...fantastic. With full DSTV and all channels it comes with plenty to entertain you. Coming with complimentary water and all the others you expect of a 5 star hotel it certainly lives up to expectations. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is fully equipped with everything you will need for your stay. The best bit however is the perfect view across the park in central Nairobi from the french windows. The hotel caters for every need and the cuisine is just as good. simply go down to the ground floor (for which there is a gentleman on every floor who will call the lift for you as you leave your room) and choose from one of the 5 restaurants there. I would recommend the buffet restaurant, where lunch consists of a huge range of salads ( you can even have your own made up) and a selections of soups, rices, meats and of course a brilliant...

Nairobi the gateway to the Safari

Advantages: Convenient starting point to Kenyan and Tanzanian safaris
Disadvantages: Area rather dangerous if out alone

...First contact.... This was the first stopping point that my husband and I stayed on our honeymoon to Kenya and Tazania in July 2004. My husband's parents had very kindly booked and paid for our honeymoon as a wedding present. However, it is possible to make reservations for this hotel through expedia online, calling direct and by booking a "Serena Safari" where you stay in the 4 star Serena lodges and hotels which are dotted around Kenya and Tanzania. Getting there............... It took about 45 minutes by taxi to get to the hotel from Nairobi's International airport - mainly due to the traffic rather than the distance (18kms). My main observation on this journey was the very bizarre sight of giraffes on the open spaces beyond the roads! First Impressions....... The impressive hotel is set well off the road in lush green...

Niarobi - Open your Eyes !

...Central Nairobi, the Yaya centre, a shopping mall that would be suited to any modern city in the world, but is this really Kenya? Nairobi is an interesting city, colourful, inviting, busy, relaxing, all at once. From street traders to guys who wash your windscreen at the lights, people everywhere are on the make, and doing it well. The night life is good, and excellent restaurants can be found at every street corner. A great place for shopping is the Yaya centre, it has everything under one roof! A place I wouldnt give a miss though is the shanty towns..... Thats right, the shanty towns. If you turn off the streets, you will find the real Niarobi, a city made of people eating refuse and living in slef made homes, made of plastic and cardboard. A great upper-mid range hotel

Advantages: good facilities, lovely grounds, excellent staff, very secure

...I stayed here for two nights in April 2005, while on a stop-over to visit some friends. As a member of the Holiday Inn club, I have been completely sucked in by points collecting, and always stay in a HI if there's one in town. So I feel I know the chain pretty well, and I also know how much they can vary in standard, not just between countries, but even within towns. The Nairobi Holiday Inn was very different to most. It was converted from an old colonial hotel called the Mayfair Court, and has retained much of that old time character. It is a large hotel, with about 170 rooms, but there is a very personal atmosphere, and the staff are exceptional. Even though I was only there for a short stay, I was greeted by name every time I went to the reception, and even the gardeners and security guards never failed to say jambo in passing...

...Not quite in the city but read on as I take you on a virtual tour of the Capital City of Kenya... Nairobi is a huge city - I know this to be true having walked backwards and forwards across it on various errands relating to work and it is fairly easy to find your way around. Served by two airports: Jomo Kenyatta International (about 20 mins. drive away and a taxi will set you back about £25.00) and the much smaller Wilson airport just outside town which serves internal destinations such as Mombassa and the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The city itself is bustling with activity during the week and is extraordinarily quiet on Sundays and during public holidays as most of the population of the city leave to visit relatives ?up country?. **THINGS TO DO AND TRANSPORT ISSUES!** TAXIS. The Joyous Jacaranda

But I wanted to be friendly and I give all a answer. Now I had to look for the counter – service from Kenya Airways. But suddenly come one man from nowhere. He ask me, if he can help me. I was big surprised and I speak Yes to him. Now he explain everything and he show me the Check – In for Kenya Airways. On the entrance stand one Security – Man and he looked me. He start to smile because he see how much I sweat. Well, for this weather I had not the correct Clothes. He told me, I can go toilette and change my clothes. I made it and I felt me better. When I come out from the toilette this man see me again and he had to laugh at me...

A good airline in Africa!

Advantages: Good food, friendly crew, comfy business class

...on a stand away from the terminal but the bus was waiting to take everyone in. As we left the crew gave a warm, cheery goodbye and see you again. SUMMARY Overall it is reassuring to be on an airline where the standards are monitored by BA. Where Regional Air excel onboard, particularly the crew and catering. They do need to complete the refurbishment of the aircraft and they need to not only put in the new seats but also update the signs and, especially, sort out the cleaning. The other area they need to get their act together is a the airport in Nairobi. However, overall it does raise the bar for flying in Africa and I would bet that six months from now they will have fixed a lot that needs fixing. We'll see....

...My initial experience of staying at the Holiday Inn in Nairobi came on the wings of a panic. I was travelling with my boss, and I had made the BIG MISTAKE of booking us into a convenient, small, and very cheap mission guest house where I frequently stay. It didn't take me too long to figure out that the boss was tired--after two weeks of travel in Africa--and, something really nice better be at the end of this day. So, I quickly slipped out of the meeting and took up the less than helpful Nairobi phone book to look for something better. My eyes fell on "Holiday Inn" and I knew I had found the answer. Location: The Holiday Inn (known locally as The Mayfair) is conveniently located in the Westlands area of Nairobi. It is not very far from the Westlands Shopping Mall and the Sarit Center ... both of which are very nice...

Great experience Kenya- Mombasa and Nairobi!!!!

Advantages: Great People, Great Nightlife, Great Experience!
Disadvantages: Too many things to see, short time..!!

...Kenya has a lot to offer. Nairobi is the Capital city and Mombasa being the second largest town. There are very things one can experience in both cities. In Nairobi, there are a lot of entertainment spots. For example, The Carnivore bar and restaurant, (where you can taste game meat plus nightlife)or the Casablanca.. (Really nice)?or you can head off to Westland?s area where there are many clubs and it?s only five minute drive to the city centre. There are many good hotels too e.g. the holiday inn, Hilton, Panafric, Grand Regency, The intercontinental. You can get pocket friendly hotels; all you have to do is shop around. Alternatively, if you intend to stay longer you can rent a furnished apartment in areas such as Hurlingham or Westland?s. You?ll pay far much less than staying in a hotel.
