Raw Power

Advantages: Rock, Roll and Revel in Cat Power's stunning vocals
Disadvantages: The last track is oh so poorly recorded

...Cat Power, or more correctly: Chan Mashall, harkens from Atlanta Georgia and it doesn?t take more than the very first moments of Myra Lee to recognise that she could come from no where else other than one of the southern states of the USofA. The album sounds pretty lo-fi, not tinny or flat but it appears that it was recorded almost entirely in a rehearsal space in New York. No fancy recording studio. The effect works to the benefit of the listener. The opening track, Enough, slowly builds in volume and you feel like you could easily be in some subterranean venue, listening to some late night rock and roll. Because just who is Cat Power and what is her music? Only within the last few weeks have I discovered Cat Power and I now have three of her albums. All good. Myra Lee is my favourite. It?s raw. A career in SALT?

Advantages: Excellent book with lots of relevent information
Disadvantages: None!

Learning to love and to be loved in return

Advantages: Beautiful characterisation
Disadvantages: I didn't want it to end

An enthralling read

Advantages: Brilliant styles of writing, turns around old legends and fables, witty, clever
Disadvantages: A little pro-feminist and anti-male, but still enjoyable for both sexes

...What an excellent poetry book - I studied this for part of my A-Level English Literature course and I think it to be honest, charasmatic, exciting and, above all, extremely clever and witty. Mrs Darwin pokes fun at her husband for his "intelligence" on "discovering" the theory of evolution, Mrs Midas pines for her selfish husband who wished for everything to turn into gold, and we discover a perhaps sympathetic view to the most hated woman in England - Myra Hindley. With such a controversial list of characters', this book was bound to be interesting, and it surpassed (for me) all of my expectations. I expected it to be another boring poetry book - but it's so lively and witty that I couldn't put it down. The poems in this book are also very meaningful - not just are they witty and intelligently written, but some of the poems...

...Evil under the Sun is the film adaptation of the 1941 Agatha Christie murder mystery. Cast Sir Peter Ustinov as Mr Hercule Poirot - 4/5 After his outstanding portrayal of the finicky Belgian detective in Death on the Nile Ustinov's performance here is a bit disappointing. Although his acting is strong, energetic and certainly entertaining, his interpretation of the grouchy, imperious detective lacks exactly that - he is just too kind and affable. Jane Birkin as Christine Redfern - 5/5 James Mason as Odell Gardener - 4/5 James Mason delivers a very good performance, but as his role is rather limited and definitely falls short of his talent, he doesn't manage to stand out like Sylvia Miles does who delivers one of the most hilarious performances in the whole film - her portrayal of the shrill-voiced Myra...

Advantages: Lovely nostalgic novel for children and adults, gentle pace, encouraging ending
Disadvantages: A little idealistic, slight caricatures in some of the characters

...The Forum family used to live in a rambling old house called Apple Bough, and the four children still remember it with nostalgia. Myra, the oldest, is twelve when this story starts: a sensible, motherly child who adores her younger siblings and worries about the future. She deeply misses her dog Wag, who had to be left in England with a friend when the family started touring the world. The reason for the touring is that Sebastian, next in age to Myra, is a child prodigy violinist. Noel Streatfeild's books usually feature brilliantly gifted children, and 'Apple Bough' is no exception. ...by the Director Garry Marshall, there are 8 to choose from but I found that it takes quite a while between the end of each scene (and his comments on why each deleted scene was originally chosen to be included and later deleted from the film) before returning to the menu with only a black screen to look at while you wait. · Audio commentaries ? you can choose to have the Director commentate whilst you watch the film. I tried it for the benefit of this review and I found that I had to switch it off as it was both irritating and unnecessary. · Myra Music video ?Miracles Happen? introduced by Heather Matarazzo with great footage from the film.
