...I stayed in this hotel on my first visit to Munich in Easter. I travelled down to Munich from Berlin by train with a friend. The hotel is centrally located and it only took us ten minutes walk to get to there. The reception/lobby is not a huge place but has all you need. They have a big shelves with lots of maps/guides. The lady at the desk was friendly. After checking us in, she even helped us with our last minute booking on a day trip. As with many of the European hotel I've been to, there is only one very small lift which can only fit in about 2 persons, provided both are small. Fortunately, both of us are quite small and we had small suitcases, we could both go up at the same time. kings hotel

Advantages: cheap but luxurious

...One of the best hotels Ive stayed in and Ive stayed in many. We went in december out of season and got a double room for about 30 pounds. Bargain. I was happily surprised when I openend the door and found a gorgeous room with a four poster bed. Vey elegant. The room was lovely and warm and the bathroom was very modern if a bit on the small side but who cares the shower was great. There was loads of useful brochures about munich. There was a wonderful breakfast buffet in the morning. well it was more like a three course meal, there was everything meat, fish, cheese as well as all the other breakfast usuals. The staff were proffesional and genuinely friendly and not at all arrogant. well reccomended!!!!!!...

A good place to spend a weekend in Munich

Advantages: nice and tidy rooms, good service, yummy breakfast
Disadvantages: not that easy to reach without a car

...This year in March we stayed for a weekend in the DERAG Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth in Munich. (4 stars) We found the hotel over the internet: http://www.deraghotels.de/en/ -------------------- room: The double bed room was really nice and tidy. Bathroom was big and clean with a bath and shower. Towles and hairdryer were provided. We also had a little kitchen with dishes, microwave and kettle. In front of the double bed was a little living area, with couch, two chairs and a little table. Every room is equipped with: high speed interent access and TV ---------------------- costs: double: 110 Euro per night including breakfast. Munich - A Beautiful Bavarian

The Munich massacre - its aftermath, as noted by Spielberg

Advantages: Incredibly powerful drama in places
Disadvantages: Takes too long to get anywhere

...Munich is a poignant and dramatic, slow-moving Spielberg film that has at its core the effects and fallout from the 1972 Munich Olympic Games massacre. Members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually killed by a group known as Black September, reported to have ties to a militant group linked to the Fatah organisation. The film opens with some graphic scenes showing the massacre within the first five or ten minutes, before Spielberg introduces us to the squad of assassins who then plan to hunt down 11 Black September members and kill them as revenge. It is a very suspenseful and dramatic film, with patience needed throughout. Do not expect a fast paced tense thriller, because that's not what this is about. Does the Excelsior excel?

...I stayed at the Hotel Excelsior in Munich on a brief overnight stay following a business trip to Munich. The hotel had been recommended by the BayernLB, who I was visiting as part of the trip, and they'd been able to get me a very favourable rate - of EUR 118 for a night including breakfast which was a considerable saving over the rack rate for the hotel. It was particularly practical as the hotel was only a couple of hundred metres from the main railway station (Munich Hbf) which made it a good choice as I could drop my bags off on my way past on the way to the bank. I cose to check in at the same time - and despite the fact that my room was not ready, they were fine about this and had my luggage taken to my room as soon as it did become ready. Probably the best and also worst hostel in Munich

Advantages: No kerfew, breakfasts, cheap bar, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Its not very clean

...a general idea. When you get to the front of the que a feast greats you, aswell as the general cereal and toast options there are also a variety of cold meats, cheeses, and breads, aswell as eggs, and pate. Accompanying this is good coffee or tea and two types of juice. After a night of German excess this is the perfect antidote. The resturant doubles as a bar in the evening with a small beer garden. The bar staff are friendly and obviously speak very good English, and they offer their own draught beer aswell as Dunkels from a bottle. It is alot cheaper than you will find anywhere else in Munich, especially if you can hold on to the rather flimsy wristband that is handed to you when you check in. This will allow you happy hour drinking and means you can get a full stein for about 4.50 euros, compared to the average of 7 euros in the rest...

Munich Walk Tour

...Last summer I was in Munich to see an art exhibition. I didn´t have any plans for the afternoon and when I saw a leaflet ´Munich Walk Tours in English´, (from May 17th to August 31st daily 10:45 am and 3:00 pm, from Sept. 1st to Oct. 31st daily 10:45, meeting point in front of the town hall entrance under the Glockenspiel on Marienplatz, 9 Euro, under 26 years 8 Euro, children under 14 with an adult free), I thought, why not? Why not find out what foreigners tell foreigners about Munich? Still on the Marienplatz the guide, a young woman from Australia started with a survey over the history of Munich from the year it was officially founded up to today and covered 800 years in about 10 minutes. Our tour wasn´t specified as a historical tour, it was just a general introduction, but we heard more about the reign of the Royal Family...
