Trust External 4 Port USB Hub

Advantages: Price.
Disadvantages: You have to destroy the box to get the unit out.

...Trust 4 Port USB Hub. Basics first I suppose. For the non techies out there, this device is used to connect up to four USB devices to your P.C., such as digital cameras. If like me you only have two USB ports on the back of your pc then this little device is a good investment for you. It is external, so there is no need to take the sides off of your computer and start mucking about inside. The box contents are as follows. USB Hub USB Cable Velcro Tape Protective Carry Case Multi Language User's Manual. The hub is a small black unit with single connecting point on the back and four USB ports on the front for your USB peripheral such as digital cameras and MP3 players. A really big well done for Ciao for not putting a picture up, as I did provide the web address so that they could. The dimensions are 75mm...

Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub

Advantages: Funky glowing lights
Disadvantages: Cheaper "clones" are available

...I bought the Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub as I have more USB items than USB sockets on my laptop docking station. Its compact dimensions (width 9.5 cm, depth 4 cm, height 1.5 cm, weight 40 g)and included USB connection cable allow it to fit anywhere on the desk, and its four USB 2.0 ports (480Mbps data transfer) allow rapid connection to all sorts of peripherals. It's also backward compatible with older USB 1.1 devices, and Apple devices I believe, too. Installation (with Windows XP SP2) is a doddle, with no drivers aor anything to install, just plug it in, wait a few seconds while Windows does its stuff, and we're off. Connecting USB peripherals previously connected directly prompts Windows to repeat its "Found New Hardware" business, but this takes just a few seconds. When peripherals are connected, the plastic around...

Port Ahoy! Cracking Belkin USB Hub

Advantages: great design, vertical ports for regular items such as memory sticks, led display
Disadvantages: maybe a bit expensive but comparrison but it is quality

...I bought this hub as an impulse purchase but based my decision on: (a) you can never have enough usb ports (b) belkin are a respected manufacturer (c) I liked the design It cost me £12 when I bought it but I think that was the stores mistake as I have seen it advertised at between £19 and £24. Even at that price though this is a good piece of kit. Bearing in mind you can get USB 2 hubs for about half the piece of this one made by companies you may have never heard of, the design and features on this device make it a very attractive and useful addition to your desktop. It has seven USB ports; five on the back and two placed nattily and very usefully on the top. The top ones are what make this great in my view. They are ideal for things you want to plug in and take out on a regular and irregular basis. I use them for usb...

Great Little Hub

Advantages: Hi Speed, Small, Logitech
Disadvantages: None as of yet!

...4 Port Hub Bought this as an add-on for my Home PC, although very small and excellent for Notebooks, in fact its designed for notebooks and its comes in a very small form factor it connects with a USB A - USB B Mini the features are • Features 4 ports • Provides data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps • Plug-n-play does not require any added software This Hub is your basic 4 port hub connect up to four devices with USB and supporting high speed it gives great speeds for transferring files, although you do need to make sure the port you are connecting too is high speed to take advantage of that but works well with USB 1.1 too, it comes in a nice piano black sheen with clear indicated port points and is supplied with connection cable, its compatible with Windows up to Vista and also MacOS X 10.1 or later, to be honest...

3Com OfficeConnect TP4 4 Port Ethernet Hub

Advantages: Ebay bargain !
Disadvantages: Only 10 mbps, Only 4 ports

...Bought this on Ebay for a bargain £1 to expand my network. I've since replaced it with another 3Com hub (check out my other reviews), but thought I'd still let you know a little about it. It's an entry-level, 4 port hub, but only 10BASE-T, rather than the faster 100BASE-TX - that's why I upgraded, so you can connect 4 users together. There's one (manually switched) MDI-MDIX port to provide simple "in" connection from a server, switch, or hub, and three other female RJ-45 ports to send the network signal out to 3 other items. The hub has an external power supply and a "CoolCurve" self-cooling design eliminating the need for a noisy fan. Its dimensions (height: 3.6cm, width: 23.1cm, depth: 13.6cm) allow it to fit nicely with other 3Com OfficeConnect units - special stacking clips are available. It's an "unmanaged" hub, so...

BT RUBBISH HOME HUB

Advantages: PRETTY FLASHING LIGHTS
Disadvantages: CONSTANT BREAKDOWN

....These are as follows... 1) Hub phone light 2) Wireless connection 3) Broadband connection 4) Internet connection 5) Ethernet connection Ok,none to shabby i thought. The phone had a few decent tones on it and was easy to use,so far so good. As i had taken this hub on with its up to 8mb download speed,i say 8mb with a large frown and set it all up,what with its adsl filter and its warnings to keep it ventilated and away from mirrors and monitors i was eventually ready to go. The Breakdown...... Within an hour of setting up and being connected i was told by BT that my broadband speed would be based on how far i was from the server and it would then be set after two weeks to a maximum level.I thought i would do a speed test on a site i was recommended so put in the url and low and behold i had no connection.A little box popped up...

A useless hub

Advantages: Small, neat, 4 ports
Disadvantages: Useless

...The sitecom 4 port USB2.0 pocket hub... probably the most useless thing I have ever bought. As USB hubs go, this one looks pretty reasonable, was priced fairly and the box led me to believe it would do what I needed from a USB hub, which i the same thing I would expect all USB hubs to do. Well I couldn't have been more wrong. On first impression it seemed ok. I plugged it into my pc and then plugged my USB mouse into the hub. Not a problem... everything as it should be. So that was that. I'd bought the hub and I was happy with it. No for long though. The surprise came when I plugged in my USB jumpdrive. The drive would not work and neither would the mouse. This seems to be a common occurance with having more than 1 item plugged into the hub. Email communication with Sitecom was most interesting. I was told by them that in most...

Belkin Powered Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-port Hub

Advantages: Fast USB 2 Hub, Ports well spaced out
Disadvantages: Only for Desktop PC's really, Must have adequate PSU

...It should first be stated that this product is intended for use with a desktop computer and indeed it would only be practical to use it in such a manner. The hub comes with an AC adapter which has a good length cable to reach the mains socket. A USB cable is also included to connect the hub to your computer. The hubs cannot function without the AC power. There is nothing more frustrating than ports or sockets being too close together, meaning that large or bulky adapters or plugs can't fit in next to each other. This problem is avoided by the Belkin 7-port hub as the ports are well spaced out with four on one side and three on the other. There is an indicator light for each port to indicate whether it is working or not (on or off). There is no switch to turn off the hub - this would have to be done by disconnecting it from...

Review of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub - hub - 7 ports

Belkin USB hub

Advantages: Plenty of ports, stackable, simple display
Disadvantages: Yet another power lead, relativley short cable.

...the cables) so i have it blu-tacked to the desk! Occasionally my mouse is not detected upon startup, so have to unplug then re-connect it to force it to be recognised. The cable connecting the hub to the computer is quite short, meaning possible placement issues The hub is stackable (through the top 2 ports) to allow for additional usb ports. I have not tried this, so am unsure as to if another power lead would be required....

Review of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub - hub - 7 ports

The BT Home Hub

Advantages: Its free with some packages.
Disadvantages: It is abysmal.

...This is one of the worst products I have ever had the misfortune to use. When it first arrived, it was immediately evident that it would be annoying, there are 5 constantly on and flashing lights that are too bright, and also no useful lights to show network activity as would be present on a normal router. The interface of the router (http://192.168.1.254) is atrocious. Its poorly laid out, is not at all simple to use and can be very, very slow. Another problem is the regular development of errors with the Hub. It will seemingly at random disconnect wireless devices, disable one or both of the network ports, block some programs but not others, or just stop working completely. Of course, the only action to take when a router stops working is to restart - but is there a restart button? No. You have to manually go to the device...
