...'Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times' was first published in 1991 and written and compiled by the respected boxing writer Thomas Hauser. The book, which is over 500 pages long, is a comprehensive overview of Ali's life and career told mostly in quotes from countless people (both living and dead) who were there at the time. Ali, his entourage, his opponents, his parents, his children, promoters, journalists, celebrities and on and on. There is a vast amount of material in the book which charts his boxing career, political battles, relationships, friendships, rivalries and character. Although Ali now has probably more biographies about him than just about any other person, living or dead, if you had to buy just one book about him this would be my recommendation. Muhammad Ali and Foreman in this documentary.

Advantages: you can learn many details about the boxing stars when you watch it.
Disadvantages: Nothing to say more.

...Ok, right off the bat I might as well tell you that this is a documentary about boxing. Wait! Wait! Hold on a second! Come back! In the interest of full disclosure, and to point out how powerful this film is, you should know that I'm no fan of boxing. Sometimes I even find it a little disturbing actually, especially lately. So, for me to do a review of a boxing documentary should tell you something about what kind of movie this is. So hang around and hear me out. More than boxing, this movie is about Muhammad Ali and George Foreman's fight in Zaire back in the 70s. "The Rumble In The Jungle" as it was billed. Ali with a fab line up

Advantages: great selection of artists and classics

...Ali Campbell's Running Free is a great mixture of songs featuring some equally as talented artists. What a brilliant CD to be given. "' Why this CD?'" I have been a big fan of UB40 since the age of 14yr and own some of their orginal albums on vinyl. For those too young to remember - those black things that came in 2 sizes 45" and 33" and when put onto a turn table played crackling, sorry cracking, sounds. Haji Ali Mosque, great Muslim Architecture

Ali Tandori curry house, Norwich

Advantages: Great food, great service, great for groups
Disadvantages: looking dated

...Up until recently the Ali Tandori was the best Curry house in the city. Located down Magdalen Street it is in the ideal location for if you fancy a few quiet (and very cheap - well it is a Wetherspoons) drinks and then on for a late curry. The Ali is the ideal place for loud, abnoxious groups that are out to try and destroy their guts by eating a ridiculously hot curry to earn respect from their mates. The Ali has this reputation and as such, people who go there are not expecting any different. So, it doesn't matter of you get a bit loud, the language gets a bit blue and the topic of conversation gets even bluer. The Ali is one curry house that is not suitable for children and families, couples on a romantic date, or small groups that are out for a quiet meal. The Greatest of All times

Advantages: Unique insight into probably the most written about sportsman ever
Disadvantages: People expecting lists of fight stats will be disappointed.

...In this biography the author, Davis Miller, analyses the personal inspiration and education he has taken from the life and times of Muhammed Ali and by doing this brings a new literary perspective to one of the 20th century's most discussed icons. Miller discusses the impact of Muhammed Ali on his life, so goes in a completely different direction to traditional Ali biographies such as Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times, by Thomas Hauser (This is also excellent and works well to complement Miller's book). RESPECTPA!- Ali G Indahouse.

Advantages: Hilarity
Disadvantages: crudse humour, not appealing to everyone

...Respectpa! Ali G is one of Sacha Baron Cohen great creations. Martin Freeman co-stars as one of his possy. Brought up in east Staines Ali longs to be of black descent, but unfortunately isn't. Ali is a proud member of the John Nike leisure centre and when it is threatened to be closed down he says he will do anything to help. This is possibly the funniest film I have ever seen, with hilarious language and some more than strange nude scenes. . Yes, it is sexist, crude and insome parts racist, but this is what makes it so appealing to comedy lovers.This film has a fantastic plot and is not as predictable as some other films of its genre. This film has a certificate of 15 for a reason but for anyone, and I mean anyone above that will thoroughly enjoy it. Comedy lovers and even usual thriller audiences will com e to love this film...

Advantages: some parts are mildly amusing

...I am a big fan of Ali G I own all the videos and I find him consistently funny. However this was not the case in his first film (and hopefully his last) “Ali G In Da House.” Thankfully it was only one hour and ten minutes long. The film starts with Ali (Barron Cohen) dreaming, he is in LA and fighting a gang, which he wins single-handedly. He wakes up living at home with “Me Nan,” who is shown for the first time here. Ali works in a community centre running a class showing kids how to survive on the street. When Ali is told that they are going to close the community centre down he decides to protest to save it single-handedly, by this he chains himself to the railings. His enemies “The Eastside Posse” spot him and strip him, he then becomes unwillingly involved in a sexual act involving a blind man...

...WILL SMITH is an excellent actor. I can see why he was nominated for an academy award as a lead actor. I had a hard time thinking he was not ALI. He had the walk, the talk and the mannerisms I remember very little about ALI except that he was a great boxer. All my memories of him are recent. When I think of ALI, I think of the man whose body is riddled with a crippling disease. A man who has trouble walking. Not the determined, arrogant, but seemingly gentle man portrayed in this movie. I vaguely remember him not going in to the Army, and thought him just another draft-dodger. I did not understand his disgust at killing when he seemed so violent in the ring. Ali Awfull.

Advantages: Superb acting from Will Smith
Disadvantages: Too long.

...Now before I start this review i would like to make it clear that Iam a fan Of Muhammad Ali, as a sports man. This film directed by Micahel Mann ( Heat ) , has great potential. Mann is a superb director whos work I hold in high regard. This is a superbly made film ,the fight scenes are just like watching the real thing. But the film falls down between these action packed sequences. Ali is an extremley interesting person, whos life has taken many twists and turns, and to try to cram all this into one film was always going to be a struggle. Smith is superb as Ali, he looks, walks and talks just like the great man. But However interesting Ali's life may have been Mann still manages to slow the film down to a snails pace. This leaves the viewer hanging on to the next fight while the narrative creeps along. Its understandable that...
