Mumbai, or is it Bombay
Advantages: Read Opp
Disadvantages: Read Opp
...Well in 2005, I went on a 6 week trip to India and Dubai, it was during the summer holidays and my cousin was getting married there so I figured why not go and see the wedding and say hello to my grand mum who I hadn't seen for about 10 years. I visited quite a few different cities in India, but this particular review is about my time in Mumbai or Bombay, which ever you want to call it. I spent a total of 5 nights in this buzzing, beautiful yet populated city. My first trip to Mumbai was when I was about 6 years old, I hated it 100%, however at the age of 18, I found myself enjoying my second trip to this city, and I could actually go to clubs, travel on my own and explore the city with some independence. This review will focus more on what I saw during my time in the city, where I stayed, the places I visited, the culture and lifestyle...

Bombay Dreams - Mumbai Reality!
Advantages: Longer you are there the more to see.
Disadvantages: Busy, Polluted, Frenetic.
...After many, many years, my wife and myself finally got to go to India and although my wife is of Indian extraction, she knows of no relatives in the sub-continent. We were not without contacts however in Mumbai, which we had originally meant to use as a stepping stone for further travel but due to many conflicting priorities and circumstances, we were confined to that city for the duration of our two weeks in India.
Mumbai though, was a revelation. It is well off the usual tourist tours offered by the UK operators such as Bales or TravelSphere. Many people will only use it as a stepping stone before traveling onto other more glamourous places in India but it does deserve a closer look as there are many sites and experiences on offer.
I found that the thoughts and feelings that Mumbai imparted will stay with me for far...

Salaam Bombay !
Advantages: A magical city of contrasts, that is coping inspite of all odds
Disadvantages: There are many
...Mumbai derives its name from Mumba Devi a local diety worshipped by the Maratha fisher folk of the region. Mumba Devi is the goddess of sea and according to folklores she blessed the region and took care of the Fisherman community.
When India was under the British rule the name Mumbai got slightly changed , as they were unable to pronounce the name , and was called Bombay for all official purposes. But the locals continued to refer to it as Mumbai or Bambai.. And after nearly 45 years after India gained its Independence , in the nineties , the city was officially called by its original name.
I grew up calling Mumbai as Bombay and I am yet to get used to calling it Mumbai. For me Bombay has remained a dream city, whatever the harsh realities may be, I still have a special feeling for this city.
I visited Mumbai in the late seventies as...

Mumbai (Bombay) is the best
Advantages: The business lifeline of India and South East Asia
Disadvantages: Population
...Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and is the most populous Indian city. Mumbai is located on an island off the west coast of India. With an estimated metropolitan population of 17 million, it is the third largest metropolitan area in the world, and clustered along with its outlying satellite townships. The city, which has a deep natural harbor, is also the largest port in western India, handling over half of India's passenger traffic. Mumbai is the commercial capital of India, and houses important financial institutions such as the Bombay Stock Exchange, and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies. Owing to the immense business opportunities available in Mumbai and the relatively high standard of living, it has attracted migrants from all over India and South Asia, making...

Mumbai (Bombay) The Blissfully Polluted City
Advantages: You will never get bored
Disadvantages: The sights of poverty and squarlor may be too much to take
...My parents never really enjoyed staying in Mumbai, it was too loud and over-crowded for them. However I loved every second of being there.
There was always so much going on that you never seem to get bored. And if you ever felt you needed a change of environment, you could easily jump into the many taxi's roaming about and ask the driver to whisk you away to another location.
You would also never be short of finding souvenir's for dear and near one's. Table-top stalls selling everything from personalized key-rings to tarot cards could be found at almost every street corner. Just make sure you do some haggling before you part with your cash as prices will always be quoted 4-fold more to what they originally are!
The key to making most of your stay in this great city is to 'plan ahead.' Make a list of all the attractions or the...

Mumbai: A Smog-filled Haven
Advantages: Great sights, fun people, fantastic food, and brimming with culture
Disadvantages: Pollution, noise, touts, and the initial culture shock
...'t for the plethora of both Indian and foreign tourists wandering through the complex, you would probably constantly have the feeling that someone was watching you.
The food on offer is absolutely fantastic as well; make sure that you indulge heartily in the seafood while you are there. The Bombay Duck (actually a fish called the bombil), although famous across the world, is a little underwhelming, but the pomfret, lobster, crab, rawas (white salmon) and prawns are absolutely saliva-inducingly delicious. The restaurant Mahesh Lunch Home (which you should be able to find in any guidebook worth its salt) is magnificent, and although it is expensive by Indian standards, a stunning three-course meal for around £7 is good in my book. Make sure you tuck into the malai kulfi afterwards!
This is not to say that Mumbai does not have its drawbacks...

Mumbai, cant miss on tour of India
Advantages: very developed compare to other part of India, food, nice people
Disadvantages: crowd and humid weather
...Mumbai, a dream city for any Indian living out side Mumbai. Commercial hub, finance capital, entertainment capital and list go on... It is most populated and most happening city of India.
I had been to Mumbai for 4-5 times. Everytime I found new face of Mumbai. But the common thing which has never change is friendly people, cheap food, busy streets and very busy local trains (after bomb blast in trains I have not been in Mumbai so not sure about local train scenario).
In my intial years of life when I visited mumbai to see family members, I hated it. So polluted, populated and little complicated to understand at first instance.
After that slowly I geared up with pace of city. It is really fast but friendly. Nobody care about others business in normal circumstances.
If you want to see real mumbai visit chopaty beach, juhu beach...

Get Onboard for your Tour of Mumbai
Advantages: read the review
Disadvantages: pollution, i guess
...I don’t mean any harm by this review. This review is just for fun. There were too many intresting but bland reviews coming up, so I thought I’ll whiff up an humorous review on Mumbai. So here goes .
This tour will give you the real flavour of the metropolis and its surroundings. I bet that there is no other tour of this kind of this City named MUMBAI. So get ready !
The Station - Start off the day with your morning prayers. An hour in the Virar Super - Duper fast train will give you a chance to reemember the Indian deity of your choice. If you are into gambling, then indulge in some top-of-the-suitcase card games. Tone your body as you move in and out of the train !
Dairies ??? - Be a part of Mumbai’s dairy culture. Go to Jogesgwari and watch these graceful animals do their stuff. If you are lucky...

Bombay, in the eyes of a western foreigner
Advantages: Excellent value for money, lovely polite people
Disadvantages: you can get mugged, Poverty
...As my parents were born in India, they try to take us back to their country so that we keep in touch with our roots every so often. I had just finished my GCSE's, and my parents organised a trip to India as a present for me to say well done. There was me, my two younger brothers and my mum. The perception of Bombay or Mumbai that Im going to write is truly my opinion, and I mean no offence to anyone.
I arrived in the monsoon season in India, which was in July, as soon as we landed; all I could see was shanty towns and huts everywhere from the plane window. As soon as we got off, oh god! Literally if felt like walking into an oven, it was so stuffy!! Now, all those familiar with India, know about the dodgy police.
For those who don't, let me quickly fill you in. As these poor guys get very little wage, and I mean very little, if I...

Mumbai in 2 days!
Advantages: Food, atmosphere, book shops
Disadvantages: Always busy!
...We visited Mumbai last month as part of a longer trip in India. We only had 2 days to see the main attractions and thoroughly enjoyed it. Below is a short guide of how to do Mumbai in 2 days.
Guidebook: Lonely Planet's Best of Mumbai does the trick. Short, concise and well written. Also, buy yourself the local Timeout which is a great source for finding out what's on in the city.
Staying: Marine Plaza on Marine Drive. Very good service, right on the corniche looking out over the sea.
Travelling: You must experience the Ambassador Black/Yellow taxi cabs - with their neon lights and leopard print seat covers, they are a fun ride. Most taxi cab drivers will be more than happy to offer you a daily rate and will drive you to wherever you want to go and wait for you to return. I recommend this if, like us, you only have a short...
