A "mountain" climb to the best!

Advantages: Easy listening, fulfilling, comforting
Disadvantages: Repetitive, predictable, too many ballads

The introductary drumming of this songs gets you into the album to start with but drops to slowness and then really belts into the song in true feel-good factor style!! This song goes up and down from ballad to up-beat all the way through but doesn't disappoint. The song tells the story about how "the good Lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb" - facing the tough times in life and beating them! This is a song to start the album. 2. Nothing to prove This song starts off slow then finds its beat. The lyrics are fast in comparison to the beat but is an ok "slow" song to sing along to. ...Having taken the cable car up several years ago, every time I have been to Cape Town since (yearly) I have talked about climbing it, but never actually got round to it. Now, six months since I quit smoking and started exercising, there were no more excuses so off we went. You drive up to the cable car station, and then park somewhere in that area (you'll be grateful you did when you get back down!) Sludge rock

Advantages: A good hard rock album
Disadvantages: A bit heavy for most people, I fear

...Formed in New York in 1969, Mountain were signed to Columbia (CBS in the UK) and this, their first album was put down that year and released early in 1970. Leslie West (guitar, vox) Felix Pappalardi (bass, vox) Corky Laing (drums) and Steve Knight (keyboards) recorded a riff-heavy LP complete with fuzzy bass that when played loud, as it should be as stated on the back cover, should explode your speakers and sound like a small nuclear explosion in your front room!! This is a heavy, heavy rock album from a band who, whilst kicking up quite a storm Stateside, are relatively unheard of over here. Mountain actually sound very similar to a lot of British hard rock acts that were around at the time. Still Climbing Mountains....

Advantages: A great feel good film
Disadvantages: Can be predictable after the first 50 viewings

There was an attempt in Austria at the time to pretend that the occupation wasn?t really happening, nothing had changed and this is portrayed excellently in the film. The film is held together by a series of very well known songs from Doh a dear (based on solfage a method of music teaching used very heavily by Zoltan Kodaly a Hungarian music teacher) My favourite things, to the incredible performance of Peggy Wood singing ?Climb every Mountain? to Maria. This gives a very happy, optimistic feel to the whole film and is the main historical difference between fact and fiction. I am not one of these mad fools who think that tramping all day up a mountain in miserable cold wet conditions is fun. Leaving Itself A Mountain To Climb

Advantages: 32 mountains, simultaneous 2-player
Disadvantages: Poor controls and collision detection, limited music

...is mundane. Each of the 32 mountains are immediately accessible with the game looping on completion of the final level. As such, it's straight to the points scoring. (Perhaps without level selection and with password system in place would have given the game structure.) As a platformer, Ice Climber is about passable (if, in the worst possible way), but for sure it fails to reach any great heights....
