Sandals Montego bay

Advantages: Sandals in genuinely "All Inclusive", and oozes quality
Disadvantages: Jamaica seems festooned with hustlers

...I went to Sandals Montego Bay for 2 weeks in August 1997 for my honeymoon. It seemed pricey at first glance (it was about 3400 ukp for us both) but this turned out to be pretty good value for money. The food was excellent, there were at least 5 restaurants to choose from including a Chinese, an Italian and an A La Carte, all at least four courses. You could also pop along to Sandals Royal Jamaican or Sandals Inn for a change. Sandals Royal Jamaican has an excellent Indonesian restaurant you have to get to in a "traditional" Balinese boat, but it's well worth the effort. All of the staff did their best to give you a good holiday and the activities were enjoyable, though you weren't forced to join in. Austin Montego Sir? Not ruddy Likely!

Advantages: Good Vsibility, Nice Ride, Good looks, Economic
Disadvantages: Hear it Rust From 100 miles Away, Poor Electrical Connections

...not be making a re-call of earlier cars. The barstewards.....! Anyway, I checked with my dealer who said the parts could be bought for £70- a lot of money in those days. The job was never done! The handling of the car was adequate and and vice-free for a vehicle in this class and comfort was good. However, some people found the seats a little too firm. Brake-wise I couldn?t fault the Montego and there was never any problem with stopping ? even when fully loaded with caravan, bikes etc. The self-adjusting rear brakes, as usual, rarely self adjusted. In general the car was cheap to run and service, with spares costing little more than the equivalent Ford parts. Reliability: Basically there was none. Rover Montego. Brill? Or just a rustbucket??

Advantages: Great handling,good fuel economy,not bad looking
Disadvantages: Rust,rust,rust,and more rust!!!!!

...I owned my 'G' plate Montego for almost a year and went through a few thoughts in that time. I went from thinking it was a great car and wondered why there were so few people owning one, to thinking that it was just destined to be in a scrapyard from day one. My 'Monty' was the 1.6 LX model which gave a sunroof and electric windows for luxury. Central Locking was also thrown in. Common problems here were that one or more of the doors wouldnt lock/open as instructed. The sunroof would leak because of ill fitting rubbers. And the lecky windows would be slower than a week in jail!!! There is a few major problems with this old classic aswell. Cylinder heads blowing in the engine( I replaced two in the space of 16'000 miles) and water creeping into the boot. Now I can guess what you're thinking. "Water in the boot aint serious" WRONG...

Mo bay

...My father lives in Jamaica so i go out to visit him every other year or two. I love travelling and i enjoy being on a areoplane i have to admit the only thing i do dreed about the whole travelling experience is landing at Montego Bay airport after a 9 hour flight. Yes i'm more than thankful to have my feet on the ground and to have finally reached my destination but i find the whole process of going through the airport a nightmare. You'd think i would have got use to it the amount of times i done it but last years visit was the worse. I flew out with my two small children , partner. my mum my brother, his girlfriend and little boy. Once you get off the plane the first thing that hits you is the heat which is only expected as your coming from a cold country to a hot one. You have to walk what seems like miles to get to...

All You Need is Love......and Royal Treatment

Advantages: All Inclusive, laid back atmosphere, food and drinks
Disadvantages: 10 hour flight

Disadvantages: Airport, roads and COST!

...the Caribbean and it's Capitol is Kingston (South East of the island, fairly central). Montego Bay is located on the North of the island, and is also where the airport is situated. Righto, here's the nitty gritty: The airport has no air conditioning, so beware both arriving and departing! (believe me, with hundreds of other passengers squashed into the airport when we were leaving, it was NOT for the faint hearted!) On arrival, the airport staff take a very long time, to check your entry visas before letting you go on your merry way. Now, I KNOW the general ethos of Jamaica is 'No Problem' and the attitiude is very laid back, but after a 10 hour flight, sitting rigid in a space no larger than a cardboard BOX, I don't really appreciate laid backness!!! ...Anybody who has been lucky enough to go to Jamaica will be familiar with this saying, it seems to be the Jamaicans national catch phrase, and you know what? It’s usually true, nothing was too much trouble for the majority of Jamaicans we met when we stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. I say the majority because there was one or two incidents that went against this which I will tell you about later on in the review. It lasts forever and a day if looked after.

Advantages: cheap to run, reliablity,capable of 150,000 miles+
Disadvantages: Rust, Build Quality, poor motorway car.

...If you’re up for an irie time, visit Jamaica! We walked Waterfalls, swam with dolphins and had banana lessons! This holiday was a totally new experience, when booking our holiday we decided we wanted to go a bit further a field and after looking through piles of travel brochures decided on Montego Bay, Jamaica.
