one of the best boards for socket 478

...If your like i was before stuck with a pretty decent socket 478 CPU such as a Pentium 4 2.8 , then this is one of the best motherboards i would recommend to get. There are lots of great advantages with this motherboard such as the size, its a Micro ATX motherboard meaning that you can have a smaller case such as a media centre case. It has 2 DDR 400 (backwards compatible with DDR 333,266 and 200) slots which can be used in Dual channel Mode if both Ram modules are the same. The northbridge chipset on this board is an Intel 865g which supports a front side bus up to 800 mhz , but you can also use 400 and 533 mhz bus CPU's with this board. It has two SATA slots which i would say is the most future friendly part on the motherboard meaning it wont be a problem when upgrading your hard drive or some optical drives which are now...

Micro ATX board

Advantages: Good stable board
Disadvantages: Not many PCI slots

.... The board is a Socket A board so support the AMD Athlon up processor. The FSB supported is 266 MHz which today is by far not the best speed but it is certainly capable of running at high speeds. The board can also be over clocked to run faster so if you are into pushing your computer to the limits then this board is capable of doing that. The board also contains onboard LAN so there is no need to buy a network interface card. Considering the board?s low price and it is packed with feature this can satisfy users of all levels. The board is easy to install and the motherboard manual provided explains everything you need to know in great depth and in an understandable way. Overall I would highly recommend this board as it is stable easily overclockable and packed with features and for the price you cannot really go wrong. Well done MSI....

Advantages: Reliable, Good Online Support/Updates, Affordable, Good Layout
Disadvantages: Only two SATA controllers, Sound & Graphics could be better

...We have stocked this MSI K9VGM-V motherboard for over 3 months now. And, to its credit, considering it's more of a budget board, we haven't had one failure with them. Considering the number we sell, that is very good! Good Points: Reliable Motherboard, Nicely laid out for keeping the inside of the PC clear of trailing cables, Cheap to buy, Simple BIOS & MSI offer what is called a 'Live Update' for its motherboards which works much better than some other manufacturers. Bad Point: Only two SATA controllers onboard, Onboard Sound & Graphics not quite as good as those offered by its competitors in the same catergory. All in all we'd say that this board is great for system builders who are putting together a home/budget type package but is probably unsuitable for the more adventurous computer user....

...Welcome to the fourth installment of my computer component reviews! My motherboard is the 865PE Neo2 - P. I'm assuming that this is the same, it certainly looks the same. MSI is a highly respected motherboard manufactorer and have incorporated the intel 865PE chipset into this fantastic motherboard. Thanks to Rabid's suggestion, I went to the MSI section of overclockers. There I found the one he suggested, below it was this baby. For just £10 more I could have dual DDR RAM, as well as a few other minor enhancements. This board has all the standard features, like AGP 8x, ATA 133 support and 5 PCI ports. It's also got 4 ram slots (with dual DDR ram support and supporting up to 500Mhz RAM on overclock speeds). It supports all pentium 4 chips including the new Extreme and Prescott processors. ...When I burnt my other mainboard out (an aging p2 MSI variant) I needed something urgently to replace it - being mid program. So, off I went to my usual websites, and spotted this. It seemed to have reasonable reviews, so i purchased one not thinking it'd be hugely special, just reliable and simple. Boy, was I suprised! First off, its well laid out - everything is accessable, labelled and well explained in the manual. Second of all, its thoughtfully spec'd. rather than clutter the board with the aging IDE ports, they've put a bank of SATA connectors, and only one IDE for a floppy drive (should you install one!). Furthermore, the onboard chipset is cooled quietly, wires don't need a huge stretch to fit into the appropriate port, and the colour coding is clear, rather than all the same boring beige.
