford University in 1996 after completing a four year course in Modern Languages (French and Spanish). I chose salford University as the course was a very modern course - unlike the tradtional courses of places such as Oxbridge where literature is the main basis of many parts of the course. During my time at Salford, I learned much about translation and interpretation and also spent a year abroad. The first six months I spent in Granada, Spain, as an au pair and then the University found me a job as a secretary in France for my second stint. I would truly recommend Salford if you want to go somewhere with a modern and practical outlook to courses.... Read review

Well, yes, there is a surprise as some contemporary dictionaries of modern design are very badly designed, mistaking modern design for inappropriate type fonts and garish colours, which does distract and detract from the message they are trying to put over. But this is not the case, thank goodness, with the Oxford Dictionary of Modern Design. It is exceptionally well laid out and the information contained is presented in a way that is sharp and contemporary, yet grounded in commonsense and best practice. Advantages: Good read
Disadvantages: slow to start

...This is a modern day classic, set in a post apocolyptic america, it follows the exploints of a wanderer. The book bears no resemberlance to the dire kevin costner film of the same name. As with all of Brins books, it is slow to start off with and then becomes more engrossing as you get further into the book, untill finally you cannot put the book down untill you get to the end. This is one of Brins best stand alone novels and is a good start before you read his uplift trilogies.... Read review

Advantages: 5 Class non-blockbuster films
Disadvantages: Not for the easily pleased!

...I wanted to talk about 5 films that I love that may not appeal to everyone but then thats another reason to love them, in no particular order they are : La Haine - An urban drama set in a modern paris ghetto, detailing a day in the life of 3 young men, this film is fantastic in showing how hopeless modern life can seem and how the people can be destroyed just because of their race or creed. Fight Club - Intense, provocative, visually stunning and truly questions what is modern life all about? Brad Pitt and Ed Norton are amazing, a real modern classic. The Big Blue - Luc Besson stunner, about two men and their love for a gorgeous woman, and the sea, the photography is stunning and the story is just as beautiful. Requiem for a Dream - Drug-addled view of the degeneration of the human spirit. Fantastic visuals, brilliant acting... Read review

The world's largest gallery of modern art, Tate Modern is housed in the old Bankside power station which had actually been in "mothballs" since the 1980's. It was the creation of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott - who was well known as the designer of Britain's red telephone box - and this new sister to the existing Tate Gallery was designed by Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron to be accessible from all four sides. ...After the Mark II being a failure to the green bottle Jaguar got smart and provided a fragrance for the young trendy but rich drivers. The “Special Edition” has a very nice modern melon and citrus scent. This is attracted to the more modern and fashionable men who are very weary of what they wear. This is a classy replacement of the Hugo Boss and Armani men. This fragrance has not been out long and I can see it doing very well with many different age groups. ...I love this country, I love the buildings and I love the culture, it is so original and historic but at the same time so modern. From day one to my last day I was always intrigued, I was shocked from the women and how modern and trendy they are. You can never get bored in this country, there is always something to do or try a new dish. For people who love technology they will find this place heaven and be able to play with all new stuff. For me personally I was more interested in what the nightlife had to offer and I was very pleased with its outcome.... Read review

...If your looking for good entertainment at a tradionally furnished but very modern cinema in central Edinburgh, you really can't do better than the Odeon Cinema on South Clerk Street. This cinema offers both the main Hollywood blockbusters and smaller independent films without the pretensiouness of the art-house cinema or the impersonal nature of a Multiplex. Both matinees and late night showings are common, the later being popular with the large number of students living locally. It has been renovated recently and is still stylishly furnished reflecting its 1930s exterior but with a range of modern amenities including a large bar and most importantly, comfortable seating.... ...Karl Jenkins became famous a few years ago with Adiemus. However, he has composed many more modern pieces, including Palladio. Many people will have heard it without knowing, as it has been used on the advert for Scottish Widdows, and a diamond advert. This beautiful piece for string orchestra is a definite must for any serious collection. The CD also features Adiemus variations, Passacaglia and String Quartet No. 2, all of which make interesting listening. The CD is worth buying just for Palladio alone, performed brilliantly by the London Philharmonic Strings. Highly recommended.... Read review
