Monitor Audio does it again... Wow!!

Owners view on the Cambridge Audio A1 Intergrated amplifier

Advantages: great clarity, can recognise delicate sounds, for the price its unbeatable!
Disadvantages: it wont break any windows in terms of volume! it lacks any digital input!

...For a budget amplifier you get oodles of clarity! its punchy, and delivers the most delicate of high frequencies too.... i have paired it up with an old pair of Kef Cresta 3's and have used several diffent speakers and different cables.... the first lot of cable i tried was specially handmade gold in, silver out @ £600 per meter! and the current cable is cheapy £2 bell type wire, and to be honest, it made very little difference in the quality... maybe a tad clearer, but nothing vastly notable).. so as another plus, it will make a very low budget system sound very good! so positives are amazing sound quality, from bassy club music to delicate classical, it delivers all with a convincing realism, and thats using a standard cd player on my pc! its bass is very punchy if need be and is quite apparent even at low volumes!!! clarity is...

...I own a Musical Fidelity a3.5 Amp & Cd player and decided to upgrade my speakers to get the most out of my system. I went to Super-fi and Sevenoaks to hear what they had. I was immediately frawn to the Monitor Audio delection by these little speakers, but when i saw the price tag of £800 i thought they were overprices, especially seeing as they are only bookshelves. after tyring out some B&W 603 speakers i felt a little disapointed by the lack of detail and crisp-ness of hi-hat reproduction. I chose one of my favourite songs Nickelback - Someday as the song i would use to test all the different speakers. It is important that you use the same kit that you have when trying out speakers, because the amp, cd player, interconnects, speaker cables and mains cable can make a differnece. i have QED silver spiral interconnects...

The Cambridge Audio A1 MK3 - Sounds?

Advantages: Design, black finish, sleek, modern
Disadvantages: The Cambridge Audio name outways the product in this instance

...This amplifier looks like a bargain, with a price tag at Richer Sounds for around about £85 and the Cambridge Audio brand name attached to it, it must be, mustn't it? Not really, no - as good as it looks in the window, when I took it home and used it, the sound quality was not nearly as sharp as I would have hoped. I have a pair of great speakers and this amp wouldn't do them any justice. It has the regular bass and treble nobs on the front, a large volume nob, and a balance function, however you won't be able to turn the volume up passed a third as it then dissapointingly starts to distort! Reading magazines such as What Hi-Fi, and Which? leads you to believe that Cambridge Audio is a brand wherby you cannot go wrong in terms of sound quality. I think this amplifier is aimed at the student market, due to the fairly cheap price...

Monior Audio Silver RS-6

Advantages: Great for jazz, folk, unplugged instruments, vocals
Disadvantages: Not great for overdriven rock, big-band jazz

...I bought myself a pair of RS6's for audio (not home theater). Upstream elements are a Cyrus 6s CD player and the Cyrus 8vs2 integrated amplifier. Let me say upfront that I have a peculiar room shape and the speakers have only done 30 hrs. First impressions are that they sound very good with lighter recordings i.e. jazz quartets / quintets; acoustic blues and folk; vocals. The output is natural, revealing revealing and detailed. However I was less than impressed for heavier recordings of rock and jazz. I find the highs a bit bright and the lows not well defined. I hear bass notes a bit too loose and lines blurry. Both main and inter connect cables are Cyrus. The speakers are bi-amped. Let's hope 200 hrs of break in works....

Brilliant Bargain Bookshelf speakers

Disadvantages: Mid range could be more open

...the midrange but as noted, for around 200.00 this is a fantastic bargain. Both these and the new Wharfedale 10.1's illustrate the very best of what the budget speaker market has to offer and it's sure to impress. What also displays just how highly regarded these speakers is the fact that we have not witnessed a price drop. Which is also excellent news for those who are considering buying these now and perhaps selling them at a later date....

Sturdy, versatile audio/midi interface/surface

Advantages: well made and easy to use
Disadvantages: positioning of front and back ports can get cluttered

...Amongst audio interfaces this is unique for having both audio/midi ports as well as the light-up top knob and buttons. These can be asisgned to functions in a wide range of audio DAWs from Apple's Garageband to Logic and Cubase. The unit is simple to install and use although I did have to download the latest drivers for it to be recognised on a USB port. With two audio inputs, guitar and a microphone or other instruments can be quickly setup. The back plate includes MIDI in and out ports to complete the connectivity. Once connected it immediately offers high-end audio clarity and 3ms latency which ensures you hear straightaway the music you're playing. Although this unit is now a few years old, its sturdy construction and versatility make it a better option than the newer Guitar Rig Sessions 3 XE device....

...A few years ago I decided to purchase some studio monitoring speakers and was reccomended these speakers by some professional producers, and as a result I bought these speakers The sound is absolutely excellent, the sound properties can be altered on the speaker units themselves to deliver a completely flat sound no matter their proximity to the wall or the height at which they are positioned. The sound is very crisp and the bass is very punchy without being overpowering, all in a all a great asset to have in a studio. They can also be purchased with an accompanying subwoofer which can add to the experience, but is by no means essential. Cracking BR2s

Advantages: very detailed resolution but also warm sounding. Build, Looks, Cost, not fussy about positioning

...cd player with my favourite album, turnt the amplifier knob round to about 9o'clock and sat down to listen in. What you hear is very much beyond your expectations when you've paid a mere £180. You get a rich, room filling sound which simply emerses you. The bass is both incredibly powerful for cabinets of this size as well as very taut and disciplined, as mentioned before the detail from the higher end frequencies is phenomenal. You are left with an experience which is rich and warm, but incredibly detailed, and therefore a fully involved listen, it really does make you want to listen to your favourite cds a hell of a lot more often. As what hi-fi said when these speakers won the grouptest, you would probably have to spend twice as much on a pair of speakers to hear a fair improvement over these beautys.
