Looks and performs better than you'd expect

...Just purchased the 309i from Richer Sounds and my first impression was it looks much better in person than it does on the pictures.. Its a very solid looking Sub and is much larger than you may think... The actual driver on the unit is also very slick and tidy looking... So as far as looks go, you will definitely not be disappointed.. When i comes to sound, i don't believe there are any Subs on the market that will offer you as much oooph for your money... The maximum power output is actually 360W (stated on the back of the Sub) and i believe the RMS is either 175W or 200W.. It literately only took me 5 min to set up the Sub but i was slightly baffled as to why there was no 'Sub' ports on the back, however Mordaunt just advise you to use the Left 'Line In' port instead, which worked fine.. ...I can't begin to descirbe how much i like these speakers. The sound quality is incredibly clear. Very occasionally, older/lower quality recordings can sound a bit nasal, but this is not an issue. Everything from Led Zeppelin to Madonna is reproduced with almost frightening clarity and realism. These speakers sound incredibly open and warm, and are incredibly musical Bass is something that Mordaunt Short have always done very well. These speakers go down to 55Hz, although in-room this is far lower. The bass is very flexible, yet still dry. Review of Mordaunt Short Premiere Home Cinema Speaker Package

Brilliant speakers, quirky appearance

Advantages: Looks, excellent sound quality
Disadvantages: Looks, price may put some off

...speaker cones, yet another selling point I feel! The volume control is another nice feature, it is completely touch sensitive, however you do need to be gentle with it, as the volume does begin to increase exponentially if you hold your finger on it for more than around 3secs, and these speakers can get surprisingly loud! There is marginal sound adjustment available to the user, with both bass and treble controls on the subwoofer, although most users will probably find one setting that suits their rooms acoustic, and stick with it. Overall, if you're looking for speakers to connect to your Hi-Fi, then go with some Mordaunt Shorts, but if you're looking for a general purpose multimedia speaker set, with great sound and looks, then these fit the bill nicely....

Teac reference 300 - best mini system under £1000

Advantages: Great Sound, Great Looks, Great Price

.... The MkIII model has been accoustically re-engineered to make it more in line with European manufacturers sound and is far superior to the Arcam and Denon systems I tried. Tested through Mordaunt Short 902is and Gale Gold Monitors, the sound through either puts more expensive systems to shame. The 902i's are the better matched option but the Gales are preety close and a fair bit cheaper. Get some decent interconnects though as the standard bell wire cables don't do it justice and a pair of reaonably priced Monster of Ixos cables significantly improves the clarity and detail. All in all a good looking, great sounding system at a bargain price...

...of you that dont know..Musical Fidelity is a English firm who take pride on making their products excellent value for money. Their amps are certainly top end items but the price tag is ultimately far easier to swallow than some of the products out their. This amp has received some fab reviews from the pros and I am sure will continue to do so. I run the amp through some Mordaunt Short Advant 908 floorstanders and the sound is fantastic. I use a old Dual CS 5000 turntable. For those of you interested in price then let me tell you the amp is not cheap but comes at a price more than worth paying. The Musical Fidelity ethos has always been something along the lines of , "Why pay through the nose when we can create something outstanding for less than other high end products." So in short the amp will currently cost around the £1499 mark. But...

KEF Coda 70s speakers take rear guard action
