Advent 4211c (re-branded MSI Wind)

Advantages: Cheap and easy to use
Disadvantages: No optical drive,battery not amazing

...The Advent 4211 is an often overlooked re-branded version of the MSI Wind. It is powered by the Intel Atom 1.6GHZ processor and has 1GB RAM as standard which I upgraded to 2GB. My version has the 80GB hard drive which is plenty of space for me. I find the 10.2in monitor just big enough to be comfortable and wouldn't recommend going for any Netbooks with 8in monitors as they would be a little small. It runs a cut down version of XP Home with ease and can cope with most general office type tasks with no problem. There is no optical drive so I purchased a very cheap CD drive which is fine if the Advent is a secondary laptop. I would recommend buying a more expensive optical drive if you don't have access to another laptop. The biggest problem I had with the Advent was when I crashed it. Low powered computers sold cheap. In general they come in two sizes (8" and 10"), most use the with the same hardware under the hood. The current standard is a Intel Atom 1.6GHz, between 512 MB and 1GB of RAM and a Intel 945 graphics adapter. Excellent value netbook

Advantages: Small and lightweight with good screen and keyboard size
Disadvantages: 3-cell battery only lasts 2 hours so buy one with a 6-cell battery

...I bought the MSI Wind U100 in October 2008 whilst on holiday in the US for just $380 and it is one of the best purchases I have made in the last year. I have used it every day since then and have had no problems at all with it. It is extremely portable due to its small size and low weight and does everything I need it to. My primary use for it is surfing the internet and typing up reports. I also make use of the built in card reader to transfer pictures from my digital camera. I was originally going to buy an Asus Eee PC 901 but after trying it at a shop alongside the MSI Wind, I found the MSI netbook to be much better due to the larger screen and keyboard. In my opinion it also looks better and seems to be more durable. The only bad thing I can think of about my netbook is that it has a 3-cell battery that only lasts 2 hours. It is...

Toshiba NB100

Advantages: Nice look, good battery life.
Disadvantages: Too small.

...actually pretty impressive. Function The notebook works quite well with wireless internet and doesn't cut off often as I have found with wi-fi on some other laptops. It also has an impressive battery life, in a recent car journey, I found it lasted about 3 and 3/4 hours, easily enough time for all of the film I was watching as well as some of another. It is available in two versions, Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP Home., but the Linux has 512Mb of RAM and an 80Gb hard disk, the Windows one has 1Gb of RAM and a 120Gb drive. I personally own the windows version, since I know more about the operating system and prefer the high memory levels. The rest of it's specifications are pretty average for a note book and it runs as such. Overall The Toshiba NB100 is great if you're japanese and/or believe things should be made...
