Advantages: beautiful hotel, given a room with a terrace
Disadvantages: Out of season there isnt a huge amount to do

...flight; facing the main entrance was a lovely stained glass window, I've included a picture of this at the bottom of the review. I had phoned ahead to the hotel as we needed directions coming in through Montrose - they were more than helpful and pleasant and gave us the information that we required. Upon arriving at the hotel, the girl on the reception chatted away with us and we all had a chuckle together. She must have taken a shine to us because when she handed us the room key she told us she had given us a "special room" - Intriguing! ~~~~Rooms~~~~ There are twenty five rooms within The Links, all with different themes, names and décor. Our "special room" turned out to be one of the rooms with little private terraces attached. The terrace was great; it had a table and chairs and came in very useful in this non smoking room...

Been Here Since Noah Built The Ark

Advantages: A decent 3 star standard budget hotel. Popular with locals and tourists alike.
Disadvantages: A wee bit inaccessible

...When I first moved to Dublin almost 30 years ago the Montrose Hotel was one of the premier hotels in the city. Since then it has changed hands innumerable times, became dowdy and down at heel, then was refurbished and reinvented itself as a 3 star budget hotel equally popular with business clients and tourists. (Lots of tour buses!) The Montrose is located about 2 miles from the city centre, and is on the other side of a dual carriageway from the UCD campus, the largest University in the city. It's handy enough to get to it from the airport, as it's serviced by the Aircoach, a private bus service that will cost you about Euro8 per person. (One way) Alternatively, a taxi from the airport will cost you around Euro30 to Euro40; a good (and quicker) alternative for a party of four or more. It's handy enough to get a bus to town...

Advantages: Strong performances by a talented cast
Disadvantages: A bit more gratuitous violence than you'd want young children to witness

High Drama In The Highlands

Advantages: Good casting. Excellent performances. Stunning scenery.
Disadvantages: Perhaps a wee bit drawn out at 133 minutes.

Keeping all our balls in the air

...Our second daughter recently turned one and a family friend very generously presented us with the Vtech Discovery Tree. My initial dismay at yet another overly large garishly coloured platic montrosity was quickly replaced by relief as I watched my older daughter (who is nearly four) sit down for the first time with her little sister and properly play with her, working out how it worked. They both absolutely love it. All the five differently coloured balls are supposed to be different animals and bugs and each generate different tunes and animal noises. They also change the workings of the little keyboard at the bottom changing it from letters, to numbers to musical notes. The balls are pushed down through the top of the tree and whirl down the slide passing through the tree trunk and out a little door, over the keyboard...

Now even I, with my rudimentary economics, understand that if there's no supply it's because there's no demand. But why is there no demand? You could argue that plain chocolate is less popular for snack bars than milk, but there's plenty of Chocolate Creams available. Cadburys is a mass manufacturer so where are they all going? Are they destined for deep-frying somewhere à la Mars Bar? Where do I need to move to - Montrose, Manchester, Macclesfield, Monmouth?
