NO MORE "ARE WE THERE YET?"
Review of Mustek PL207 by
whybird
Advantages: Keeps the Kids Quiet on Journeys. Widescreen
Disadvantages: None, yet.
...We were looking for one of these for a long time, and eventually found this on the internet. I checked out a few prices and reviews, after all, we had never heard of "Mustek", but this machine seemed to be highly thought of and well priced. We got it for £179.99, but I forget where from.
The dvd player plays everything perfectly. Picture quality is great, and sound is just enough for its size. It comes with an adaptor to plug into the cigarette lighter, and a mains one too. The battery charges quickly, and lasts about 3 hours, plenty of time for a film to play.
The best thing however is the fact that it is a widescreen dvd player. The screen is 7 inches wide, and if you think that most dvd's are produced in this format, it makes perfect sense. Some of the cheaper portable players are in 4:3 format.
This was a godsend...

A Superb Player at a Great Price
Review of Mustek DVD PL 407 H by
laverack2
Advantages: Good sound and picture quality, Light and easy to carry, Plays many types of disc
Disadvantages: Battery life average
...I bought this little dvd player earlier in 2004, and at the time I managed to pick it up at a bargain price. I searched around several stores, including Dixons, but could not find a satisfactory portable dvd player for a price I could afford. However, I found the Mustek player at an unlikely source: Toys R Us! I picked up the player at a superb price of £150, including a travel/in car kit. In the following review, I will outline the reasons why I chose it, and also, how it still lives up to many other rivals in 2005.
CONTENTS OF PACKAGE
Unlike many other portable DVD players, the Mustek comes with an array of useful accesories. The box contained a strong carry case, with several pockets in wich to store headphones, remote control etc. The case has 6 slots in which straps (included) can be used to mount the player in the car...

Portable DVD player AHOY
Review of Mustek MP 70 D by
matty168
Advantages: Cheap, Easy to use
Disadvantages: None really
...I first came across Portable DVD players on a trip to Thailand and i was very tempted to get one however the cost didn't seem worth it. However i've been glads to see that the price of them in the UK have fallen dramatically so therefore i chose to snap one up.
I chose the Mustek MP 70 D as it seemed like a good buy at just under £150 and it was a brand i was familiar with as they make scanners.
The great thing about portable DVD players is that it can keep you occupied on a long trip. Since it has an integrated screen,it is no surprise they are becoming very popular-especially when you consider that DVD films are so cheap to buy nowadays with prices starting from around £1!!.
-------------------
Personal Use
-----------
I generally use my portable DVD player when i go on train trips as i travel quite a lot. I usually charge it up...

It was not a Mustek to buy it
Review of Mustek 600 CP by
fubb
Advantages: Cheap and reliable, good photo quality.
Disadvantages: Limited Photo editing software.
...The Mustek 600 cp is the only scanner I have owned, not that it is the only scanner I have tried. I have tried many, but I keep sticking with my 600 cp.
The main reason is Quality of picture, especially for the web, setting the resolution to 700 rather than the default 300. The scanning software interacts well with all other programs, even Macromedia, but I tend not to use the editing package that comes with it, as it is a little limited but that is the market it is amid at.
It also does not mind sharing a printer card with your local printer this makes for ease of instalment. Over all it is a good little scanner and a bargain at the price....

Watch DVD's on the move
Review of Mustek PL408 by
mcwright
Advantages: Great picture with good size screen, long battery life
Disadvantages: do not buy just for the TV
...Best buy that I have made in recent years. Keeps the children happy on long car trips, in the caravan, or anywhere else that they may get bored! Nice compact unit, my unit came with a smart black case that everything neatly packs into, this also doubles as the holder for attaching it between the two front seats so that those in the back all get a good view. We also got a car charger, a mains charger (to charge the battery or run the unit from the mains) and leads to connect it to a television making it just a dvd player on your home tv, this works very well. Battery when charged lasts long enough to watch at least 2 dvd's. Also has a remote control and points for 2 headsets should you not want to listen to "The Incredibles" for the 4th time while driving to Scotland!! The TV adapter however is a different story. Unless you...

Big Bang for your Buck
Review of Compaq Professional AP500 - PII 450 MHz by
duffer
Advantages: delivery, price
Disadvantages: poxy printer
...After assessing a number of machines and offers in the computer press I eventually placed an order with Polar Technology in Bedford. For £860 I got a celeron 533 with 64mb RAM, 10Gb Hard drive, 16mb Voodoo3 graphix card, DVD-ROM drive, 17" monitor, mustek scanner and a Hewlett Packard deskjet 640c printer. The system was delivered exactly when expected and upon connecting the various bits of kit together (thank you Maplin - why don't companies include effing USB leads?) was very pleased to find the system already fairly well configured with windows 98 as the OS. The scanner installed fine but the printer arrived without software, which I had to source form the net (flipping HP.....). The supplied Lotus SmartSuite software was a nice gimme, I suppose, but MS Office sets the standard and is so far ahead of SmartSuite I would have...

Mustek magic
Review of Mustek 600 CP by
neilmoore67
Advantages: good quality, fast, cheap
Disadvantages: very average software, high resolution causes system crashes
...Mustek 600 CPs scanners are a very good buy. I bought mine for less than £30 and it was worth every penny. The scan quality is excellent and it is fast and easy to use.
It scans photos and postcards very, very well but it tends to struggle with magazines and newspapers which reflects the quality of these publications. It takes typically two to three minutes to scan a photograph in 600 dpi. This quality setting gives crystal clear scans at the same size as the source but when a bigger bitmap is required it may need a higher quality setting which can cause crashes.
You would be well advised to simply download the drivers from Mustek.com rather than use the software CD, as the scans work better and you can choose to use only Paint Shop Pro or similar for your image editing.
Beware users of Windows ME and 2000, the CD software doesn...

You Mustek buy this one!
Review of Mustek PL207 by
masternewt
Advantages: Nice Size Screen, good price, lots of the parts made by Sony
Disadvantages: sound play back can be below avg on some dvd's
...I have owned my Mustek PL-207 for 3 months now, I paid only $220 dollars in the U.S.A. and that was with a free film working out to around 105 pounds.
Prices have come down now in the UK so you can pick this amazing bargain up for around 30 pounds more than I paid and although this machine is far from perfect it's the best bit of kit on the market for the price and can whole heartedly recommend it!.
Starting with the picture; I found it surprisingly good, I compared it with Panasonic and Goodmans models and it held its own against the Panasonic and beat the Goodmans hands down. The picture is crisp with good color saturation and only the bare minimum of ray trace.
The Sound was a mixed bag and I found it to be clear with good stereo output but tended to play the back ground score at a far greater level to the vocal sounds which some...

Fed up with losing photo's?
Review of Mustek ScanExpress 1200 UB Plus by
saucy77
Advantages: Ease of use and long lasting
Disadvantages: None that spring to mind
...Well here we have it, can't say I was impressed when I first got this scanner! My reason for that is that I didn't actually know what it was or how to work it, having seen one before.
It was 2nd May 2000 (back in the days of WIndows 98SE) when I decided to get my first ever internet going PC in my house, with it I got the Mustek 1200 UB Plus scanner. Borrowed the PC repair man from the local IT shop who came round and set it all up for me and showed me how to use it all. (All went well and we married this year, I know it's off topic but sorry).
Anyhow, so I have this scanner. Great! Soon I was borrowing photo's from all my family to scan and have copies of them backed up onto floppy disc's. (Sigh... they were the days! Now using CD's and DVD's - great for family get togethers).
5 and a half years later the scanner is still going strong...
