Arty Des Arts!
Advantages: Original building, nice and clean and decent rooms
Disadvantages: Could have quirkier rooms to match the rest of the hotel.
...perceived it from stood outside. Inside was a mix of modern touches such as the small lobby lounge with a flat screen pc for guests to use mixed in with the artistic and very Parisian style furniture and the art that hung on nearly every wall. I actually if I'm honest couldn't decide if I liked it or not as I did because it was boutique and intimate and at the same time some of the decor was too 'old fashioned' looking for my taste. However I think if you came to this hotel you wouldn't be disgusted by it and as you don't recoil in horror when you check in to a hotel that that has to be a good thing!
The rooms:
I would say I expected the rooms to be different after the decor of the hotel in the lobby and I guess it was because they seemed a little boring somehow - the lobby area had nice chairs and lots of art along with flowers...

Quality Art At The Musee d'Orsay
Advantages: Art, cool design, plenty to look at
Disadvantages: Pricey, hard to navigate
...The Musee d'Orsay used to be the Gare d'Orsay, it has been converted from an old railway station into an art gallery. The building itself is on Rue Bellechasse and from the outside looks like an old railway station, of course many of the windows are now covered and the entrances closed. Inside is a different story as a mix of ideas and designs have transformed the interior into an interesting place to display art.
You can expect to queue for a good half hour to get in but it is well worth it. If you are aged 18-25 it costs 33 francs and otherwise it will cost you 45 francs, £4.50, which makes it one of the more expensive attractions on offer. What do you get for your money? Well in this case you get access to some of the most famous art in the world, including paintings by Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Pisarro and Sisley...

Pause For A Muse
Advantages: Some great tracks,
Disadvantages: Not a huge progression
...When Muse came onto the scene with their debut album they were dismissed by some as a Radiohead clone. Yes there was a vocalist with a big vocal range, the songs were a bit off kilter and not in the norm, and there were some weird sounds. So what? With their second album Origin of Symmetry Muse proved that they rock harder than Radiohead.
Now we have Absolution, the third studio album and after a 9/10 score from the NME it?s safe to say that Muse are on the up once again. I?ve been listening to the album for a few weeks now and bought it yesterday. It?s already growing on me and fans of their previous records won?t be disappointed.
The album opens with an intro of marching before erupting into the striking piano riff of ?Apocalypse Please?. The song moves through epic strides of sound from all angles as well as having a harmonious...

Muse - The Resistance
Advantages: Varied, Different, Special
Disadvantages: Not consistant
...It?s been a long time coming. 3 years since Black Holes and Revelations Muse have returned with The Resistance and with a weight of expectation that would crush lesser bands the Devon dwelling trio have found new strength, a new sound and new ways to rock your socks.
From the outset with first single Uprising, the tone is set. The lyrics are heaving with paranoia and the crowd-pleasing, pounding beats set us up for a wild ride. Resistance tugs the heartstrings with Matt Bellamy declaring ?Love is our Resistance? to the frantic drums of Dom Howard. As if it wasn?t clear enough from the opening track, Muse are back.
Undisclosed Desires is the first sign of experimentation. The band sounds comfortable in the clearly unfamiliar territory of a song described cheekily as the ?anti muse song?. It?s not as good as the previous two songs and is...

Muse-d Up - The Resistance
Advantages: Brilliant, The Exo-Genesis Tracks, DVD - Making of The Resistance, Orgasmic, Mysterious
Disadvantages: Few Tracks are not upto standard to what i thought
...I was wondering when the new album is going to come out. This album did not disappoint me at all. The title might have been fortunate to be called ?The Resistance? since I really could not resist buying this straight away.
The first thing that I liked about is the cover art; a man in front of a multi-coloured circular ball/globe(?). It definitely does bring out the whole album. Also, if you look at it long enough, you will see that the image is going in towards the Earth but as a whole, it just looks like a globe.
01. Uprising
This track is one of my favourite in the album. It is quite alienating at some point and very upbeat. This track, I think sets the new album as a totally new different style to Muse?s other album.
02. Resistance
This track is my favourite in the album. It has got a mixture of instruments used. I really like...

'Tis an Art... museum! (Sorry)
Advantages: Hundreds of famous works of art.
Disadvantages: Sensory overload.
...If you enjoy visiting art museums, Paris really is the place to go to. In the last 20 years or so, Paris museums re-organised their collections and the musée d'Orsay became the receptacle for art dated between 1848 and 1914.
~The Gare d'Orsay~
**********************
The building that houses the collection used to be a train station and hotel, which due to its proximity to the Louvre needed to be built sympathetically. Its inauguration in 1900 revealed a very fine building where the stone façade hid the metal structure inside. At the time, the painter Edouard Detaille wrote ""The station is superb and looks like a Palais des beaux-arts...". Little did he know that he was writing a prophesy?
After 1939, the progressive electrification of the railroads meant that the platforms were now too short to accommodate the new, longer...

Muse - Origin Of Symmetry
Advantages: Brilliant, energetic music
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!?
...After recently watching one of the best live performances I've ever seen at Reading Festival this bank holiday weekend, I felt it completely necessary to review what is, in my opinion, Muse's best album to date; Origin Of Symmetry.
After the general success of their debut Showbiz, this second album raised them into the high-society of headlining rock music acts. After this weekend's show, it's easy to see why Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard are thought of so highly.
Opener New Born, is simply breath-taking. The piano introduction builds the song up perfectly, with Bellamy's eerie vocals - Thom Yorke-esque at times - acting as a perfect compliment. Then it all happens. The piano's die down and it comes the electric guitars, with a riff full of energy, rhythm and excitment. From then on the verses keep the tempo...

MUSE HYSTERIA
Advantages: Big move up in quality from the second album
Disadvantages: unecessary 'intro' and 'interlude' tracks
...This is the third album from brit-rockers Muse.Always a formidable live band, the first album was patchy whilst 'Origin of symmetry' tailed off poorly at the end. This marks their first fully realised album. Matt Bellamy's reigned in the vocal acrobatics a bit and the songs, whilst musically complex at times, have some fine pop choruses.
The openning 'intro' is just the sound of the band stampign their feet which isn't really necessary, and the same can be said about the later 'interlude'. 'Apocalypse Please' follows and is a monstorous slice of music, with pounding drums and futuristic sound effects. 'Time is running out' is similarly bombastic, with a chorus built for singing along and some very cool sounding finger clicking. 'Sing for absolution' is the first ballad and has some particuarly nice guitar touches. It's tender yet...

Manon Des Sources - Part 2
Advantages: Even more emotional and an excellent continuation of the story
Disadvantages: Darker than the first film
...So here's the concluding part of my Jean De Florette / Manon Des Sources review. I'm hoping you've read that one first; if not, go back and read it! This won't make sense unless you've read that one first, just as watching Manon Des Sources won't make much sense unless you've first watched Jean De Florette. They're two parts of the same story, and really, this is just the second part of the same review.
Also, I have to warn you, it's virtually impossible to give any analysis of this film without revealing the major plot details of the first film, but I'll try my best not to ruin it.
So, Manon Des Sources. Again, it's directed by Claude Berri, adapted from the novel by Marcel Pagnol, and stars Yves Montand and Daniel Auteuil. This was released in the same year as the other, 1986, and this was also nominated for Best Foreign...

Krak des Chevaliers-ultimate castle experience
Advantages: Beautiful, imposing and impressive medieval castle
Disadvantages: Slightly difficult to get to independently
...Krak des Chevaliers (Castle of the Knights) is the ultimate medieval castle and the dream of any child who ever played at knights and dragons or other games on the theme of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It is one of few places I have been that has exceeded the childhood fantasy and taken on an imagination of its own.
Given its largely European appearance Krak des Chevaliers stands out somewhat in its location in south Syria near the town of Homs. The principal reason for this apparent anomaly is of course that the castle was primarily built by Order of the Knights of St John between 1142 and 1271 and is a classic crusader castle. There was a pre-existing structure on the site when the crusaders came through the region but this was hugely expanded upon due to the areas important position between Turkish towns and Beirut...
