Stranger In Moscow

Advantages: A unique and interesting experience, some fascinating sights
Disadvantages: Can be a confusing and not as beautiful as most European capital cities

...General Impressions Let me start this review by saying nothing in Moscow is easy. We spent a great deal of time in confusion! This is partly because of the language barrier. In France, Italy or Spain you can make out at least some of the written word or you find you actually remember something from school after all. Russian cyrillic is, however, incomprehensible to the English eye. Then there's the fact that Moscow isn't really set up for tourists at all. Nobody "tells" you anything. Nothing is signposted or explained. For example there did not appear to be a single sign pointing to the Lenin Mausoleum (and I wish I could tell you where he was now, but I still don't know, we never found him), the metro stations are often unmarked and unsigned and there is nothing explaining the three different types of ticket that can be bought...

Get a job!

Advantages: local authorities use the same forms - this can help you save time.
Disadvantages: time consuming, a lot of effort, has to be tailored to each school

...The application process for teaching jobs is a bit of a hassle but it is important to get it right. I now have successful secured my first teaching job and wanted to share what I have learnt about the application process and how to be successful. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Looking for jobs ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Whether you are looking for primary or secondary school jobs, the best place to start your search is the TES (Times Educational Supplement). Whilst the paper version gives the same jobs, it is best to use their website as you can search for jobs in specific areas, departments, age ranges etc. Decide on where in the country (or world!) you want to work. Some areas have more jobs than others so be prepared to widen your search. At the moment there are very few teaching jobs coming up in Wales, yet...

Review of Applying for Teaching Jobs

the bank job

Advantages: some parts of the film are interesting to watch
Disadvantages: No jokes, no nudity, no real action.

...a loan shark criminal gangster to terrorise victims and get his job done. Its a British film, based on a true story supposedly. It's the true story of the 1971 Baker Street bank robbery. The film highlights the criminal backgrounds of the robbers, and the people behind the robbery as criminals, drug traffickers, brothel owners and prostitution participants in one form or another. The film also illustrated the civil rights movement using screenames such as Michael X and Hakeem as obvious civil rights leading figures during this movement in world history. What happens basically a woman with the screen name Martine and Terry and his friends from London get involved in a misleading attempt at a bank robbery where it is suggested that nothing will go wrong, The London based gang are led to believe that money is the only motive behind...

Money Job?

Advantages: Some decent beats
Disadvantages: Wack lyrics

...?Money Job? came as an early 2009 mixtape from the rapper Arab (pronounce A-Rab). Long-time friend to Soulja Boy (Tell ?Em), he appeared on his debut album and the pair worked together prior to this as Dem 30/30 Boyz before Soulja Boy blew up as a solo artist in 2007, yet Arab remained by his side at all times and remained signed to the artists S.O.D. (Stacks On Deck) Money Gang label. This mixtape features work from as early as 2006 up to 2009 with him showing what he is personally capable of. 1. ?Comin?? (Intro) 2. ?Pass To Arab? After warming up the set, you see that things lead into a track that was found on Soulja Boy?s debut when Arab was Arab finally able to show his own potential. I felt that it was a fairly strong tune (considering that it was recorded prior to Beezy?s signing to Interscope) and so although it has some...

Job Centre fiasco

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Too many to mention

...Very briefly as the wife of a man who was made redundant the thought of the Job Centre plus being helpful no longer exists. As a mortgage holder and family with two school age children my husband was only entitled to Job Seeks Allowance (JSA). This was paid for 26 weeks and then after still not successful in securing employment, this was stopped. Because I work more than 20 hours a week (I am still only part time) I am expected to support the family and bills. My husband has never been asked how much I earn. This assessment is merely done of the hours I work and not the take home pay coming into the home. Having never claimed any benefits at all before this (but we are in a recession as you all know) we enquired about training and extra help, but, alas, there was no entitlement apparently. As you only receive 5 minutes...

Moscow - Must Go.

Advantages: A unique cultural experience which you will never forget. A high "WOW!" factor.
Disadvantages: Without local knowledge or a grasp of the language, it could possibly be pretty intimidating

...One of my biggest regrets is never having to been to Berlin whilst the wall was up. Amanda, my wife, once managed to visit East Berlin - with no papers - but that's a different story! Since the demise of Communism, I've been behind the former Iron Curtain twice. On this occasion, we visited Moscow. There's a lot to say about Moscow and I won't be able to say it all here, naturally - but I'll do my best to give an informative glimpse of this fantastic city. I can't comment on hotels because we're lucky enough to have friends who own a flat in Moscow, and that's where we stayed. Let me try to tempt you, anyway! I guess the first thing to say is that the currency is a little confusing - in the sense that you're never quite sure whether to use US dollars or Russian roubles. Most of the time it's fairly obvious but it helps if you...

Review of Moscow in general

Moscow - the practicalities

Advantages: Fascinating city, diverse mix
Disadvantages: Expensive, arbitary opening hours, queues

...If you want a review to romance about Moscow and tell you about the glistening streets of the Arbat, you'll have to go elsewhere, because this review is aimed at telling you more practical hints for going to Moscow. I only went for 5 days, so there will be lots of places that went unexplored but it's also a good amount of time to see all the major sites. We flew with BA into Domodedovo airport and made the decision to take a taxi into the city. There is a train as well which takes about 45mins and which stops at a railway station out in the West. But we booked a cab at one of the stalls and it cost us about £20. Not cheap but ok. We stayed at the Radisson SAS Slayvanskaya, which is supposed to be a 5* hotel but wasn't extremely luxurious. It was quite expensive at £100 a night but we wanted to have an International Brand name...

Wembley Job Centre

Advantages: By signing on every 2 weeks you get some money.
Disadvantages: The staff are not very well trained.

...My experience at Wembley Job centre I am 47 years old and have never claimed a penny in benefits in my life. I have worked since I was 17 only taking 6 months maternity leave for each of my 2 children. When I was made redundant on 6th July 2008, the last thing on my mind was signing on for job seekers allowance. However as time went on and it was clear I was not going to be able to get another job that easily I realised I would have to claim job seekers allowance in order to help us pay the bills and eat each month. I first registered my claim on or around the 9th September. I called the free phone number to register the claim and I found them very helpful and efficient. (or so I thought at the time) They made me an appointment to see an advisor at Wembley Job centre on 17th September. As I walked into the building in St...

Hotel Pekin Moscow

Advantages: Central
Disadvantages: Its a dump

...Hotel Pekin Moscow I have read many reviews on this hotel & most of them are bad... very bad. I was there September 2007 & the staff are terrible. I have never been treated with such utter contempt. Not one person will help you. They are utterly useless & often aggressive. I booked my room in advance. I faxed the details, they faxed my confirmation with room cost & reservation number. I confirmed all this by email but when I got there a few days later they knew nothing of my reservation, I showed them their own fax & they still had no clue. After staying two days they decided to put the rate up & the manager told me 'Give me that paper' when I showed her the fax. When I complained this was insane to put the cost up after we had agreed the rate, she just started making out going phone calls & glared at me. To add to the prison camp...

The Italian Job

Advantages: action and entertainment
Disadvantages: far cry from the origanal

...the 21st century, as is the storyline and the hi tech gadgets that are used to pull off the bullion robbery. The new style Mini Cooper, (which aren't so mini anymore) are re-introduced, racing again through the sewers and the subway systems after bringing L.A. to a complete gridlock. There are a few similarities between the '69 movie and this remake but the main movie is totally different. I suppose if this movie was given a different title I may have enjoyed it more as I was constantly comparing it to the original, so this spoiled it slightly for me as I was totally lost as to why this was called 'the Italian Job'?? considering most of the car chases and the action was in Los Angeles?? Maybe they should have called it 'The L.A. Job? with the stuff we nicked from Italy'..?? Don't get me wrong, this is an action packed movie...
