I'm a right naan ...
Advantages: Tasty, light and aromatic
Disadvantages: High calorie content!
...For some strange reason today just seems to have disappeared in a flash and by the time I got to Sainsbury to do the weekly shop it was after 5pm. I really didn?t relish the prospect of coming home, putting shopping away, then cooking for an hour before we could eat. I thought about a takeaway and decided it was too expensive, so decided to get a ?takeaway? from Sainsbury. Besides it?s easier as my favourite takeaway is Indian, but Andy?s a Chinese fan and buying from the supermarket means you can mix and match the strangest of combinations!
I ended up with chicken jalfrezi and pilau rice, but the part that I?m going to review here is the humble naan bread, which I acquired for the great price of 99p for two from Sainsbury, available from the chilled section.

Heavenly Indian Naan from Sharwood's
Advantages: Nice Texture Nice Taste Authentic
Disadvantages: Very Few
...Traditionally dipped in Raita-a very cooling,refreshing,yogurt/cucumber combo, Naan breads are a very versatile Indian flat bread.Indeed, they are the best known example of the various leavened flourbreads found in India and neighbouring Bangladesh and Pakistan.
They are served with most Indian dishes, especially those originating in the Punjab and Kashmir, and in the UK,most Balti houses will have Naan breads on the menu.
Many Naans are teardrop shaped and often include the likes of kalonghi seeds-black onion seeds- or fennel as an added seasoning. In its country of origin, Naan is usually cooked in a tandoor: a clay oven dug into the earth. The heat emanating from the ovenbase basically produces an open bubbled texture to the Naan, with deep toasting marks to the base of the bread.
Enough about the history of Naans, which I have to...

Not Sharwoods.....but Kaitlins!
Advantages: Encourages my daughter to eat what she has made.
Disadvantages: Not quite as good as the ready made ones.
...After many years of my daughter being a picky eater, she has suddenly started trying a few different foods, one of those foods is different types of bread.
Up until quite recently she had only ever eaten white bread at home, it wasn?t until my mum informed me that she ate milk bread and seeded batch loaf at her house, that I decided she try a few more!
The product I will now review is - ?Sharwoods naan bread mix?
As my daughter has always loved making food, even if she won?t eat it herself, as she ate a naan bread a while ago from the Indian takeaway, I was hoping these would be as appetising to her as the previous were.
I have never really seen these before, but as there was a big sticker to tell you they were on offer at Asda, it was then that they caught my eye.
The mix comes in a bag with the brand name emblazoned...

Bombay Taste Buds
Advantages: Always available, fills you up, easy to prepare.
Disadvantages: The calories!
...Oh dear I feel a food review coming on. This is not good for a compulsive yo yo dieter but as long as I do not eat the whole of the Naan range, I think I?ll be alright for my weekly weigh in tomorrow.
I do make chapatti?s when ever I make curry, but if I cannot be asked to have the flour and the smoke, I opt for the cheats way out and use Tesco?s Naan bread?s.
Here are a few questions and answers to help you decide if you want to purchase Tesco?s own bread.
HOW MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAD ARE THERE?
There are five that I know about personally. If there are anymore then I have not seen them in my local store and as these are the only one?s I have tried, I cannot comment any further ? sorry.
WHAT IS NAAN BREAD?
Naan is an Indian bread used as a meal accompinment. As the majority of Indian food is sauced based, this is...

Bread With A Bite
Advantages: Unique taste, absolutely delicious
Disadvantages: Only available in Tesco
...Every now and then, I like to treat myself to some of the freshly baked bread from my local Tesco's bakery. One of my favorite types is Tiger Bread.
Why Is It Called Tiger Bread?
This bread is referred to as Tiger bread because of the pattern which develops across the top of the bread during the baking process. This is achieved by spreading rice paste and sesame oil on the top of the bread before it is baked. Then, while the bread is baking, the paste dries and cracks which creates stripes across the top of the bread, similar in look and colour to the stripes of a Tiger, hence the name Tiger Bread.
Packaging
Tiger bread comes pre-packed in a transparent plastic-type wrapping, with a label giving a description of the item and the weight. The packaging is very thin and quite flimsy so often it can break as the crusty bread...

Golden Damper Bread.
Advantages: Really easy, really quick and delicious too.
Disadvantages: None I can think of.
...Golden Damper Bread
This is a recipe given to me by my fiancé's Mum. Her sister in-law gave to her; so thank you to both of them.
Damper bread is an easy to make but really delicious Australian, un-yeasted bread.
It is really good with stews, soups and pasta or salads.
NB. The ingredients in this recipe are measured in cups. It does not matter what size the cup is as long as you use the same cup for the whole recipe.
Ingredients:
2 cups of self raising flour
1 cup of medium cheddar cheese
I cup of milk
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Equipment Needed:
A large bowl
A wooden spoon
A baking tray
Method:
Pre-Heat the oven to gas mark 6/210ºC.
Mix together the flour, cheese and cayenne pepper. Add the milk and mix really well.
Sprinkle and extra handful of cheese over the top.
Place on a greased baking tray...

Tesco Breaded Onion Rings
Advantages: Taste pretty good, good value for money
Disadvantages: Quite unhealthy
...One of my favourite tea-time meals has to be steak and chips with mushrooms, onion rings and peas on the side! Mmmm lovely! Its a meal we enjoy regularly at home and I always buy Tescos own branded Breaded Onion Rings to accompany my steak and chips.
~The Product~
Each Onion ring is around 2.5" in diameter with a hollow centre. It is basically a circular ring of onion which has been coated in breadcrumbs, then lightly fried. I am not a huge onion fan in general but I like these as you get a nice taste of the onion, but without it being too strong or overpowering. The breadcrumbs give a nice crunchy exterior to the onion ring when cooked properly and the two textures of the soft onion inside the crunchy coating really compliment each other well.
There are two ways in which these onion rings can be cooked. You can either oven...

Weetabix Bread
Advantages: very easy to make, very tasty
Disadvantages: moreish and it is eaten very quickly
...This is a great favourite of mine, it's like a tea bread. I haven't got a clue where the original recipe came from but I found it in a handwritten book of my Nan's. It may not sound very appetizing but believe me it is really tasty.
It is especially nice with butter on with a nice cup of tea. The only down side is once you have had one slice you want another and another. It's fairly easy to make but does take some mixing as the mix is quite stiff. I always make a double mixture as it doesn't stay around for long in this house.
Ingredients:
3 Weetabix
6 oz Dried Fruit
8 oz Soft Brown Sugar
½ Pint of Milk
1 Egg
7 oz Self Raising Flour
1) Put the crumbled Weetabix, sugar and fruit in a large bowl; add the milk and leave to stand overnight.
2) Add the egg and flour mix well and pour into a well greased bread tin.
3) Bake...

Asda Tiger bread yummmmm
Advantages: Freshly cooked in store
Disadvantages: Goes stale quite quickly
...Asda's Tiger Bread is absolutly delicious. It's freshly made in store and at 67p for a 400g loaf and £1 for an 800g loaf the price is perfect. You can also get these loaves sliced in store free and they do the medium and thick slices.
I would definatly recommend you get it sliced in store because this bread is so fresh it just squashes when you try cutting it yourself at home.
It's got a lovley taste to it, im not sure whatt it is but it tastes totally different to normal bread. The outide of the loaf is quite crusty and looks a bit like tiger print hence the name then I suppose..... Then inside the crust you have the most delicious soft white bread.
It's great for sandwiches and holds together pretty well. It's also nice as a side to soups and it makes lovely toast, the butter just melts in making it utterly divine.
I...
