Advantages: beautiful hotel, given a room with a terrace
Disadvantages: Out of season there isnt a huge amount to do

...flight; facing the main entrance was a lovely stained glass window, I've included a picture of this at the bottom of the review. I had phoned ahead to the hotel as we needed directions coming in through Montrose - they were more than helpful and pleasant and gave us the information that we required. Upon arriving at the hotel, the girl on the reception chatted away with us and we all had a chuckle together. She must have taken a shine to us because when she handed us the room key she told us she had given us a "special room" - Intriguing! ~~~~Rooms~~~~ There are twenty five rooms within The Links, all with different themes, names and décor. Our "special room" turned out to be one of the rooms with little private terraces attached. The terrace was great; it had a table and chairs and came in very useful in this non smoking room...

Been Here Since Noah Built The Ark

Advantages: A decent 3 star standard budget hotel. Popular with locals and tourists alike.
Disadvantages: A wee bit inaccessible

...When I first moved to Dublin almost 30 years ago the Montrose Hotel was one of the premier hotels in the city. Since then it has changed hands innumerable times, became dowdy and down at heel, then was refurbished and reinvented itself as a 3 star budget hotel equally popular with business clients and tourists. (Lots of tour buses!) The Montrose is located about 2 miles from the city centre, and is on the other side of a dual carriageway from the UCD campus, the largest University in the city. It's handy enough to get to it from the airport, as it's serviced by the Aircoach, a private bus service that will cost you about Euro8 per person. (One way) Alternatively, a taxi from the airport will cost you around Euro30 to Euro40; a good (and quicker) alternative for a party of four or more. It's handy enough to get a bus to town...

The worst hotel in the UK? Possibly.

This was the private Tyrella hotel, a three storey Georgian white house, 5 minutes from the beach. The basement was an Indian restaurant which looked quite trendy. After ringing the bell several times, we were greeted by an unenthusiastic man with no shoes on who carried a distinctive whiff of curry and sweat about him. Several small children scurried at his feet. He appeared to have a very poor grasp of the English language and the displayed prices mysteriously increased. Any normal person would have major alarm bells ringing by now and would have politely declined, but who said we were normal, and besides, we were desperate. The UK's '4th coolest boutique hotel'

Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic
Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times

...I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels. First impressions: You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! We assumed that they would speak English but tried out our limited French anyway, along with our hilarious 'Allo 'Allo style accents. The Strand Palace Hotel

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

...My wife and I stayed at the Queens Hotel on a Saturday night, in mid-May. The hotel is quite modern, having been converted from an old warehouse in recent years, and is only 4 storeys high. It is right in the heart of the city centre, within the city walls, and is on the riverside overlooking the River Ouse. It stands directly opposite the Kings Arms pub, which is famous for getting flooded after prolonged periods of heavy rain. The Queens Hotel stands on Queens Staith, however because it has been fairly recently converted is designed not to be adversely affected by high water. As it is in the city centre there are loads of pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants, as well as 2 theatres, 2 cinemas, various museums, including the Jorvik Centre as well as the Minster etc. all within a few minutes stroll. ...When we decided to make a return trip to Benalmedina we opted to go to the four star Hotel Las Arenas as it was recommended by friends. It is slightly further out just opposite the Castle Bill Bill and when you cross the road it?s a flat walk all the way to the marina which is away from the large hills on which many of the other hotels are located. Reception On arrival check in was swift and at this time we opted to pay for a safety deposit box we were then handed the safe key and card key to room 524 and pointed in the direction of the lifts.
