I have long been a fan of Irish music, and a fan of protest songs, from John Lennon to The Clash, so it is fair to say that I have a fair collection of Irish protest music, some of which has a distinctly anti-British feel. Before anyone slates me for writing a review of well known IRA sympathisers' songs, many of which are very supportive of the IRA cause, let me say this. Like it or not, there has been a conflict between the British and Irish for hundreds of years, and the troubles of the 70's and 80's were not new. It was inevitable that songs would be written, and inevitable that whoever wrote them would have a subjective slant. ...The latest book to head my way is none other than 'RSPV', written by author Tara Moore. Now when I first saw the book I had no idea what it was going to be like. I had never heard of Tara Moore before so her style was going to be completely new to me. However, the cover of the book itself is incredibly attractive. All we see is the neck and lower face of a woman, with a large glittering necklace around her neck. Now for ages I thought this read 'RSUP', and it wasn't until I went to find out more about the author before reading did I realise that this necklace actually read 'RSVP'. With that embarrassment out of the way, I was truly looking forward to reading. The book tells the story of fiancées Rossa Granville and Ashling Morrison. Advantages: Local. Large old house but modern. Charismatic.
Disadvantages: You are best having a car with you.

...The Moorings Hotel has been a fixture in Motherwell since I was very young, and generations have always enjoyed staying, eating and partying there. The main house was custom built in 1891 for Archibald Colville, the son of one of Scotland's foremost steel dynasties, and have sympathetically upgraded and extended to provide all the comfort and style one would expect from a three star Hotel. Most recent addition is the new bar and lounge area a few years ago - and at this exact moment builders are on site adding decking for a 'beer garden'. Advantages: Children can burn off some energy, dogs are welcome and cyclists, great views.

We Want Moore...

Advantages: imaginative celtic rock.
Disadvantages: dont expect the Gary Moore of the blues days.

...Gary Moore became best known for his blues period in the 1990s but we should remember that he has moved through a wide range of musical styles, all based in the rock format, but all with very distinct flavours. After learning his trade with Skid Row and a brief stint with the young Thin Lizzy, as well as recording as the Gary Moore Band, the guitarist spent a number of years in Jazz rock band Colosseum II. Following that solo albums and another stint with Thin Lizzy resulted in the now famous Black Rose album, and the single Parisiene Walkways. A long on off friendship with Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott comes to an end with Lynotts death in 1986, and this album was released the following year. a very amazing singer named mandy moore aka amanda leigh

Advantages: some really great songs like mermac river and very different from competition

...Amanda Leigh the tittle name of the album is actually Mandy Moores real name. She's not your typical Pop artist and she does not try to be.In fact in this album she tries not to have you r typical Pop sound most of the songs are acoustic with the exception of Track number three called I could break yopur heart any day of the week.I have had mixed feelings about her album and for me its been 50/50 some of it I have liked and some of the song I think will slowly Grow on me. My favorite song off the album is Merrimack River which is an acoustic song which I could listen to unlimited amount of times. It is very sad that she has not done a lot better with her albums Her album sales are not in the same league as Britney Spears or Christina Agulera. Her album is very hard to find in music stores so my advice is That you order it from amazon...

The Second Wives Club by Jane Moore

Advantages: Excellent characters, wanted to find out what happens to them
Disadvantages: none

...still has pictures everywhere of Caitlin and her parents visit a lot and Susan feels she will never live up to the exacting standards they expect. She feels taken for granted and wonders whether her partner really loves her or just has grown used to having her around. I felt the characters were so well written and I really got to know them and after finishing it, was kind of disappointed because you want to find out what happens to them through the rest of lives. It was a good ending and not what I expected when I first started reading. The book was amusing and had funny moments but also you felt the wives frustrations and sadness when things weren't going so well. I shall be looking out for more of Jane Moore's book and can highly recommend this one. I imagine if you've been a second wife in any of these situations it would be...
