My Travelling White Angel (MSi WiND)
Advantages: Connects instantly to previous networks; 1kg easily carried; WindowsXP; Big Keyboard; Bluetooth
Disadvantages: Pre-installed Office 2007 Professional w/60-day trial; MSi Q-face; Function Key
...allowed slightly longer than the 60 days. I'm not really impressed with the special features and changes, and have been using it in compatibility mode. Even so, the punctuation mutates when copied into a review, so I need to save the punctuation for 'typing in the box' once I'm getting ready to post the review. There is Winzip, a magnifier, an impressive audio interface and an integral web camera (which I have yet to use). There is something which is called MSi Q-face which I find totally incomprehensible and which, annoyingly pops up on the screen like a little smiling creature; then says something about capture device already used or something and displays pictures in a grid like an iPhone and just refuses to go away. Games and access to a "Windy-zone" are also included, but I have steadfastly ignored them so far. It was not pre...

Advent 4211c (re-branded MSI Wind)
Advantages: Cheap and easy to use
Disadvantages: No optical drive, battery not amazing
...The Advent 4211 is an often overlooked re-branded version of the MSI Wind.
It is powered by the Intel Atom 1.6GHZ processor and has 1GB RAM as standard which I upgraded to 2GB. My version has the 80GB hard drive which is plenty of space for me. I find the 10.2in monitor just big enough to be comfortable and wouldn't recommend going for any Netbooks with 8in monitors as they would be a little small. It runs a cut down version of XP Home with ease and can cope with most general office type tasks with no problem. There is no optical drive so I purchased a very cheap CD drive which is fine if the Advent is a secondary laptop. I would recommend buying a more expensive optical drive if you don't have access to another laptop.
The biggest problem I had with the Advent was when I crashed it. There is no recovery disc as it has an internal...

MSI's novel concept
Advantages: Great double as a stereo
Disadvantages: Needs more
...not support HyperThreading or 800MHz FSB. This can make enthusiasts looking for an easy-to-stow-away gaming rig turn their heads to the competition's direction.
The last blow to the Mega PC's hopes is MSI's own answer to this PC's critics which was unveiled at the recent QuakeCon. Certainly, the upcoming nForce2 IGP version of the Mega PC is a much more viable option for HTPC purposes provided that it succeeds where the Mega PC 651 falls short.
The Mega PC is an indication that MSI is in the right track when it comes to SFF PCs. It runs on a novel concept but is far from perfect. It's a good first try, but it's not yet enough....

MSI 7600GT. AGP Cards Still Kicking
Advantages: Ample Memory for an AGP, Fits in mATX Cases, No Noise, Low Power, Overclockable
Disadvantages: AGP Slot, No DirectX 10 Support, Max Anisotrophy x4
...quality settings.
Size
With computers scaling from huge towers with plenty of cooling space to tiny boxes with mATX motherboards, it is important to assure this card fits. Yes, the MSI GeForce 7600 fits in a small mini or micro tower and does not cramp your mATX mainboard. You should only worry if your computer case was built specifically for minimal space and your current card barely fits with only one monitor socket covering the entire rear panel's width. Otherwise, worry not, all measurements are basic and fully compatible.
Memory
Being suitable for an older slot, this graphics card uses its bulky 512MB memory supply as a great advantage. It lets the user visualise extremely complex textures and high-quality images that would cause a dramatic drop in performance otherwise. A memory cycle within the VRAM is an amazing...

MSI do it again.
Advantages: Well planned layout, good spec
Disadvantages: none really
...When I burnt my other mainboard out (an aging p2 MSI variant) I needed something urgently to replace it - being mid program.
So, off I went to my usual websites, and spotted this. It seemed to have reasonable reviews, so i purchased one not thinking it'd be hugely special, just reliable and simple.
Boy, was I suprised!
First off, its well laid out - everything is accessable, labelled and well explained in the manual.
Second of all, its thoughtfully spec'd. rather than clutter the board with the aging IDE ports, they've put a bank of SATA connectors, and only one IDE for a floppy drive (should you install one!).
Furthermore, the onboard chipset is cooled quietly, wires don't need a huge stretch to fit into the appropriate port, and the colour coding is clear, rather than all the same boring beige.
In use, the board is, quite...

MSi 845E Max (6566e) Pentium 4 motherboard
Advantages: Fast, cheap, stable, excellent support and v good manual
Disadvantages: Requires a minimum of Win ME upwards
...more ram at a later date, this motherboard however does NOT support sdram which is now considered obsolete for P4 boards anyway.
Onboard sound is also provided as standard with this motherboard using the AC 97 sound chip and the drivers for the sound have been updated frequently on MSi's website so there should be no problem for anyone into gaming who needs the latest sound drivers.
On the subject of driver updates i really should take this time to explain a little regarding one of the best features surrounding this motherboard (and indeed MSi's motherboards in general) included on the supplied CD is a small program called 'Live update' (requires an internet connection) now what this does is basically scan your motherboard on request to see what version drivers you have installed for both the motherboard, sound and bios and then if...

MSI 7600GS 256, your next SLI?
Advantages: Low Cost, Good Performance, Dual DVI, SLI
Disadvantages: DDR2 Ram
...This card was my first ever PCI Express 16x Card, and as I got it from MSI, I was sure it would be a high quality product.
For those who have seen my review on the 7600GT, you will recongnise my mention of this card from which I upgraded.
The main reason for this review is to show the strengths of this 'budget' oriented card, as they are still very available, and in an SLI Configuration (2 cards joined together) would be truly powerful. So if you are on a budget and want a great SLI Setup to brag about to your friends, how about two of these babies in your rig!
Firstly the card is very well presented, and in the retail packaging you can expect the card itself, 2 x DVI-VGA adapters (If you have VGA monitors), S-video to Coxial Cable, and a great addition, Brothers in Arms Computer Game (DVD), as well as the driver diskette...

MSI RS482M4-ILD from MSI
Advantages: Very stable MoBo, built in ATI Graphics, reasonably priced.
Disadvantages: No SLI
...I purchased the RS482M4-ILD motherboard on 10th November 2005.
The board arrived complete with a variety of cables. The board was well packaged and looks quite robust.
For a review with all pictures search for MSI RS482M4-ILD review .This board is based on the RADEON 200 chipset. It includes on board Video.
What you get in the box:Amongst the cables there is a SATA power cable and a SATA motherboard to disk cable.
You also get 1 IDE and 1 Floppy cables. There is a Serial port via ribbon cable, TV S-Video and SPDIF connectors and 8channel sound via another cable.
MSI provide software that includes a utility for checking all the updates available for your motherboard.
This works well and it will inform you if your software is current or not. You can select all the updates that you want.
Fitting the motherboard to your ATX...

MSI DR4-A 4x DVD+/-R
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Needs updating, temperamental
...information held on an internal chip that controls the drive. New firmware can fix problems and add compatibility with new DVD blanks for your drive. You may want to check compatibility on the MSI site before you buy blank DVDs. Sony blanks, for instance, aren't supported!
>Burning<
The drive only supports burning my particular brand of 4x DVDs at 2x - which takes ~30mins. I am going to get some Ritek G04 media (search for it) which is reliable and supported at 4x. However, I seriously recommend against multi-tasking while burning. The drive has a buffer and is on a seperate IDE channel to my hard disk, AND I am running WinXP Pro on an Athlon XP 1800+ with 512MB of RAM, but I have killed several blank DVDs by trying to browse the web etc while burning. Burning CD's is fine though and supported at upto 24x.
