*MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Explained In Detail*

Advantages: Looks great, excellent features, very stable
Disadvantages: Slightly expensive, no other disadvantages

...The Socket 939 Athlon 64 processor is a fairly new technology, and has been available for about six months now. Many people are reluctant to upgrade, either because they have a good enough system already, or they cannot afford the jump to 939 pin technology. The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is a motherboard which supports 939 pin Athlon processors. I bought it about 2 months ago for £90, and you can get it now for about £80. The following review will explain every detail of this motherboard, to make it more understandable by you. There will also be a brief explanation of what '939 pin' is. [FEATURES] The K8N is full of features, and I will try my best to explain them in detail for you. [Chipset]: nForce3 Ultra The Chipset of a motherboard is a set of main features manufactured by a seperate company, in this case, nVidia, who...

The MSI K9N Neo-F A great mid priced board.

Advantages: Easy to install, reliable and cheap for such a high quality product.
Disadvantages: Oddly placed FDD header

...The MSI K9N Neo-F --------------------------- I've never written a motherboard review before so I hope I cover everything you need to know. AVAILABILITY: ------------------- This item should be in the £40-£50 price range. It is I would consider a higher mid range board. Specs: --------- ATX This is an ATX sized motherboard. It will fit in midi or full sized tower cases. It will not fit in mini ATX cases. Processor = SOCKET AM2 This is a Socket AM2 motherboard. For: AMD ATHLON 64's, Semprons And Athlon dual cores aka X2's. RAM = DDR2 This board supports the 240 pin DDR 2 standard. It will take PC4200 PC5300 & PC6400 sticks of ram. PCIE Graphics. This will take a PCIE x16 Graphics card. It will not work with AGP cards. PCIE is the more recent technology. Chipset...

MSI do it again

Advantages: Dual Channel Memory, In built Sound and LAN
Disadvantages: First 2 boards I had faulty.

...I have used MSI motherboards and graphics cards in the past and this board slightly disapointed me, the first two of these I had were faulty (one wouldn't work and one went VERY slow if anything was connected on the same IDE cable as the primary master hard drive). Anyway, when I finally got a properly working motherboard I was amazed as to how much better it was than my old motherboard (which I hapened to melt after the heatsink was not properly held onto the processor), the dual channel memory really speeds up video compression and image editing and the USB 2.0 interface makes a flash drive much more useful. This motherboard is a cut down version of a high end motherboard and so does not feature all the latest techology, such as raid or firewire. This motherboard has onboard sound and lan(local area nework) ports, which negate...

MSI K7n420Pro nForce Motherboard

Advantages: Value for money, competent integrated hardware (especially the sound)
Disadvantages: Geforce2 MX a little dated for todays games

...I was building a PC on a budget over a year ago, and was looking for a solution that offered a good price/performance ratio. It was then that I stumbled across a new concept in motherboards - nVidias nForce chipset. >Overview< --------------- This MSI motherboard utilises nVidia's nForce chipset. nVidias nForce (now superceded by the nForce2 and 3) was and is a milestone in motherboard technology. Never before had so many competent technologies been bundled into one board. The chipset main features are: Support for Duron/Athlon/XP processors with an FSB of 100/133mhz ...and thus 200/266mhz DDR RAM memory in DUAL CHANNEL mode. Integrated nVidia Geforce2MX-class 'crush' graphics Integrated nVidia SoundStorm Dolby Digital 5.1 sound Onboard Networking As far as CPU support goes, I think this goes up to the Athlon XP...

My Dream Machine Motherboard

Advantages: Supports.... Everything!
Disadvantages: As with all boards, difficult to set up!

...Welcome to the fourth installment of my computer component reviews! My motherboard is the 865PE Neo2 - P. I'm assuming that this is the same, it certainly looks the same. MSI is a highly respected motherboard manufactorer and have incorporated the intel 865PE chipset into this fantastic motherboard. Thanks to Rabid's suggestion, I went to the MSI section of overclockers. There I found the one he suggested, below it was this baby. For just £10 more I could have dual DDR RAM, as well as a few other minor enhancements. This board has all the standard features, like AGP 8x, ATA 133 support and 5 PCI ports. It's also got 4 ram slots (with dual DDR ram support and supporting up to 500Mhz RAM on overclock speeds). It supports all pentium 4 chips including the new Extreme and Prescott processors. For those who don't understand that...

Micro ATX board

Advantages: Good stable board
Disadvantages: Not many PCI slots

...Motherboards are critical to any computer. The selection is wide and the features each contains need to be closely looked at. I was building a new PC and I came across this motherboard. It is a micro ATX board so is alot smaller than any ATX board so therefore has the disadvantage of not having much opportunity for expansion. There are only three PCI slots which is fine if you do not require many but considering that a modem, soundcard and now wireless cards need PCI slots then this does not leave many options if you wish to install these. The board itself has many features and comes with onboard graphics and sound. The advantage of this is that money is saved on needing to buy a graphics card and sound card. The disadvantage of this is that if you do use the onboard graphics it uses your system memory and therefore can slow...

75FRV

Advantages: good cheap motherboard for your money
Disadvantages: Bit aged now with the release of new processors

...I have had this motherboard for a few months now and i have to say it is really good. I have it with an Athlon 2400+ chip with 2x512 PC3200 DDR memory and it runs like a dream. The features of this motherboard are as follows: Chipset: VIA Apollo KT400 Processor Support: AMD processors Athlon/Athlon XP/Duron 333/266/200 MHz system bus Graphics: AGP 8X/4X Memory: DDR 400/333 MHz SDRAM ATA: ATA 133/100/66 data transfer rate Others: USB 2.0 6 channel AC'97 audio Auto Overclock in Bios When I purchased this motherboard it came with ATA and floppy drive cables although it depends where you buy it and what company made it on weather you get them. Also it comes with a great manual that is easy to follow and the PC can be made and set up with ease using this motherboard. The bios is very good and there is no...

Best consumer home server in the day

Advantages: Everything about it, sound, RAID, 12 IDE built in, OC able, stable.
Disadvantages: Very hard to find, no more than 3gb memory, older hardware, single-core cpu.

...I've had 3 of these over the last 4-5 years (since they were first produced. I sold two of them to upgrade my home rigs to newer and slightly faster machines as the years went by. However, I've kept one and I'm so glad I did- it's been my best motherboard so far. Between the built-in chipset bonuses (the HPT374 for instance) and great components, it's never given me a hitch. They're really hard to find, if not impossible, but for a home server, they are incredible. I only wish there was some way to go dual-core with these. They're still a rocking system with winXP or some form of Linux, and with 12 possible IDE/hard drives (10 drives and 2 CD/DVD's) you can really make a nice office and business machine. They DO overclock, and they will accept the fastest socket-A chip you can still find (Bartons no problem). Somewhere out there...
