Subsequently I read the reviews presented here and regarded the matter with some trepidation as I expected the firm to 'throw the book at me' and put me under pressure for unnecessary repairs. I examined my car carefully before taking it in, and noted some items that would not fail the MOT but might be the subject of advisory items.
My car passed the MOT and the advisory items that I expected were mentioned together with others that I had not noticed previously. I came under no pressure whatever to have anything put right, and left without booking the car for remedial work. I sat in the reception area while the MOT was being carried out, and noticed that other customers were treated in a manner that was similar to the treatment I received.

...Recently took my 3 year old Ford KA to Kwikfit in Morley for it's first MOT.
I went to pick the car up after the hour and half they told me and the gentleman in the office told me that the car had initially failed due to the headlights needing realigning. He quoted that 'they didn't want to bother me' so they did the work without consulting me and the cost would be £25.00 please.
I am no car mechanic, but realigning headlights does not sound too tricky and £25 seems like a lot. When I questioned it I was told that was the price and I would have to pay it to get the MOT. Excellent service and manners!
As soon as I got home I emailed the Kwikfit customer services and on the Monday morning I rang 3 other Kwikfit garages to ask the cost of headlight realignment and they all quoted £10.00.

...I checked my vehicle; a BMW 740i into my local 'Kwik-Fit' station based at Abbeyforegate in Shrewsbury on Friday the 7th of November 2008 for an annual M.O.T. test, which was subsequently tested and failed by Mr. Julian Inns.
I was advised at the time that the reason for failure was due to a rear suspension arm having too much play, I asked there and then for a price of replacement and fitting to fall in line with 'Kwik-Fits' re-testing timeline policy. I was advised first of all that the part, including fitting would be approx. £50.00 but when a call in my presence was made to their supplier, questions were asked over which suspension arm would be required, a shouted message across the services bays was return with you need a straight one, this was then re-quoted at £110.00 including fitting, apparently the £50.00 quoted by...

...My mum purchased the Carl Lewis MOT20 Running Machine over a year ago for our entire families use, and to be honest with it, I have been fairly disappointed.
We bought it on eBay and paid £100 for it, and we thought we had a bargain. Initially, we were very pleased with our purchase, but unfortunately it has not lived up to our expectations.
It is a very basic running machine, and looks quite old, dated and clumsy. It is fairly large and is a pain to move around and fit into small gaps. There are definitely better quality running machines out there on the market at a better 'value for money price'.

...As an AA member I was lured by using Nationwide Autocentre to do an MOT on my Ford Escort since I get a discount, this discount was soon to be claimed back.
I booked my car in on their website for an MOT test, when I arrived with my car the garage had no idea that I was due and blamed the system for not telling them.
The car was booked in and I was phoned with the result of the test to be told it had failed. It had failed for:
2 x Corroded brake pipe.
Brake Hose.
Total cost? £270 to fix.
Having a look under my Escort it was evident that the brake pipes just needed greasing. I then took the car into my local Ford branch and it passed with them noting the brake hose could do with a little attention.
Total ford cost? £20.
A total bunch of cowboys, avoid this chain....

I was a bit sceptical when buying Mot Test Insurance by the vauxhall dealer, but i was told "it was a bargain for £35" so just a year passed I thought to myself what the hell I'll just take it.
It covers up to £750 of repairs on your Mot, although there are exclusions e.g bodywork, corrosion and wear and tear. It has to be bought 6 months before Mot is due, the car has to be less than 8 years old and less than 80,000 miles.
The car is getting on a bit now, shes not as young as she used to be. 1997 Vectra, and I didnt spend a penny in the last Mot so though this years would need a few things doing.
