I've Mastered this Juicer

...Getting a Juicer had often come up for discussion in our house but there was usually some reason that the particular model was rejected, either it was too expensive, or too big - or it came at a time when fruit was particularly expensive. When we saw the Moulinex JuiceMaster Duo, with it's 200 watt motor, it seemed just right for our needs. It was reasonably compact, reasonably inexpensive and also had the added advantage of having a centrifugal juicer with an interchangeable citrus press. The appearance is rather pleasing and, being not too large; it fits into a much smaller space than a lot of others. It measures approximately eight inches (approx. 20cm) in diameter and stands about eleven inches (approx. 28cm) high including the funnel. Review of Moulinex Juice Master DUO

Instant Juice!

Advantages: Healthy and produces a very taste drink
Disadvantages: Bit inconvenient

...I am not a huge fan of kitchen gadgets so when I received a Moulinex BKA14A Juicemaster Junior Juice Extractor as a gift I was not overly impressed. I do sometimes enjoy a glass of fresh orange juice first thing in the morning, but this is usually straight out of one those cardboard cartons. I don't have time to mess about in a morning crushing twenty pieces of fresh fruit to get half a glass of fresh juice, or so I thought. My Moulinex manual mixer

Advantages: Inexpensive, comfortable grip, effective, long-lasting
Disadvantages: Slight difficulty cleaning vents

...I bought my Moulinex hand-mixer around five years ago, for about £10. Previously I had had larger mixers, the kind that come with a stand and a bowl. However I had found some distinct disadvantages with this type of mixer: for one thing, they either take up a great deal of space on the kitchen work surfaces, or get packed away in a cupboard and then it's a nuisance to get them out. Then there's the problem that only one bowl (that supplied with the mixer) will fit the base, so if I wanted to mix two or three things in separate bowls, I had to keep decanting what was already mixed, and cleaning the bowl out. And if the bowl breaks, the mixer becomes useless, unless you can find a replacement. With some mixers it's possible to remove the main mechanism from the stand, and use it as a hand-held one, but I never found that this worked...

Innocent or not so innocent smoothies

Advantages: Fresh healthy fruit juice

First came the fiddly bit, cutting up the fruit into small enough pieces to insert into the funnel at the top of the juicer. The pieces do need to be fairly small as the funnel is quite small, but you do not need to peel oranges etc. I did peel kiwi fruit as I just couldnt fancy introducing brown furry skin into my juice. A quick press of the switch and the juicer whirred into action and juice started to drip out of the spout into the jug I had placed underneath to catch it. All the pips pith etc...

Tesco Value Juice - Juice Yourself!

Advantages: Cheap product, pretty good taste, smooth, recyclable carton.
Disadvantages: It's not Tropicana is it!

...I purchased this product instead of my normal Tropicana saving myself almost £1.50 on a 1 litre carton. This product is 56p a litre at present and is an absolute bargain! It is basic packaging, a standard juice carton with the Tesco value logo all over it and telling you that it is orange juice made from concentrate. Upon opening the carton there is a slight chemical smell but you can also smell oranges which is obviously a good start! The juice is smooth with absolutely no bits and looks a little watery when poured out in a glass. The juice smells just like oranges once out of the carton. When tasting the product I notice that it is indeed very smooth and has an almost sour kick to it, if you have a mouth ulcer this is definitely not the product for you! It does not taste completely like oranges, there is a slight after taste...

... Background: When I was a child Apple juice was always in my household and especially to me considered a luxury. We only had it when we were on holiday as a starter before our main breakfast. These days I enjoy a glass most nights with my dinner, my how times change. Value Apple Juice: A one-litre carton of pure Apple Juice can cost up to £1.93 in my local Tesco?s. However I have recently started to economise and have been experimenting with the Tesco Economy Apple Juice that currently costs just 56p. This type of Apple Juice is made solely by Tesco. Admittedly not as cheap as the Value Orange Juice they also make but are not currently sold in the same high volumes either. Packaging: I am very pleased to say that Tesco have improved their packaging of all their Value range in the last few months...

Review of Tesco Value Pure Apple Juice

A great juice drink.

Advantages: Tasty, good for you, nice colour

...I love fruit juice and I always like to try new flavours so when I saw Pomegreat on sale it really caught my eye. The packaging is yellow and a kind of deep burgundy/red and manages to look both retro and modern and the same time. Upon further examination of the, (recyclable), carton I notice the logo for H.E.A.R.T. UK - The Cholesterol charity and "assumed" that the juice would help those with a cholesterol problem, (the other half recently had a test following his Dad's triple bypass operation and discovered he has inherited the problem), so I popped a carton in the trolley. After I got this home and read the packaging, (no small feat - it is covered with text), I discovered that Pomegreat made no specific claims about the benefits for your health or your cholesterol. At £3.00 for 250ml I thought it wasn't too expensive and if it didn't work, as so many different products I've tried didn't, well at least I hadn't wasted too much money.
