Ideal for casual users with a free USB port
Advantages: good value for money, convenient USB plug-n-play feature, includes a decent OCR text recognition program
Disadvantages: a fairly redundant image-editing program, requires a USB port to function
...As far as scanners go, this one should more than meet the needs of users who adapt it to any non-professional application. I acquired the Mustek 1200 UB just over a year ago (costing about £45, though this is a vague estimate, since it came bundled with my PC), and have been more than satisfied with its performance. Its plug-n-scan status means that, through a USB interface, one need only plug it into one’s PC for the green light to come on and for it to start working. The necessity of an additional power supply is thus eliminated entirely (though a USB port is obviously essential).
The scanner comes bundled with Ulead PhotoExpress 2.0 SE, the main scanning and image-editing program, and TextBridge Classic 2.0, a very useful program that uses OCR technology to recognize letters on scanned documents, faxes, and even images...

Take your filthy paws off my scanner
Advantages: No extra power cable, light weight
Disadvantages: Slow, problems with Windows service pack 2
...For some reason I have never had much luck with scanners, I have had about 4 in my life time and each of the first 3 have died some nasty death, the worst being that the last one decided to start smoking before the glass cover shattered. Anyway, I luckily stumbled across my latest scanner a couple of years ago, being the Mustek Be@rPaw 1200CU Plus scanner, and other than a couple of issues with it working on XP service pack 2; it has been a real star.
►►► The Look
This is what I would definitely call a slimline flatbed scanner and at just 3.7 cm in height I would hope you would agree. The rest of the scanner is pretty much a standard size with a width of approx 28cm and a depth of just over 40cm. It is no surprise that a machine as compact in size as it is does not weigh much and at 1.8 kg it is one...

The Wii Fit Plus is an excellent add on, and great fun!
Advantages: fun, good for you, multiplayer
Disadvantages: none really
...The wii fit has been keeping me happy for quite a while now, but eventually when you have played and tried all the games within it eventually it gets left in a box behind the sofa, for 72 days according to my wii fit. So when i saw the Wii Fit plus was for sale I pre ordered it straight away, it gives a much needed new enjoyable boost into the what was already great wii fit.
There are many extra fun things to do whilst getting fit with the Wii Fit Plus in my opinion. One of the great things is that it transfers all of your data from the wii fit easily and quickly in one click. You can now weigh your babies and pets on this. There are three new yoga moves - Spine extension, gate and grounded V. Three new Muscle workouts - Balance bridge, Side lunge and Single leg reach.
However there are two new sections which I find great these are...

Its no Mustek
Advantages: Cheap, low profile and easy to use
Disadvantages: Limited funtionality
...I got my Mustek 12000UB during 2000 and found it to be a great investment. It cost me less than 40 pounds brand new and is surprisingly good at what it does. It came packaged with a very slick, albeit limited, software suite that includes all the functions necessary to Fax, Photocopy, Scan images and text and an entry level version of Xerox's Textbridge. All in all I do very little scanning at home but needed to have one there for the odd urgent job. Since then I've used it regularly and encountered very few problems. The OCR software sometimes produces erratic results when the original source is not clear - but then I've used top of the range OCR software that does the smae thing. The software does not deal with formatted text, such as columns and tables, but I've devised a few shortcuts to minimise the limitations. The image...

At under 30 quid will it cut the Mustard
Advantages: Price is cheap for a good budget scanner
Disadvantages: If I was paying £100 then I would pick faults. Im not so I wont
...around the shop and found a few scanners under the sub £50 mark. I asked the salesman which scanners were XP compatible in my price range and he recommended the Mustek 1200 UB Plus, which had the new software and drivers on the disk rather than downloading them from a website. I was a little unsure of the scanner because of the cheapest model, but was reassured when talking to the salesman while paying for it. He told me he used the same model scanner at home and he rated it far better over much higher priced models and he found the quality of the scanner very high.
You can tell the scanner is of a cheap nature by its quality of the plastic. However the scanner itself is of below average size (41cm x 27 cm x 5 cm) and weight (2.9KG) but still has the same size glass surface as my old model. The main feature than impressed me over my past...

The Ultimate in Home Scanners
Advantages: Great software included; clear imaging
Disadvantages: Scanning is perhaps a bit slow; scanner can be quite noisy
...After my less than flattering review of the Epson Color Stylus 300, I thought it is time to embark on my next challenge: a review of the Mustek 1200 UB. This won't mean much to many of you, but it is, in fact, a colour scanner.
I got the scanner when I bought my home PC several years ago. I do not use it that often, but it certainly comes in handy at times when I need a quick copy and it is inconvenient to go out and get a photocopy.
Let me tell you a little more about it.
The Mustek UB 1200 is a nice compact scanner measuring 21.6cm by 29.7 cm (8.5" x 11.7") and weighing 2.3kg. The technical term for it is a 'Flatbed Colour Scanner', but I shall just refer to it as a scanner.
Like any other home scanner, its design is quite simple. It has a document cover which lifts up to reveal the scan glass window, and a USB cable...

Cheap but Very Cheerful!
Advantages: It does the job
Disadvantages: Nosiy and a little slow
...I recently wrote an review on my 6 year old almost antique printer, well here is the review of the Mustek 1200 UB Scanner that came as part of that same package, as I am not too much of a technical person, I will try and explain in plain English without the technical jargon that I feel sometimes goes over us non technical folks heads.
I don’t use it perhaps as frequently as some would require, maybe in the whole 6 years I’ve had the scanner probably scanned around 200 times or so, but I believe it’s a good quality budget scanner as you can now pick one up for around £25, maybe even cheaper at a car boot sale or ebay, well worth checking out.
The scanner itself does not look of superior quality, it does look rather basic in a light grey plastic, the lid is rather lightweight with a black spongy inner for protection...

Irias and the technology..
Advantages: intensively colors
Disadvantages: OCR function
...of the Mustek 1200 USB pluses. Since my old scanner gave noises like an old tractor of itself, I was with my first scanning with Mustek at the beginning of always in the faith that the equipment does not function, since I heard hardly noises. exact listening can one a completely quiet humming hear, which works however in no case disturbing.
Recommendable or not?
To the scanning of pictures the Mustek 1200 USB plus in any case is recommendable. The colors are the image definition come very intensively and also the original very near. The Mustek scanner has weaknesses with the speed. Of the more active preview up to the finished scanned picture well times 1 minute can offense. Also text recognition with the OCR function fails with me in principle. Only over the detour over the FineReader good results are to be obtained.
For the domestic purposes...

Fed up with losing photo's?
Advantages: Ease of use and long lasting
Disadvantages: None that spring to mind
...Well here we have it, can't say I was impressed when I first got this scanner! My reason for that is that I didn't actually know what it was or how to work it, having seen one before.
It was 2nd May 2000 (back in the days of WIndows 98SE) when I decided to get my first ever internet going PC in my house, with it I got the Mustek 1200 UB Plus scanner. Borrowed the PC repair man from the local IT shop who came round and set it all up for me and showed me how to use it all. (All went well and we married this year, I know it's off topic but sorry).
Anyhow, so I have this scanner. Great! Soon I was borrowing photo's from all my family to scan and have copies of them backed up onto floppy disc's. (Sigh... they were the days! Now using CD's and DVD's - great for family get togethers).
5 and a half years later the scanner is still going...

Sky Plus is a Plus
Advantages: Record, rewind, series link
Disadvantages: Expensive, bad customer service
...If you love TV then you probably love your Sky + box and if you haven't already got one you really really need to get one. For me this box is definitely a Plus with one little Minus but I will get to that later.
Sky + is a personal video recorder that allows the user to record, pause and instantly rewind live TV. It works in conjunction with a Sky television subscription. It was launched in September 2001 and in February 2008 Sky announced that over 3 million households now have a Sky + box.
Sky + is such a benefit to have. You access all the features of the recorder through your Sky + remote.
Recording - Sky + allows you to record any programme that you like. It is very simple to do. You do not have to set any timers or set up any video tapes, etc, the show is saved as hardware on the Sky box. Basically you search through...
