Reviews of mustek
It was not a Mustek to buy it
Review of Mustek 600 CP by
fubb
Advantages: Cheap and reliable, good photo quality.
Disadvantages: Limited Photo editing software.
...The Mustek 600 cp is the only scanner I have owned, not that it is the only scanner I have tried. I have tried many, but I keep sticking with my 600 cp.
The main reason is Quality of picture, especially for the web, setting the resolution to 700 rather than the default 300. The scanning software interacts well with all other programs, even Macromedia, but I tend not to use the editing package that comes with it, as it is a little limited but that is the market it is amid at.
It also does not mind sharing a printer card with your local printer this makes for ease of instalment. Over all it is a good little scanner and a bargain at the price....

Mustek magic
Review of Mustek 600 CP by
neilmoore67
Advantages: good quality, fast, cheap
Disadvantages: very average software, high resolution causes system crashes
...Mustek 600 CPs scanners are a very good buy. I bought mine for less than £30 and it was worth every penny. The scan quality is excellent and it is fast and easy to use.
It scans photos and postcards very, very well but it tends to struggle with magazines and newspapers which reflects the quality of these publications. It takes typically two to three minutes to scan a photograph in 600 dpi. This quality setting gives crystal clear scans at the same size as the source but when a bigger bitmap is required it may need a higher quality setting which can cause crashes.
You would be well advised to simply download the drivers from Mustek.com rather than use the software CD, as the scans work better and you can choose to use only Paint Shop Pro or similar for your image editing.
Beware users of Windows ME and 2000, the CD software doesn...

cheap and cheerful
Review of Mustek Be@rPaw 2448 TA Plus by
mebigbadjoe
Advantages: cheap sturdy good resoulution
Disadvantages: some problems with xp
...bought this at local pc shop as my other Mustek brokedown. upon opening was pleasently suprised by the design better than most scanners at this end of the market. but sadly did have some driver conflicts with Windows xp in the end tho got it to work perfectly on wifes pc running Windows ME. If you are looking for a no frills scanner with an up to date design just for scanning photos etc.. at home then this is the one for you. Resoulution is better than you would expect for a scanner in this price bracket. You can adjust and play about with your scanned photos, pics etc with the bundled software. my rating 7/10 would have given it more if Mustek where a little easier with customer support on their website....

Pros and Cons
Review of Mustek 600 CP by
denver.brown
Advantages: Cheap, Reliable, Easy to use
Disadvantages: old technology, not as fancy as newer models
...We were given a Mustek 600 CP by my father in law when he upgraded his system. Who would want outdated hardware?
I would simply say that this scaner is good for what it is, cheap and easy to use.
Its picture quality is good, and it is easy to use.
The software makes life simply, all you need to do is lift the scanner open and the memory resident software goes into action.
I can be used instead of a fax machine, or as a scanner, I have used it to scan and e-mail photos and there hasn't been a problem, also it has served as an emergency photo copier....

Its no Mustek
Review of Mustek ScanExpress 1200 UB Plus by
kimbowa
Advantages: Cheap, low profile and easy to use
Disadvantages: Limited funtionality
...I got my Mustek 12000UB during 2000 and found it to be a great investment. It cost me less than 40 pounds brand new and is surprisingly good at what it does. It came packaged with a very slick, albeit limited, software suite that includes all the functions necessary to Fax, Photocopy, Scan images and text and an entry level version of Xerox's Textbridge. All in all I do very little scanning at home but needed to have one there for the odd urgent job. Since then I've used it regularly and encountered very few problems. The OCR software sometimes produces erratic results when the original source is not clear - but then I've used top of the range OCR software that does the smae thing. The software does not deal with formatted text, such as columns and tables, but I've devised a few shortcuts to minimise the limitations. The image...

MUSTEK MAKES FOR A GOOD SCAN
Review of Mustek ScanExpress 6000P by
emlin
Advantages: Excellent quality reproduction
Disadvantages: Loud
...I bought the Mustek model of scanner becasue of the excellent clarity of reproduction. However, I was a bit amused to find that the product has a loud sound when scanning. I don't mean a little whisper either, I mean a BIG SOUND!
If you can imagine an old truck as it starts up early on a cold morning, you may get the idea of just how loud the scanner sounds while scanning. This sound is present during both the Pre-scan and Scan feature. It's almost as if it annouces to the neighborhood that I am transferring pictures to my cpu.
It's a great flatbed scanner, though, and reproduces well anything I scan from books to photos to illustrations. I sell books on internet auction sites and it's a snap to scan the covers for my file transfers. The Mustek 6000P offers a 30-bit color scanning system and comes with the software needed to edit...

NO MORE "ARE WE THERE YET?"
Review of Mustek PL207 by
whybird
Advantages: Keeps the Kids Quiet on Journeys. Widescreen
Disadvantages: None, yet.
...We were looking for one of these for a long time, and eventually found this on the internet. I checked out a few prices and reviews, after all, we had never heard of "Mustek", but this machine seemed to be highly thought of and well priced. We got it for £179.99, but I forget where from.
The dvd player plays everything perfectly. Picture quality is great, and sound is just enough for its size. It comes with an adaptor to plug into the cigarette lighter, and a mains one too. The battery charges quickly, and lasts about 3 hours, plenty of time for a film to play.
The best thing however is the fact that it is a widescreen dvd player. The screen is 7 inches wide, and if you think that most dvd's are produced in this format, it makes perfect sense. Some of the cheaper portable players are in 4:3 format.
This was a godsend...

Average scanner
Review of Mustek 1200 CU by
Shaunc
Advantages: Cheap. Slimline.
Disadvantages: Always 'on', Average quality scans
.... This to me suggests some fault with the scanners power management perhaps. I emailed Mustek about it and their advice was to 'Turn it off at the mains'. Laughable.
Would I recommend it?? Probably not, as they now do an updated version which uses the usb cable for it power. The image quality is average at best, but then it was only £60....

the camera is not as good as it sounds
Review of Mustek MDC 6500Z by
markhayward
Advantages: when conditions are good picture quality is ok, very cheap
Disadvantages: not durable, broke somehow, very poor customer service
...the problem of the extreamly slow picture taking. once you press the button you have to wait a good few seconds tills the picture is taken. this means that if you are taking pictures of moving objects by the time the picture is taken you may have missed what you were photographing.
- the durability of the camera and the reliability is unbelievably poor. the camera for no apprent reason stopped charging and eventually the LCD screen stopped working and was just black and then the camera turned on the lens came out and then the camera turned off with the len still out and the camera has n ot turned on since.
- musteks customer service was almost as poor as the reliability of the camera. apprarently mustek only really operate in the US and germany and maby one or two other eastern european countries so i ended up attempting to sort the camera...
