Musical Fidelity A5.5 CD......

Advantages: Sweet,smooth & natural....Exceptional with voices...Great build...Above all, musical.
Disadvantages: At the price, nothing of significance...

...I have owned & heard many quality cd players throughout the years. Some good, some exceptional & some disappointing. Many players seem to focus on getting all the hifi criteria right, obsessed with the deepest bass,the widest soundstage, unearthing the last detail etc and to be honest it can all get a bit frustrating. Yes, all these things are great in a quick listen or impressing your friends for a few moments but there is more to it than that. I want something more from the music collection I have spent years putting together. I want something that sounds musical...something that does not favour any particular music, and is not downright impossible to match into a system. My first impression of the A5.5 was my lasting one. This sounds natural. This sounds like music and not hifi. My first few hours were spent not making apologies...

Musical Fidelity XRAY V3 CD player

...I bought X-Ray V3 CD player along with the X-150 amp 3 months ago as a major upgrade to my main Hi-Fi system. Speakers used are my Monitor Audio Silver 9i's. The first thing you notice when you take the X-ray V3 out of the box is the sheer quality of it. It is made of solid (about 4 or 5mm) aluminium a in a cute little half-rack sized chassis and looks fantastic. But you dont buy a CD player because it looks nice I know, but it's a big plus for me. The remote is nice to use and finds the player from awkward angles and a long distance, so no messing about trying to get it to work when not sat in your usual listening position. Put simply I have never heard music sounding as "real" anywhere bar a live performance. The difference I find between this CD player and other players is the mid range detail. ...I was given this player to keep me occupied on my many long bus and train journeys. THE PLAYER This is a Japanese mp3 and CD player, which comes in a silver and blue top with a grey base. It is 13cmx13cmx2½cm which is about average size, so its more bag sized than pocket sized. It comes with an adapter and ear bud type headphones. It only has a small display area, so only displays limited information on it, such as which track and album or how long the song has been playing for. There are also little icons to display what modes you have it on, which are discussed later. ...I came across this product whilst bored after doing my homework, fantasising about an ipod so I could store all my music. Whilst searching around the Internet I stumbled over many CD Mp3 players. I'd never heard of them before so I was intrigued to find out more. I had owned a Sony Minidisc player for about 2 years, and had become fed up with having to change the Minidisc every so often (yes I'm very lazy!) and it had become broken and did not want to send it of to the manufacturers to mend it which would have been very costly. A CD Mp3 player can store up to 30 albums onto one CD. This is very handy and by far easier than my previous Minidisc player is. This CD player comes with 2x AA alkaline rechargeable batteries which makes it possible to enjoy non-stop audio entertainment for up to 150 hours!!!! THE SOFTWARE Included...

CD/MP3 player of kings

Advantages: MP3 playback and long battery life
Disadvantages: The random function doesn't work properly

...Whenever I?ve had to choose a CD player like this, for me or for a present, the first thing I look at is the battery time. This is what first led me to this player, it advertises 30+ hours of CD playback and 48 hours of mp3 playback (these are for non-stop playback, with no skipping. Using the skip a lot will reduce battery time and giving it resting time between playbacks increases battery time.) Those numbers seemed pretty amazing to me from just 2AA batteries. So I bought it.... The round shape looks great and I can?t see how a CD player could get much smaller. It feels very well built, and it takes very big bumps (unusually big) to get it to skip. The remote control is useful for whenever you are carrying it around in your pocket or a bag and don?t want to have to reach into your pocket and fumble around for the buttons...

An Atrac-tive player

...Once upon a time I had a car, and it had a radio that didn't work and a cassette player that did. So I used to tape my CD's onto cassettes to listen to in the car.
