Lots of Bunnykins running round this bowl

...I was looking for a set of crockery for a new baby and recalled the Bunnykins ones my daughter had as a birth present. The Royal Doulton company was formed in 1853 went into receivership in January this year 2009. I am sure Bunnykins products will still be made though. ...Charrington Bowl is a bowling alley owned by Hollwood Bowl. It has 32 lanes attached with bumpers for kids and a large number of different weighted bowling balls. There is also a café serving hot and cold food all-day, a bar, games arcade and bowling shop which sells a selection of bowling equipment and accessories. I have been to charrington bowl many times because it is a short drive from my house and whenever I have been I've had a good experience. The lanes are in good condition and have electronic scoring and technicians on hand if anything goes wrong or your ball gets stuck etc. The staff are all very friendly. My Moulinex manual mixer

Advantages: Inexpensive, comfortable grip, effective, long-lasting
Disadvantages: Slight difficulty cleaning vents

...I bought my Moulinex hand-mixer around five years ago, for about £10. Previously I had had larger mixers, the kind that come with a stand and a bowl. However I had found some distinct disadvantages with this type of mixer: for one thing, they either take up a great deal of space on the kitchen work surfaces, or get packed away in a cupboard and then it's a nuisance to get them out. Then there's the problem that only one bowl (that supplied with the mixer) will fit the base, so if I wanted to mix two or three things in separate bowls, I had to keep decanting what was already mixed, and cleaning the bowl out. And if the bowl breaks, the mixer becomes useless, unless you can find a replacement. With some mixers it's possible to remove the main mechanism from the stand, and use it as a hand-held one, but I never found that this worked...

The Golden Bowl - the film version of the Henry James novel

Advantages: Attention to period detail, good work with costume accuracy
Disadvantages: Poor dialogue, too long, badly produced in my view

...The Golden Bowl is a film released in 2000, based on the book written at the turn of the twentieth century by Henry James. The film lasts for 130 minutes, and my review is based on the DVD. In essence, the plot is that Prince Amerigo marries Maggie Verver, the daughter of Adam Verver. However Amerigo is in love with Verver's best friend, Charlotte Stant. There are some really good actors in the film, Jeremy Northam plays Amerigo, who I thought was a superb Sir Thomas More in the US Tudors series. Maggie is played by the beautiful and talented actress Kate Beckinsale, Nick Nolte plays her father in the film, and Uma Thurman, who I remembered from her roles in Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, plays Stant. Moulinex multi moulinette - Kitchen magic!!

Advantages: Simple to use, value for money.
Disadvantages: can omly take small quantities.

...I have owned a moulinex multi moulinette (AT71) for several years and would say it was the most useful kitchen gadget I have ever owned. It is small compact gadget which takes very little space. I use it for all my chopping and blending jobs when preparing food. It holds up to 0.5 litre of fluid, up to 16oz dry ingredients or aprox 2 cups. Great for making breadcrumbs for your gratins, chopping vegetables, making savoury spreads,pureeing fruit, blending soup or I even use mine for grating cheese! It is extremely simple to use literally a press of a button, and as all ingredients are in a sealed bowl there is no mess from splashing etc.. It is easy to clean afterwards as all 3 parts (except for the electrical unit!) can be dishwashed or immersed in warm soapy water for cleaning. I have recently replaced my multi moulinette for around £30...
