The MSI K9N Neo-F A great mid priced board.

Advantages: Easy to install, reliable and cheap for such a high quality product.
Disadvantages: Oddly placed FDD header

...The MSI K9N Neo-F --------------------------- I've never written a motherboard review before so I hope I cover everything you need to know. AVAILABILITY: ------------------- This item should be in the £40-£50 price range. It is I would consider a higher mid range board. Specs: --------- ATX This is an ATX sized motherboard. It will fit in midi or full sized tower cases. It will not fit in mini ATX cases. Processor = SOCKET AM2 This is a Socket AM2 motherboard. For: AMD ATHLON 64's, Semprons And Athlon dual cores aka X2's. RAM = DDR2 This board supports the 240 pin DDR 2 standard. It will take PC4200 PC5300 & PC6400 sticks of ram. PCIE Graphics. This will take a PCIE x16 Graphics card. It will not work with AGP cards. PCIE is the more recent technology. Chipset...

MSI do it again.

Advantages: Well planned layout, good spec
Disadvantages: none really

...When I burnt my other mainboard out (an aging p2 MSI variant) I needed something urgently to replace it - being mid program. So, off I went to my usual websites, and spotted this. It seemed to have reasonable reviews, so i purchased one not thinking it'd be hugely special, just reliable and simple. Boy, was I suprised! First off, its well laid out - everything is accessable, labelled and well explained in the manual. Second of all, its thoughtfully spec'd. rather than clutter the board with the aging IDE ports, they've put a bank of SATA connectors, and only one IDE for a floppy drive (should you install one!). Furthermore, the onboard chipset is cooled quietly, wires don't need a huge stretch to fit into the appropriate port, and the colour coding is clear, rather than all the same boring beige. In use, the board is, quite...

MSI 7600GS 256, your next SLI?

Advantages: Low Cost, Good Performance, Dual DVI, SLI
Disadvantages: DDR2 Ram

.../utilities. In single card mode the card performs adequately, playing all modern (Directx 9.0) games, and performing all 2D Functions flawlessly. With some slight tweaking in the overclocking stocks (bearing in mind this is a passively cooled card) a 5-10% gain can be expected, making it a respectably performing card, giving high frame rates in modern games, with moderate graphics settings. One of the drawbacks of this card is the type of memory MSI have used. It is DDR2 Ram which really restricts the total speed of the memory, and limits your overclocking potential. My real reason behind this review is to suggest to those who have invested in an SLI Compliant motherboard with 2 PCI Express slots and are still on a budget, that this card would be an excellent candidate for SLI. All you need do is purchase 2 of them, and join them together...

My Travelling White Angel (MSi WiND)

Advantages: Connects instantly to previous networks; 1kg easily carried; WindowsXP; Big Keyboard; Bluetooth
Disadvantages: Pre-installed Office 2007 Professional w/60-day trial; MSi Q-face; Function Key

...discount, and a special bundle price to include a tech air (up to 10") Notebook case with lockable zip, padded carry handle and adjustable shoulder strap. And an added benefit was that CDiscount give an interest-free three-instalment payment option on any purchase exceeding £100. As my DLA is paid every four weeks into my bank account, this suddenly made the MSi WiND appear very affordable. Standard Postage and Packing was £3.99 but it was upgraded to "Next Day" free of charge. On Thursday, 9th July, my new 'toy' arrived ~ in quite a large brown packing box. I kept the carrier waiting as I opened the package to check that it was all there, and all in perfect condition. There was a lot of huge-bubble plastic cushioning the contents: a Tech-Air case, and the compact blue box containing my new notebook...

Sly stole the show, literally!

Advantages: Amazing presentation; stylish gameplay; great for kids and adults alike; it's just plain fun!
Disadvantages: Frequent slowdown; too short; more boss battles would be nice; lack of replay value.

MSI K8N Neo4

Advantages: Durable, easy to use, stacked with features
Disadvantages: Only four memory slots, slow speed with four memory modules

...I currently have this motherboard in my computer system. I have so far had no major technical issues with it and have enjoyed every minute. I am running it with a AMD 64 3800+, 4x512 MB PC3200 Kingston Hyper X memory modules, a Western Digital 10,000 RPM Raptor 69GB Hard drive, a bog standard Samsung DVD drive and a Nvidia 7800 GTX graphics card. The above components are all quite expensive and I knew I would have to choose a suitable motherboard to fit them into. I first came across the board whilst searching the internet, it seemed a reasonable price for the specs included. Now that I have it working I can tell you it runs just about anything you can find, well game wise anyway. I have never experienced any sort of system crash and the updates from MSI to bios and drivers have always installed without a problem. One of the most...

Advent 4211c (re-branded MSI Wind)

Advantages: Cheap and easy to use
Disadvantages: No optical drive, battery not amazing

...The Advent 4211 is an often overlooked re-branded version of the MSI Wind. It is powered by the Intel Atom 1.6GHZ processor and has 1GB RAM as standard which I upgraded to 2GB. My version has the 80GB hard drive which is plenty of space for me. I find the 10.2in monitor just big enough to be comfortable and wouldn't recommend going for any Netbooks with 8in monitors as they would be a little small. It runs a cut down version of XP Home with ease and can cope with most general office type tasks with no problem. There is no optical drive so I purchased a very cheap CD drive which is fine if the Advent is a secondary laptop. I would recommend buying a more expensive optical drive if you don't have access to another laptop. The biggest problem I had with the Advent was when I crashed it. There is no recovery disc as it has an internal...

It's the SLI of the tiger

Advantages: SLI. AMD64 bit goodness, DDR memory still used, Hypertransport, Hardware Firewall, Cable testing ports
Disadvantages: New PSU needed for 24 pin ATX and PCI-E power, BIOS updates required

...oops, I did it again with such a SAD title that half the readers of this small review on the newest Nvidia chipset based motherboard for the AMD64 socket 939 platform, have probably closed their browsers in disbelief. It was Just around the Christmas/New Year I decided that frankly my old XP3200+ based system could no longer cut the mustard so to speak, so off I went ( once I had been paid ) and bought nearly a complete system based around the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. As far as motherboards go, I only really like to use 2 of the well-known brands which are Abit and Asus. According to our Abit contact we have at work, would not have an SLI motherboard out for "quite a few months" I had only the Asus range to choose from. Now I was torn between a new PCI-E based platform or an older based AGP system - and I thought seeing as SLI was...

MSI's novel concept

Advantages: Great double as a stereo
Disadvantages: Needs more

...not support HyperThreading or 800MHz FSB. This can make enthusiasts looking for an easy-to-stow-away gaming rig turn their heads to the competition's direction. The last blow to the Mega PC's hopes is MSI's own answer to this PC's critics which was unveiled at the recent QuakeCon. Certainly, the upcoming nForce2 IGP version of the Mega PC is a much more viable option for HTPC purposes provided that it succeeds where the Mega PC 651 falls short. The Mega PC is an indication that MSI is in the right track when it comes to SFF PCs. It runs on a novel concept but is far from perfect. It's a good first try, but it's not yet enough....
