...?Mr Bump? is number 6 in the very famous Mr Men series by Roger Hargreaves. It tells the story of the very accident prone Mr Bump, who can?t seem to do anything without either hurting himself or breaking something. It is impossible for him to hold down a job as he is such a liability. Mr Bump eventually decides to go on a holiday to get over all his little accidents and try to come up with an idea of a job he can do. You?ll have to read the book if you want to find out whether or not he succeeds!
The ?Mr Men? books are small [they measure 13.6 x 13 x 0.8 cm] and all have white covers with a picture of the main character from the story on them. Mr Bumps is blue and round and has bandages wrapped around his head and his tummy from all the bumps he has!
It follows the same format of the other ?Mr Men? books in that the left hand pages...
...?Mr Silly? is number 10 in the Mr Men series which was written by Roger Hargreaves. Mr Silly lives in Nonsenseland, where everything is very silly. The trees are red and the dogs wear hats so it really is the ideal place for Mr Silly to live! Every year there is a competition in Nonsenseland called the Nonsense Cup and Mr Silly is desperate to win it, but he needs to come up with a really brilliant idea if he?s to beat such genius as a car with square wheels. After much pondering Mr Silly enters the competion, but will his entry be daft enough to win the cup?
The front cover of this book is white with a picture of Mr Silly on it. Mr Silly has a big smile, is light brown and wears an orange hat, which hides his eyes, and some fabulous yellow shoes.
The books follows the usual Mr Men format of having the writing on the left hand pages...
Advantages: Good story, nice bright pictures, easy to read Disadvantages: none from my house
...Well two weeks into starting school my middle son was excited as he got to bring his first reading book home but the following day he was more excited as he got another book bag which had a few reading books in for him to keep! Naturally when we got through the door we had to sit and read them together.
The cover of this book s red and has a picture of a big gorilla on the left hand side wearing a suit and the title on the right hand side in nice big bright multicoloured letters. The back cover of the book has a blue background and a picture of Mr Big and a small monkey standing next to each other. There is also a few words about the story.
The story starts by introducing us to Mr Big and telling us about how big he is and how everywhere he goes people always saw him as big and scary, as people found him scary they always ran away...

Review of Mr Big - Ed Vere
Advantages: Very well made film, very well acted, very entertaining Disadvantages: None pour moi
...Having loved ?Fantastic Mr Fox? by Roald Dahl as a child and generally being disappointed by book to film adaptations in general, I wasn?t hugely enthusiastic about going to see this film. My boyfriend was insistent, however, so I went to see it with him last night with relatively low expectations. If the film hadn?t been made by Wes Anderson, responsible for the excellent ?Darjeeling Limited? and ?The Royal Tenenbaums?, I doubt I would have been talked into going.
I am very glad that I was. The Fantastic Mr Fox was one of the best films that I have seen in quite a while, and thought that it was adapted for the screen in a very beautiful and interesting way. Anyone who has seen a Wes Anderson film before will appreciate the unique atmosphere that his films have, and will recognise many features of his work present in this film. This...
Advantages: Great story for children Disadvantages: N/A
...The Mr Men collection of books is well loved by children and has been for many years. It contains 46 stories written by Roger Hargreaves and later his son Adam. Mr Skinny is number 35 in the collection.
Mr Skinny is a very thin oval shaped yellow character with a tall thin red hat on his head. Mr Skinny also has a green nose and a broad smile. This picture of him can be found on the front of the book along with his name in block, black capitals. The back of the book contains much smaller pictures of all the other characters in the collection along with their names and their numbers so that you can easily keep track of which stories you have and haven't read.
The story starts with the information that Mr Skinny was extraordinary thin and that if he turned sideways on you could hardly see him. To make matters worse he lived in...
Advantages: fun little adventure mystery, Lugosi Disadvantages: Not much of a mystery to it
...The Mysterious Mr. Wong is often confused, and said to be part of, the series of Mr. Wong films starring Boris Karloff made in the 30?s and 40?s by Monogram studios. This film predates the first Mr. Wong (the detective) film by three years and stars another of the major monster/horror stars of the 1940?s? Bela Lugosi.
Made in 1935 The Mysterious Mr. Wong is 60 minutes long and is very typical of many of the B movies of that era.
B movies were the shorter films put on before the main film during the ?golden? era of cinema. A trip to the cinema back then would consist of a major movie, a b movie, a cartoon and a newsreel as well. No short trip to see one film and then back home again, trips to the cinema took most of the night, especially if you took in a meal as well. B movies were often the proving ground for up and coming stars...
Advantages: great characters, interesting view on the modern media, great story, great unique debut Disadvantages: None for me
...And out of the Darkwood Mr Toppit comes, and he comes not for you, or for me, but for all of us
When Aurthur Hayman dies, his series of childrens books, the bizarre Hayseed chronicles featuring the elusive Mr Toppit, become world famous. Although the books received little success whilst Arthur was alive, his legacy and the subsequent fame is passed on to his wife, Martha and his children Rachel and Luke.
For Luke especially, the fame that comes with being immortalised in the books is an unwanted one. Struggling to cope with the pressure put on them, the Hayman's lives start to unravel, as the books seem to be about to spill a secret that they want very much hidden.
My Thoughts
From the first page, this book jumped out at me as a good read. The story is told from several points of view, although mainly Luke...
Advantages: Ok film and it features Brad Pitt Disadvantages: Bit cheesy and unbelievable in places
...Mr & Mrs Smith is a film first released in June 2005. It has been described as an action/comedy/adventure/romance film so has something for everybody. The film was directed by Doug Liman and runs for 122 minutes. It is certified as a 15 due to some moderate sexual references and quite a bit of violence.
-------
PLOT
------
The film begins with Mr & Mrs Smith seeking marriage guidance counselling with the film going on to explain how the married couple ended up needing counselling.
To the outside world Mr & Mrs Smith seem like an average married couple leading ordinary lives but behind closed doors its a very different story. The pair lead completely separate lives away from home and each has a secret job of which the other has no idea what.
Eventually each learns of the others past and current secrets and the film...
...?Mr Strong? is number 26 in the very popular Mr Men series by Roger Hargreaves. The main character of the book, Mr Strong himself, is so strong that he can hammer nails into the wall just by tapping them with his finger! Mr Strong?s strength can be to his disadvantage, as he frequently breaks things without meaning to but one day he uses his strength to help a farmer whose field is on fire, and in doing so gains a reward which comes in very handy!
There are some very funny moments in this book, such as when Mr Strong bumps into a tree and the tree trunk snaps in half. The simple, bright illustrations, which are on the right of every double page, are perfect in helping little ones understand the humour of the story. The writing, which is on the left of every double page, is very clear and nicely spread out, which I think encourages...
...?Mr Bounce? is number 22 in the Mr Men series by Roger Hargreaves.
Mr Bounce is a small, round, yellow fellow with a pink hat. He is so bouncy that he?s like a little ball and finds it very hard to do anything without bouncing into something he shouldn?t. Poor Mr Bounce ends up in a pond and being mistaken for a tennis ball before going to visit Dr Makeyouwell, who comes up with an ingenius solution. Or so they both think?.
This isn?t one of my favourites from the Mr Men series but it never fails to make my kids laugh and they ask for it again and again. I do worry about Mr Bounce losing his hat?
The books measures 13.6 x 12.2 x 0.6 cm [a very good size for popping into bags if you anticipate a wait whilst you are out with little uns]. It is published by Egmont books as a paperback and has an RRP of £2.50 [although Amazon currently...
