...For the Summer I purchased a second hand MX5 1.8 Sports. It was 4 years old and had the matching hard top as well as the permanently fitted cloth soft top. I had done my home work and this was the one that every review was recommending. It is one of the limited edition Sports and as such comes with leather heated seats. First things first, off came the hard top and into storage until winter. The hard top was very simple to remove and the soft top just flips up and down. However neither my wife or I can pull the soft top up when sitting in the seats. One of us has to get out. Both the hard top and soft top have a heated rear window which is essential and in a two seater cabin. The fold up rear wind deflector is not that good so long hair still gets blown forward. Review of Mazda MX-5 1.8i

Psion 5mx - excellent design.

Advantages: a good package, good design
Disadvantages: slightly too big

...I own a series 5mx and I find it ideal for everyday use. With practice I can touchtype on the keyboard even though it is tiny and I have huge fingers. The keyboard folds out to give a much bigger area than first seems practical. With the pointer-stick it is easy to control the interface and select text. Personally, I find the battery life OK and, with an memory pack added, it is more powerful than the desktop I had two years ago. I have used the web software and found it excellent, the modem seems a bit flaky to me. I haven't tried running Java on it yet - watch this space - but I have watched AVIs. A great mobile, possibly a bit big. Update: mine has just died because it can no longer see its C drive (ie its main memory) and I cannot restore the backup because no software will load. I think its about 15 months old....

Mazda's MX5: The worlds best selling sports car

Advantages: fun, stylish, easy to drive, convertible
Disadvantages: fuel consumption around town, road noise on the motorway

...This review will concentrate on the 1.6 litre cars available in the UK from 1989 to 1993 I Bought my MX5 in the winter of 2006. I picked up an early 1991 model with the 1.6 litre engine and 67,000 miles on the clock. The car was faultless without an ounce of rust on the body and had a full service history with Mazda and had been cared for by the Lotus garage that had taken the car in as a part exchange. The car did require the big service at 60,000 miles (includes the cam belt change) which was carried out by MKG3000 Mazda of Twickenham for the reasonable cost of £390. Around town the car deals with bumps very well with only large pot holes sending a shimmy through the chassis. Road noise around town is also very acceptable and its light direct steering makes it easy to park. Around town you'll achieve around 24-26mpg...

...Having been given this car as a gift I was somewhat apprehensive fearing it's lack of practicality - I need not have worried, sure the boot is tiny and the rear window has no heater but once in the driving seat such worries are forgotten. The handaling and ride suit its sporting image and are superb as is the short gearchange. The roof is off in seconds and a powerful heater extend the topless driving year. Luggae can be stored in the ample glovebox with soft bags on the rear shelf or behind the seats dependant on the size of the passengers. Although no family car or mpv the mx-5 is the best drive I have ever experienced - try it next spring....

Psion 5mx Your Mobile Best Friend

Advantages: Functionality / Keyboard / battery life / mobile connectivity

...SUMMARY Easy to love - intuitive to use - a bit more expensive than I'd like - couldn't live without it! HOW I CHOSE THE 5mx I first bought a Psion PDA when the Series 3 came out. I liked the functionality but not the appalling unreliability, so after about a year I went for a Hewlett Packard HP95 which I carried five days a week for six years without a single fault. Then the Psion Series 5 was released and I found it's combination of Diary / Address Book / Word Processor / Spreadsheets / Memo recorder (plus the best PDA keyboard I'd ever tried) totally irresistible. It had 8mb of RAM, and a reasonably clear screen. I had two years good use out of it - and when it "died" completely just after the 5mx was launched I had to go straight out and buy one. Psion 5mx One of a Kind

Advantages: PC compatibility, QWERTY keyboard, prolific applications, long battery life
Disadvantages: Inferior screen visibility, not as robust as previous models (though still a good contender against today's models)

...make full use of the machine's power. The downside of the machine includes its inferior screen which is not colour and suffers from reflections. The reason for this is that Psion worked hard to save on battery power, and this it does admirably. I use two AA batteries and they last many, many days, and I use the organiser quite a good deal throughout almost every day. There is also no picture capability with the machine, a feature more popular with the latest machines. There is an interface to the PC, but I choose to employ a USB reader and copy the files directly. This is much faster than Psion's native PsiWin. If you want a serious business machine, with no colour or picture capabilities, and with good PC compatibility, then you may still obtain a second-hand Psion 5mx and I'm sure you'll make very good use of it. Psion 5

Advantages: Battery-Life, Excellent Keyboard, Fast & simple software.
Disadvantages: Dimly lit screen, Size & Weight, Covering

...The Psion 5 is getting a little long in the tooth now, but you'll find second hand versions croping up all over the place on auction sites. This is how I came by mine. Detractors my point at the bulkiness on the Psion 5, or it's lack of features such as colour screens, high-resolution, decent sound, etc. But really, they're missing the point. The Psion 5 is a reliable and more importantly USEABLE work-horse. The keyboard really is fantastic and the batteries last forever. The main utilities, such as the word processor, spreadsheet and database are simple, easy to use and fast. The build quality is excellent, though I have heard about troubles with the screens breaking. One word of warning though, the series 5 (as opposed to the 5mx) has a rubber coating that is rather prone to peeling off. This doesn't affect it's functionality...

...Psion has in its Series 5 of palmtops an excellent range of products. There are basically three different types of Psion Series 5 palmtops (when you exclude the simpler REVOs), the original granite black coloured model, the special edition metallic green one and the more recent 5MX. There are very few differences other than aesthetical from the black to the green model; they share the same hardware specifications although the attractive green special edition did come with a brown leather case included. The 5MX comes with 16Mb as opposed to the 8Mb in-built EPROM memory the original models are equipped with. Psion palmtops are excellent tools for the busy businessman and entrepreneur or for students who cannot afford a computer.
