FLY MONARCH
Advantages: excellent service, staff, food
Disadvantages: hard to get out of seats when everybody's food trays are down
...Well, my holiday to Zakynthos (Zante) has given me plenty to write about over the next few days! After telling you about my holiday as a whole, it's time to give the airline that got me there and brought me back, the Simmer treatment... And since they insisted on bringing me back, my review may not be too good! ;o)
~*~
CHECKING IN & BOARDING
Where the excitement and anticipation begins for anybody about to jet off on their holidays!! Since my family has developed a policy of getting to the airport extremely early, we were treated to an brilliantly short check-in queue at Manchester Airport. But, I sincerely doubt that this lasted for very long.
Monarch insist on having numerous desks, all labelled as check-in for 'All Monarch Flights'. I'd imagine that as the day goes on, this could get extremely inconvenient, especially...

Never go longhaul with Monarch
Advantages: It gets you to your destination
Disadvantages: Cons customers, horrendous customer service, bad food, too many to list here
...BACKGROUND
In Jan 2006 we booked a holiday with Thomas Cook, due to some work being carried out on the beach where we were staying they advised us to cancel our holiday with a full refund and book something else. Top marks for Thomas Cook. However, this happened three weeks before we were due to fly out. The travel agent gave us a choice of three places we could change our holiday to and we chose to go to Playacar in Mexico. The holiday was with Cosmos and the flights were with Monarch.
BEFORE WE WENT
The time that we were due to fly out was just after the hang luggage restrictions had been put in place. We had been told that we were allowed to take 5kg extra hold luggage due to the hand luggage restrictions. My boyfriend is never one to chance anything and made me phone up the airline and the airport the night before flying to...

Monarch Airline-Low Cost Airline
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: none
...This is another low cost airline which I have used on a number of times and I have found reasonable in cost.
The website is very easy to use and informative to the costings of the various add-ons.
The staff are very friendly when you get to the airport and always want to please. Recently when my daughter flew to Malaga she found that her luggage was missing so when she spoke to a member of Monarch Airlines in Malaga they were straight away on to the problem and everything got sorted in less than 24 hours and they personally delivered her suitcase to where she was staying.
When we booked my daughter in it was a little confusing at Gatwick to know which queue to go to apart from that they were very quick at the booking in desk. The staff were very helpfull and even though it was very busy they still were very polite...

The Most Beautiful Glen In Scotland!
Advantages: Fantastic Scenery, Lots Of Wildlife
Disadvantages: The Midges, Difficult To Get To
...Glen Affric has been described by many writers of Scottish Books as "the most beautiful Glen in Scotland." It is a place that I have visited many times and having seen this place at first hand and also many other Glens in Scotland I will not try and dispute this claim.
THE LOCATION
Glen Affric lies on the A831 just 24 miles to the West of Inverness, 15 miles from Drumnadrochit, and 65 miles to the East of Fort William.
GLEN AFFRIC
Access to Glen Affric is via a single track Road that leaves the A831 at Fasnakyle Power Station near Cannich.
This Road initially follows the River Affric and then eventually runs alongside the shores of Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin. It is a dead end Road that continues for 5 miles so your return journey will be back along this same route.
Glen Affric is an example of one of the largest surviving...

Monarch Not
Advantages: Good Food
Disadvantages: No Legroom
...I came to be flying by Monarch Airlines after booking a holiday to Egypt with Cosmos (both these reviews to come later). As you can imagine it was quite a long journey departing from Manchester at 10.00 am and arriving in Egypt at about 5.30 p.m. our time. To do my review I’ve broken it down into the following sections the plane including legroom, the staff, in-flight meals etc, and entertainment.
PLANE INCLUDING LEGROOM
Outbound Flight
**** **** ****
On the outbound and returning flight we were in an Airbus A300-603R, my initial thought of the plane was that it was quite small looking and when I got inside I was not disappointed in spite of the fact the plane seats 361 people. We were in row 10 I say we were in row 10 meaning we were squashed into the row it seemed that legroom had been given over to an extra row...

A Reintroduction to Glen Campbell
Advantages: Classic songs sung beautifully, great instrumentalists and orchestra
Disadvantages: For me there really are none!
...Introduction
I grew up listening to the music of Glen Campbell as my father was a huge fan and had many of his albums back in the 60s and early 70s.
At that time, Campbell was at the peak of his success as a solo singer.
Born in Arkansas in 1936, Campbell began his musical career as a session guitarist and singer, appearing on many classic recordings of the era, including "Tequila" by the Champs and "You've Lost That Loving Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers. He toured with the Beach Boys and also played on "Pet Sounds".
My father frequently used to rave to me about how good a guitar player Campbell was when I was younger. In those days I didn't really appreciate his skills but its acknowledged these days that he is one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
When he broke out as a solo singer in the 1960s on the fabled...

Glen Or Glenda
Advantages: Unique, original, mysterious and deeply heartfelt.
Disadvantages: No decent DVD exists as of yet. Oh, and all that "Worst Film Ever" stuff.
...these films on their own terms (and I have been as guilty of the Smug as anyone).
Glen Or Glenda is perhaps the quintessential Edward D. Wood Jnr film. More so than Plan 9 From Outer Space, even, Glen Or Glenda seems to have spilled undiluted from Wood's mind onto the screen, with no compromise, no concessions to any "audience demand" standing in the way of the man's vision.
The film tells of both Glen (played by Wood), a closet transvestite (although he does wander the streets in female apparel as "Glenda") and Alan, soon to become Anne following a sex-change operation. The secondary narrative does perhaps stand as SOMETHING of a concession to the studio's demands (Ed was hired to make an exploitation picture called I Changed My Sex, not the deeply personal I Wear Women's Clothing fever-dream that resulted), but the bulk...

Manky money grabbing Monarch
Advantages: not many
Disadvantages: quite a few
...Monarch airlines and the kids and I were looking forward to our trip to Italy flying out of Gatwick airport. Earlier in the year we had used Ryan air to fly to Rome and had enjoyed a cheap and cheerful flight. Having booked through a package travel company I had not had any choice in the airline and my experiences of charter airlines have been limited but usually good.
Because we booked though a travel company I'm unable to offer an opinion on the quality of the booking process with Monarch although flights can be booked direct from their website.
Check in was efficient helped by the fact that we arrived a full hour before the advised check in time and there was no one ahead of us in the queue, there was an initial problem with our seats as we were placed in a row where no children were allowed however this was quickly resolved...

A Scottish Treat
Advantages: Light hearted drama to brighten dreary Sunday evenings
Disadvantages: The series is over at present and not back on until Autumn
...Monarch of the Glen is set in the fictious area of Scotland known as Glenbogle, and the story line centres around the life of the new Laird Archie, who took over when his father retired.
It is generally an upbeat programme, featuring various madcap schemes (usually involving the new Lairds father) or disasters with the occasional serious plots thrown in.
Archie has come from London and has had problems adjusting to the rural life and running a Scottish estate that is guzzling money. The poor guy has lost his fiance who could not come to terms with life as a Lairds wife - too remote and no shopping!
There is romance in store for Archie of course in the form of a buxom primary school teacher who adores the rugged Scottish scenery. Of course she and Archie were pals before he headed off for school, university and London - so...
